Twilight Movie Review ~ Week #41

Dec 3rd, 2008 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Podcasts

This week Kassie and I tell you everything we thought about the movie!  We loved reading your answers this week, and reading into them!  LOL!  We do not always agree about things, but in this episode I was even surprised at how our thoughts seemed more parallel than perpendicular!  This week’s music is Like the Way to Move by Kingsfoil.

Note: Due to the new way we are uploading the podcast, you can listen on iTunes, or HERE!

  2. Amber says:

Great podcast, gals. 🙂 i know I was hoping you’d include my answer, but it didn’t make it. Haha. Oh well. ;p

Apparently, the reason why Kellan Lutz was eating was because he couldn’t. stop. Lol.They tried to angle away from him and make it less conspicuous, but it so didn’t work.

I was a little indifferent about the spider monkey line, but I LOVED when Rosalie (Love Nikki Reed.) said that Emmett was her ‘monkey man” Ahahaha. It was so cute.

  3. Jenn says:

    It’s there. Just checked,

  6. Lyncoln says:

Great podcast, ladies! 😀 I have to say I’ve been anxiously waiting for your opinions about the movie and I’m so glad ya’ll enjoyed it for the most part! I was really hoping you would! I agreed with almost everything that ya’ll talked about. Since ya’ll were wondering, I can only speak for myself, but I DID get excited when ya’ll read my name and response once time on the podcast! I was like, “Oh my gosh! Kallie and Kassie read my response and they loved my name!” haha I have it saved I believe. 🙂

Dude…Bill and Ted rock! I personally love Bogus Journey better than Excellent Adventure. And I was actually more of a Bill fan than a Ted fan. Not really sure why cuz I adore Keanu Reeves! Alex Winter (Bill) seems to have disappeared…

So excited about the upcoming podcasts and Q’s of the week!

  7. Eva says:

  8. Karla says:

Hopefully when they make new moon they will hear the complains from the fans and fix things and make it better. Other then that great podcast. I love you ladies!!

  9. Wray says:

    Hey Guys!

I have been listening to your podcasts since the beginning and wanted to say that I appreciate what you do and love all the news updates and other tidbits. I always turn to you first for anything Twilight because you are usually so responsive to the fans and very professional in your approach.

That’s why I have to say I was pretty disappointed with your movie review podcast. After months of discussing the movie, having cast and crew interviews, doing Twilight Live, being at the Premier, etc., I was expecting a more in depth analysis. After the first ten minutes of general overview, the rest of the podcast was essentially spent grousing about minor details that either you guys or the listeners didn’t like. Many of the e-mails had positive things to say, but the negative things were discussed far more frequently and in much more detail. This made it seem ridiculous that in the end most people said they liked the movie. If you spend 25+ minutes out of 45 talking about all the things you didn’t like about something, how is it believable to end with a positive total?

Here’s what I wanted to hear about:

Did you think it was a good book to movie adaptation? Why or why not?

Was the relationship between Bella and Edward believable? Why/why not? Examples.

The actors – especially the main characters. Were they believable? Did they deliver their lines convincingly?

Where did the movie work? Where did it not work? Details (here’s where the special effects, camera work, direction, make up, etc. could be discussed).

    Ideas for improvements?

This podcast made me miss the early days of discussing book references (like Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights) in the Twilight trilogy. Those in depth discussions were the reason I loved listening to you!

Also, I could be wrong, but did I really hear Kassie say about the vampire running scenes, “it was a little gay for me” (at around 31:59). I wouldn’t have said anything if you guys were teenagers – and if I’m wrong please tell me! – but really Kassie, aren’t you a teacher? Shame on you!

  10. Brooke says:

I’m listening to your podcast right now and I just heard you read a listener’s comment about Emmett eating food in the movie. I saw an interview on the set of the Hinder music video with Kellan on youtube a few weeks ago. In the interview, he said that he hadn’t seen the movie yet and that he was most excited to see if they kept any film of him eating – apparently he was eating in a lot of the cafeteria scenes without thinking because the food was in front of him. He said that they had to keep telling him to put the food down.

I just thought it was funny that it made the cut. I’ve seen the movie 3 times now and I hadn’t noticed it.

I love you guys! You’re the most fun to listen to out of all the twilight series podcasts out there… I might be a little biased since I’m from Dallas too, but I really enjoy listening to your thoughts on the books/movies/etc. Thanks for all your hard work!

  11. Tava says:

I’m so glad you guys didn’t love the movie. All these people saying they loved it was so confusing. I thought maybe they were seeing a different movie. Love the podcast and I ‘liked’ the movie. More movie discussion though. That was such a short discussion!

  12. Angaleen says:

I loved both the the Spider Monkey and and Monkey Man comments. They were totally appropriate in both situations and made things more lovey dovey. The whole movie was good I loved it.

  13. Will says:

Hi great podcast. I just saw the movie earlyer today with my best friend how hasn’t read the books, and we both loved it, I even want to re-read the books now. the only scean that I thout they should have added was the whole Culens past with the the fathers father being a prist, and more sceaqns with Jacob. Can’t wait for New Moon movie!
I also have to say that most the people going to see it are girls, well I’m a guy and have read all the books and love them. I also worked in a libray and saw first hand that even in my small school how populer the book were, we couldn’t keep them in stoke.

  14. LizzieTish says:

I totaly agree! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the books. Liked the movie. The actors did a great job, but the screenplay obviously lacked. The love story was totaly not there. I realize they tried to speed over the conversations and falling in love by just showing them talking while they played the music from the soundtrack. They could have cut out some pretty unnecesarry screens- like Charlie telling Bella that Phil seems nice and Rene saeems happy- all the diner sceens and the sceens where James’ coven attacks the worker and Charlies friend. That was not needed for the story. There should have been more of a love story. More of Bella and Edward connecting and falling in love. They needed to show the romance, because when Edward leaves in New Moon, who’s gonna believe Bella falls apart over him. The foundation needs to be laid. Carlisle and Esme-and all of the Cullens need more time on screen. It would have been nice to shoe Alice getting Bella ready for prom. And my personal big shock was I LOVED Rachelle Lefevre as Victoria and Billy Burke as Charlie!!!! Maybe for New Moon they’ll give us more of the romance.

  15. dallas says:

  16. Haley says:

  22. Mrs. Everarianas Edward Cullen says:

hey did you guys know that it was Rob who came up with the “Spider Monkey” line? Catherine said in a interview that they were improvising and Rob came up with that line lol! i thought the line was cute in the behind the scenes, but i didnt like it in the movie. and i hated the “Monkey Man” line even more! so stupid!

  23. Twilight Geek Sam says:

hey love the podcast the author that is in all of his films like kassie was saying is stephin king. and about the thing where emmett was eating this is from stephines website: Funny story: on April first, I got to watch as they shot Bella’s first scene in the hospital (after the above mentioned van careened into her) with Charlie (Billy Burke) and Carlisle (Peter Facinelli). Between takes, Peter came back to the monitors where I was hanging out with Nikki Reed (Rosalie), and producers Greg Mooradian and Gillian Bohrer. Nikki and I were talking about how Kellan Lutz (Emmett) kept eating during the Cullen’s cafeteria scenes (Kellan is always hungry) and how the editors would have to cut around that. Greg asked the question many of you have asked: what happens to food eaten by a vampire? (He referenced the infamous bite of pizza Edward takes in the book.) I explained the icky truth—they eventually have to cough it back up. Peter was listening to all of this very quietly, and then he and I had the following conversation (I’m paraphrasing, because I don’t have a vampire’s perfect recall):

PETER: So vampires would never eat food, unless they are trying to fool humans? They would never eat at home?

    ME: No, of course not.

    PETER: Huh.

    ME: Why do you ask?

PETER: Well…when we were filming one of the scenes in the Cullen house, Esme brought me a bowl of Raisin Bran. I was eating it through the whole scene. I don’t think they could cut around it, because I was chewing through some of my lines… I guess that wouldn’t make a ton of sense for Carlisle to do, though, would it?

ME: (slightly panicky) Er, no. It really wouldn’t.

    PETER: Oh, well.

    ME:

    PETER: And also, April Fool’s.

(The part I can’t convey here is how convincing he was. Peter is, after all, an excellent actor. He got Kristen/Bella at dinner, too, so I wasn’t the only one.)

  24. Ok, I thought the movie was Crap. I am sorry, but I dont think any of it was done right.
Ok, thats not fair, I thought that the Baseball scene was good, the Kitchen Scene was funny and the Ballet Studio/fight scene was very…………….. dramatic.

But, overall, I didn’t really like it. Part of the reason is that the whole Twilight thing isn’t something that can be recreated in film. It is such an amazing book and I didn’t think it was worth the risk of making it into a film.

I will just add that I LOVE this podcast, you guys are always so happy and energetic and I love listening to peaple rave about Twilight in general.

  25. i liked the movie over the book. Can’t wait october 20th is New Moon!

  26. Expected better movie, hope third will be better!
