‘Twilight’ Stars See Red: Pattinson, Stewart Want Hardwicke to Direct Sequel, too

Dec 9th, 2008 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Movie News

The Chicago Sun-Times has an article on Rob and Kristen’s reaction to Catherine not directing the sequels.

‘They are both very upset,” a good Hollywood source told me Monday. ”They are committed to doing at least the next ‘Twilight’ film — and probably the one after that — but they really wanted to do them with Catherine.”

“Stewart in particular, is furious about it, reportedly telling a close associate, ”I sure hope they don’t f— it up,” referring to the “New Moon” movie.”

They kind of did that already with Twilight. But I hope they don’t make it with as many problems that Twilight had.

  2. Aliceknows says:

It seems horrible that the Summit has changed so quickly from a thoughtful indie production company to a greedy thug. I really hope that in order to keep the cash coming in the sacrifice the quality of the future movies. Personally, I’d rather a thought out, planned, and classy film than an Edward and Bella chick-flick.

  3. Aliceknows says:

Sorry I meant, in order to keep the cash coming in they don’t sacrifice they quality of…

I guess anger clouded my typing skills 🙂

  4. jennn says:

I totally agree, and I’m glad Kristen actually said something about it.

  5. Lyncoln says:

Amen, Kristen!! *claps* I knew Rob and Kristen would be very upset. They better not screw this up…those money-grubbing airheads!

  6. ... says:

    kristen had a tantrum…
    ;D

  7. Alice says:

Yeah, kind of like WB messed up the fifth HP by changing screen writers. It was just hacked up, unlike the previous films that stayed fairly close to the books. I just hope they have a clue as to what they are doing.

I’m not surprised they’re upset. I’m glad they said something. I’m really disappointed in seeing Catherine go. She really “gets” the teenager sensibility that’s needed for the movies.

  9. Bagels says:

i personally (and thousands of other twilight fans i’m sure) would rather have a well made come out later instead of a bad movie coming out sooner, but i will admit that the purpose of movie companies is to make money. however, i think that ppl would be more grateful if they put themselves in the fan’s (the main ppl GOING to the movie) position.

  10. Ashley says:

THANK U ROB AND KRISTEN!!! *CLAPS AND SCREAMS* I WAS DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE I REALLY DON’T WANT WHAT HAPPENED 2 THE HARRY POTTER SERIES 2 HAPPENED 2 TWILIGHT! THE CHANGING OF WRITERS AND DIRECTORS IS SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS! I ♥ CATHERINE HARDWICKE AND I’M REALLY UPSET THAT SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT DIDN’T SEE WHAT CATHERINE WANTED 2 DO WITH THE SERIES. SHE ACTUALLY WANTED MORE TIME WITH NEW MOON BECAUSE SHE WANTED 2 GET IT RIGHT! IF SHE DOESN’T DIRECT NEW MOON, SHE CAN ALWAYS DIRECT ECLIPSE!!! AND AGAIN THANKS A BILLION 2 ROB AND KRISTEN 4 ACTUALLY CARING ABOUT THIS SITUATION! *HUGS AND KISSES* 2 U GUYS AND CATHERINE!

  11. Shteff! says:

I can understand that they’d be bummed over such things after working so close to her. But if it’s happening it’s hapening….
    *votes for tim burton*

  12. Tara K. says:

Yay Kristen!!! All I have to say (again) is that the movie will seem different because a new director will be doing New Moon. It happened with Harry Potter, so that’s just what I think.

  13. Katie says:

Catherine already f—ed up Twilight. The random directional changes of the camera ruined the movie for me, and the pacing was terrible. Every reviewer, even ones with positive reviews, agreed that those were the things that kept the movie from being good, or at least passably tolerable. They should get a new director, that way they’d have a better movie and better reviews, and therefore, more profits. I’m glad they fired Hardwicke, because she really wasn’t all that great.

  14. Maddison says:

Get Kristen’s mum to do it, she’s directing K-11 with Kristen and Nikki… apparently they are playing men?

  15. Kelly says:

i agree with rob and kristen!
truth be told- i would rather the film come out middle of or late 2010 if that meant we could have catherine and the film would be BETTER!

any one agree with me? or did i just get booed out?

  16. Jasmine says:

I want Catherine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m sooooooo sad now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless the new director is better than I’ll be satisfied….

  17. CullenCrazy17 says:

Summit there is no need to rush…Harry Potter took like 2 years between each movie and the fans still remained loyal so just settle down and bring Catherine back!!!!! PLEASE? 🙁

  18. CullenCrazy17 says:

    PS i totally agree w/ comment #15
i can wait as long as i need to if it means we have Catherine!

  19. Robby says:

    wait so…I’m slow on this..

but ever since I found out that Catherine wasn’t going to direct I was happy but sad at the same time…there were things that she did I wasn’t happy about, but I still had faith in her to have done an excellent job in New Moon……I didn’t read much up on it, so I always thought she couldn’t direct it because of a personal reason..

….are you saying the reason Catherine isn’t directing is because Summit literally kicked her away?! Please tell me I’m reading this wrong..

If that is the case, then I’m pissed.

I always hate it when people starts getting all greedy and materialistic.

  20. Debi says:

I agree with # 13..the movie was choppy and I want to see more of Edward and Bella together

  21. steph says:

Well, I do not know what movie Kristen was watching but what irritated me with Twilight was the directing. They have a good cast, great scenery, decent(but could be better and less chessy) writing, but the directing really did not appeal to me. This was a good move. I think the majority of the fans want Catherine because of her personality, she seems like such a big fan and understands the passion. Well I am a big fan but that doesn’t make me suited to direct or do whatever in the movie. They needed a better director and one better suited for this type of movie. You want an indy feel- yes, but now they have a blockbuster in hands…you want to protray a small-indy movie but deliver what big-budget blockbusters have. They need a director who can handle the heat. So Catherine, get out of the kitchen.
Sorry I really felt like adding in a pun, hehe.

In other words- I am glad Hardwicke got the boot. But understand where everyone is coming for.

  22. Kimmy says:

I’m torn down the middle with this. In one aspect I agree with Katie (#13). The directional changes of the camera were hard to follow, as was the camera focus at times. Honestly though, I’d rather deal with erratic camera work than have to suffer through two hours of complete cheesiness. The one really good thing about Catherine was her attitude. You could clearly see how her positive energy rubbed off on the cast members. There was an obvious method to her madness – and it worked! Summit really should have thought twice before making this decision. New Moon may be released sooner… but at what cost? This series is definitely fueled by fans, and if New Moon is bad then all of this craze for money will have been for nothing.

  23. lauren says:

    that is so f**ked up!
summit entertainment need to realise the more time is better.. i mean HELLO! even the people starring in the movie dont want a new directer! its f**king bullshit!

    ugh! so pissed right now!

  25. Sanguina says:

I think Catherine directed the ‘human’ stuff brilliantly. That is her strength. I definitely think a better job could have been done with the ‘vampire’ stuff. If Catherine had stayed on to direct New Moon I would hope they had her direct all the personal interaction with Bella and Jacob and brought someone else in for Volterra.

I have faith that another director can do it well, especially if Stephenie is still involved. And from what I have read, she very much will be.

  26. lina says:

are the best thing the movie is more beautiful and more vacana who has seen! eduard is very handsome! I love you

  27. lina says:

please put more pictures of the vampire bruja more handsome PLIS

  28. Kourtnee B. says:

NewsFlash::: Twilight was already messed up!!!:: I feel that it was the screenwriter’s fault and how some of the cast did their acting. It seemed like the actors playing the humans did a better job and Taylor and Kellan were good compared to others
