This week we discuss the casting for New Moon!  Specifically we talk about who should be cast as those blood thirsty Italians, the Volturi.  I have to admit that the sleepy factor comes into play, but it only makes us that much more entertaining!  We also touch on some Supporters Speculations ~ Post Breaking Dawn!  Our music is Supermassive Black Hole by Muse, in honor of the Muse Contest!  Find out more details at TwilightSeriesTheories.com! its not on itunes yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Angel Marie says:

    Yes it is.

  3. Lindsay says:

in the podcast it was said antonio banderas wouldnt make a good vampire… however he has been a vampire in “interview with the vampire” playing Armand. Although im not sure he would be a good fit for the volturi, i believe he definitely can play an amazing dark vampire.

  4. grace says:

I think they should continue to use smaller/ lesser known actors. It allows them to grow and gain experience AND it would leave a lot more money to make sure that the wolves look awesome and not super cheesy. I mean look at some of our beloved actors in Twilight- they were relatively unknown until now. I know that so many people think that Dakota Fanning would be a great Jane, I agree to a point. It would just cost SO much to have her cast. I personally would rather they use that money for great special effects instead of actor’s salaries. Anyone else feel similar?

  5. Morgan says:

i kinda agree grace. I mean the current actors are (well were xD) kinda less known.

  6. TwiGirl says:

I partly agree with you, but we need expirenced actors/actress or else the movies not gonna be that amazing like we all want it to be. I 100% agree that we need the money to create the wolves.

  7. Brandi says:

I agree with you grace! Also to add to your point, I feel like a lesser known person could bring out the characters more. Whereas with someone well known it might be hard to look past who they are and see the character. Personally I feel that Dakota Fanning is a great actress but it is very hard for me to picture her as someone so malicious as Jane. — My Mom seconds that! And adds that with the main characters being played by lesser known actors, to place someone to mainstream as a ‘side’ character, would outshine the main characters. Plus you don’t want to lose the integrity of the current cast by getting an actor or actors whom may have more ‘diva’ like tendancies. IE has to have the dressing room a certain way ect. The cast we know and love are more real and down to earth (atleast seem to be) and could get lost with others who are more ‘celebrity’ then actor. Also the feel of it would be off, to us anyway. Stephanie started Twilight as an unknown, most of the cast thus far are fairly unknown. Why ‘fix’ what clearly isn’t broken.

  8. Wendy says:

It’s already been mentioned above, but Antonio Banderas has already played a vampire. He was Armand, the oldest living vampire, in “Interview with the Vampire”. While that movie was a while ago, I still think it would be a bad idea to have him be in another vampire movie where the rules of the vampire world are so different. Plus, when he tries to do an Italian accent, he still ends up sounding Spanish. 🙂

  9. Elliot says:

@Lindsay : Yeah, he played Armandand he did good, but it was an awful pick – if you read the books! Armand is supposed to be a slender young man, only roughly 17 years old, milky white skin, with big, doe-like eyes and long, curly/wavy hair in a rich reddish-brown. I’m sorry Antonio, but you were no-no…
I imagined Aro, Caio and Marcus more spidery, thin and wispy, from the outer appearance, but at the same time their faces and eyes must hold the knowledge and wisdom (Aro and wise? he reminds me a little of a demented old man…o.O)of centuries – while not being too old (so no Ian McKellen or Christopher Lee…) Unfotunately – no-one comes to mind…*sigh*
For Jane I’d like to have Abigail Breslin – Dakota Fanning is too old, too grown up. She has matured a lot and is, without a doubt, a dashing young woman, but she lacks that childlike, naive look now. And Jane is supposed to be a cute little girl, but creepy at the same time. I believe Abigail Breslin could pull that off.

  10. CullenCrazy17 says:

yeah lesser known actors would probably b good so they dont over power all the wonderful other actors (if thats even possible for some of them)
and w/ jane…she isnt really a young girl vampire tho…she is still older so abigail breslin (& dakota fanning for that matter) is too young i think, plus as mentioned about, she is becoming very famous so idk if that is a good idea hehe

  11. CullenCrazy17 says:

o and antonio i think would b a great vampire!!!

  12. Allie says:

I agree with Grace (comment #4) and I think that a $50 million dollar budget is a lot more. I figure, maybe have one of the evil three Volturi be a big name and bring in the fans from those actors, but stick to a smaller fan base.

I nominate Peyton Roi List as Jane, and her brother Spencer List as Alec. look up Peyton, she looks just how i pictured Jane. Also, I like Spencer because they are real siblings and look fairly alike, and he looks a little like how me and my friend portray Alec.

    Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Emotional Breakdowns?

  13. grace says:

I do like Peyton List and her twin Spencer, my only issue is that they are too young. They look to be about 10 or so (?) and I think Jane and Alec are supposed to be a bit older. If only they were like 16 or 17…

It’s cool to see that I’m not totally alone in my thoughts about the cast- yay!

Has anyone heard anything else about Ben Barnes? Any thoughts about him being Aro? I am kinda not sure. I think I would get used to it if he were cast, and he is definitely eye candy, but is he scary/ creepy enough like Aro is in the book?

  14. Cassandruhh says:

I think Dakota Fanning would be good , but Peyton and Spencer List are really young looking .
I kind of pictured Jane as an younger Hayden Panetierre .. or a young resse witherspoon .
but that would be SUPER expensive . I think Maggie Grace from “The Fog” might be a good Jane .
Or does she look a little old ?

  15. Cassandruhh says:

    SORRY ,
not maggie grace from the fog .
    you know , OOPS .
but i meant Emilie Di Raven from ” The Hills Have Eyes ”
I got them messed up .

  16. Cassandruhh Casey says:

    SORRY ,
not maggie grace from the fog .
    you know , OOPS .
but i meant Emilie Di Raven from ” The Hills Have Eyes ”

    :O

  17. Stacey says:

I think whoever mentioned Peyton and Spencer List is pretty much right on. I just read New Moon again yesterday and Aro says that they didn’t wait as long as they wanted to before changing Jane and Alec. In my mind, they are more like 12ish and have a “fairy”-like appearance while being menacing. The thing I couldn’t decipher was the ages of the 3, Aro, Caius, and Marcus. She just described them as floating in their movements and papery appearance.

  18. Jan says:

A lot of the suggestions for Jane seem to leaning toward casting a young girl. Jane would not have been super young. Remember they killed off any child who had been changed. She would have been at least a young adult, just petite, sort of a Volturi version of Alice.

  19. Sharie says:

I agree with you totally Jan. I never got the impression while reading the books that Jane was a little girl, just petite. She is described as being Alice’s size, slim, and androgynous, but too pretty for a boy. I pictured her in her low to mid teens. Her small size adds to the effect that she looks like a little girl, but as Jan notes she couldn’t have been too young or she would have been considered an immortal child. The same goes for Alec. And I’m all for using lesser known actors because of the small budget and I think it adds to the indie film appeal of the movies. Bigger actors come with a bigger price tag and more hype, not really pros in my book.

  20. Susie says:

For the 3 main Volturi I think that its important that they dont cast anyone too old looking. I know when I was reading the books for some reason I kept picturing older creepy, pasty white guys in my head….because thats their personality and because they have been around for thousands of years, living underground. But since they are vampires we know they will be beautiful and ageless. So as tempting as it might be to cast ugly for the volturi, I think it makes it that much more real to the story to cast beautiful people. I dont have any specific actors in mind. I am sure it will be some no-names though, which is good.

  21. Tate says:

I think that Dakota Fanning should play Jane. When I think of Jane that what see in my head. =]

  22. Sarah says:

ok, first of all im a bit confused on why they are choosing such young looking people. the volturi are supposed to be ancients right? so why are they chooseing 30 year old guys i mean the one person i pictured who could play Caius would be Jason Isaac’s because i think hed be really good at being bitter and mean

well whatever, i just hope it turns out good.

  23. Shteff! says:

    so….many…names mentioned…*eyes spin*

  24. I heard Ben Barnes might be Aro. I love him, but I think he is too young to be Aro. Maybe Demetri, who I assume to be younger then Aro. After I watched Sweeney Todd and saw how pale Johnny Depp was with the dark circles under is eyes (not to mention gorgeous) I thought he would be a perfect vampire. I realize that’s wishful thinking. As if they could get Johnny Depp in it. But either way, I love Ben to death, and the only thing stopping him from being Edward was his age. He is gorgeous and *way* better then RPattz. *sigh* Anyway, I would love for him to be in the movie, just not Aro. Now if only it was William Moseley… Will should have been Edward or Jasper. But I won’t complain about that.

Jacob PWNS!!! http://www.petitiononline.com/TLJacob/petition.html sign to keep Taylor as Jacob in New Moon!

  25. detective889 says:

one quick note about this cause i didn’t find the right actor but for Aro i think Ralph Fiennes should play Aro because he has that background in the dark evil but smooth cunning villain. so that just what i think, sorry its late.

  26. Edward+Bella=Renesmee says:

  27. Heather says:

I think Abigail Breslin would be a good Jane, she is depicted as young, childlike. I’m not really sure who could portray Alec though. I heard a crazy rumor that Johnny Depp might be cast as Aro, that would be really expensive, but I think he could do well. I can’t really think of anyone really good who could be cast as the Volturi that wouldn’t be an expensive part of the cast. I agree with everyone on the wolves. They need to really make that part believable. I am hoping that New Moon follows the book a little better than Twilight did, althought Twilight was really good, it just seemed like there were things missing. If they make Eclipse into a movie, they will have to do Breaking Dawn, simply because it is an end to the story.
I think they should keep Taylor for Jacob as well. If they change the cast, it will change the movie. Maybe Ben Barnes could be Casius (SP?), but he would portray Aro quite well too.

  28. Krista says:

I really hope that when casting the Volturi they keep up with the lesser known actors. I have little faith in Abigail Breslin or Dacota Fanning. I agree that they will bring there celebrity status with them and detract from the other actors and the movie. Besides I picture Jane being a 15 year old girl and I don’t think either actor can putt that off yet. Same goes for Aro, Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas are both beautiful men that can pull off creepy but Aro needs to be a young looking man who can portray Aro’s wisdom. Now I have no suggestions but then again Im not around lesser known actors.
And I agree with heather I really hope that they keep Taylor because He really captured Jacobs humer so well. And he is adorable.

  29. Lexie123220 says:

i think it would be cool to let stephenie choose the characters. i mean, after all, she created them and knows how they should act and what they look like…i think jamie bell(from jumper) should be casted as one of the volturi members..he would be perfect!! butt i do agree with a lot of other people….they should use unknown people to play the big characters and use the money to make the special effects so amazing! because i know a lot of people were dissappointed in the visuals in twilight….i being one of them….but they need to keep taylor as jacob! they need to keep the characters from the first one in the rest…it just wouldnt be the same….

  30. briony says:

hayden christensen should be one of them. he LOOKS like a vampire. maybe not Aro or Marcus or Caius, but he should definitely be one of them. and i agree with Lexie, Jamie Bell. And I don’t think Dakota Fanning is right, she doesn’t have that evil-yet-beatific spark about her…

  31. Bluewolf says:

    Hello,

Just listened to the episode, and I was surpirsed when the comment was made. “I can’t see Antonio Banderas as a vampire. Althought he was completely wrong for the character (Armand was a teenager with arburn hair), he did play Armand in Interview with a Vampire, and he was very good.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWUxsUxMZ0E
    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000104/

Casting should really stay with pretty much unknowns, the budget really can’t handle much more than Kristen and Rob. Taylor NEEDS to stay. I don’t hate anyone for saying he needs to go, but it saddens me. Very few of the actors actually fit the discription of their characters.

  32. Nikki says:

I’m sorry, but I have a quick message to those people who are using these discussions to “fangirl” over how much they “LOOOOOOVE” Twilight and the books. I agree that they are amazing and deserve praise, but NOT when when people are trying to get feedback on who should play who in the new movie.

    Ahem. Back to business.

I agree that Johnny Depp would make a good Aros, Caius, or Marcus. He has that darkness about him that is just intriguing. Hayden would be good to play Demetri.

But…I also agree that Stephenie should have a voice in the casting.

    ^_^

  33. bonnie says:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3193347328/nm0272706 ok that girl is soooo jane in my eyes, just perfect. creepy yet eerily pretty. I also kinda like Liam http://www.imdb.com/media/rm503290624/nm0014582 for alec. I think they look pretty similar.

  34. samuel says:

what about Jodelle Ferland for jane she played the little girl in silent hill she does creepy inocent extremely well and well jonny depp can play anything so i agree he should play one of caius marcus or aro …. but the guy who played viktor in underworld would make a great caius

  35. katherine says:

I seriously would love to see Jodelle Ferland as Jane and Hero Fiennes Trifin as Alec!

  36. matty matt says:

kay so just to get this straight jane and alec are not children, they are teens maybe 14- 16 age range, I mean why would they be described as “child looking” if in fact they were children???

  37. Pennie says:

For some reason I pictured Jane as being quite young, around 13 – 15 years old and I agree with Jodelle Ferland for that part! I think she would do a great job.. Dakota is one of my favorite actors, and I know she would be great as well, but she might be to expensive, yes. I don’t even dare hope for Johnny Depp as Aro, but that would be AWESOME(!) though he is a little old.. but who knows, he has done a lot of low budget and indie films before, so maybe;) So besides this, the rest should be more or less unknown acters.
