Carter Burwell Not Composing New Moon

Apr 16th, 2009 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Movie News

According to Carter Burwell’s website, he will not be composing music for the New Moon soundtrack.

As I understand it, the director of New Moon, Chris Weitz, has hired Alexandre Desplat to composer the music for the film. Desplat composed the music for Weitz’ earlier film The Golden Compass. I don’t know if they’ll use any of my themes from Twilight, such as “Bella’s Lullaby”.

    Awww. I liked his music!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Sophie Weavers says:

    OMG!
Surely they couldnt use Burtwell’s stuff due to copyright….so is a new improved lullaby on the cards??
I think there could be a much better, more classical lullaby than the “Twilight” version tbh…
    ..maybe a Rob Pattinson input??

    hmmm xxx

  3. Sophie Weavers says:

haha i oh dear my typing is rubbing at 1am (UK time)
    Burwell*****

  4. Sophie Weavers says:

    rubbish****…..just delete it all…..lol

  5. Diane says:

Rejoice and be glad, because his music wasn’t that great anyway. I’m a musician so I know what it takes to compose music, and I can tell that Carter did not put much thought into the score. Bella’s Lullaby was a flop.

  6. Cynthia says:

I liked Carter. The lullaby was definitely not my favorite piece of the score, but it was sufficient. I hope they change up the lullaby even though it would technically detract from the original.

I just couldn’t wrap my head around the fact Edward – who is a classically trained pianist, has had years of experience, and been exposed to so much in his long life – could write such a simplistic piano piece for the love of his life.

  7. Amy says:

DESPLAT IS AMAZING. Listen to the score he composed for “Girl With A Pearl Earring”!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eyxLkCjOzQ

  8. Nellie says:

I don’t think it would be a complete catastrophe if they didn’y use the version of Bella’s Lullaby from Twilight.. it was never really said that that’s what it was except when the soundtrack/score were released anyway. If I hadn’t bought them I probably wouldn’t have even known.

  9. Amanda says:

i think they might use bella’s lullaby for the reunion scene or something
but maybe it might be redone, like to fit the tone of this part of their relationship.
that would be cool, wouldn’t it? if the lullaby was redone every time for all the new things going on in their life?

  10. Joyce says:

I can imagine Edward writing some new music while he is moping about Bella in New Moon. Also there should be strong werewolf music. What else — Italian music. They don’t really have to reprise old themes. I do like Bella’s Lullaby and Bruwell’s story behind it which he explained on his web site but it may not fit in with new movie.

  11. ylena says:

i think bella’s lullaby can be fixed a little. because it says edward hums it in the books and i definetley couldnt hum carter burwell bella’s lullaby.

    peace+love+twilight
    xoxo,

  12. Michele Celine says:

Thats interesting… I wonder if the new composer will give a different feel to the whole movie? I hope so!

  13. Samantha LeAnne says:

I think that may be a good thing because, it is such a different movie and it does have such a different feel, but at the same time I love Burwell. He has done some amazing compositions and I absolutely love the score from Twilight (along with his work on Burn After Reading, Fargo, and No Country for Old Men).
Since we don’t get Burwell, I am extremely happy with the choice of Desplat. He is also amazing and did fantastic work on Bejamin Button, Girl With a Pearl Earring, A Painted Veil, and The Queen. So I believe they picked a good choice.

  14. Arabella says:

Desplat is REALLY good. Girl with a pearl earring soundtrack is AMAZING.
    xx

  15. Samie says:

i like this idea. i didint like the Twilight soundtrack or bellas lullaby so hopefully this will be much better 🙂

  16. Sarah says:

This is good news. Hopefully there will be no cheesey guitar solo-driven score in New Moon; and a significant upgrade to Bella’s Lullaby is definitely needed.

  17. IHEARTSETH says:

okay, dudes, ive read a few of the comments all over this site, and im appalled. You people have no idea where Edward was the whole time. a true twilight fan would know – and its from Stephenies webiste, so come on! – that Edward actually was curled in a ball in an old shack’s attic.. Thats it. Get over it. He wasnt composing music or agruing with Rosalie. He was pretty much dead. Literally. That also could be why Bella threw out all of her cds…

  18. hayley says:

omg im so happy they arent using him…his music was HORRIBLE! like that cheesy and weird guitar adding to classical. EHHH!

  19. catherine says:

OMG!! what will happen to Bella’s Lullaby?? I bet they’ll compose a new PROPER version, because in the movie they didn’t even say that was Bella’s Lullaby, it could have been Esme’s song for all we know! I hope it’s good if they do decide to write a new one because ,in all honesty, Carter Burwell’s version was not that great…..

  20. Maddie says:

You know im glad that we have all new people making the movie happen. Twilight couldve benn SOOOOOOO much better. Having new makeup artists and directors music people all that is good. I hope it will make New Moon better. (Since New Moon is one of my favs!)

  21. Ash Pash says:

They can sill can use his theme they did it for Pirates of the Caribbean. I hope they still use Bellas lullaby and it is the same

  22. AbbyCullen says:

I really liked Carter Burwell’s music… but maybe the new composer will make a new Bella’s Lullaby. The official one just isn’t what I’d thought it would be. I guess I’ll have to wait until November to find out about how much I like the new composer!

  23. Alisanne says:

🙁 times 1,000,000,000!! i really liked his music. Bella’s lullaby inspired me to play piano again.

  24. Jaimee says:

I loved Carter But it willl be good to hear some new stuff as most of the songs were very similar

  25. marisa says:

Aww….that sucks! I thought Carter did great on the “Twilight” score. Hopefully this other guy they got does a good job on the score. If not, I’m going to sue Chris for hiring that new composer.

  26. Shteff says:

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
    no! T_T
darn it, his music is immense! MOO!
    xox

  27. Robby says:

Interesting~ I’ve only heard of his music from The Golden Compass, to refresh my mind I went to look it up. You guys, I think we’re up for a treat…this guy is amazing!! I think part of the reason why I liked The Colden Compass (never read the book) was because of the music, music is so important in terms of creating the mood, atmosphere and conveying emotions~

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DS1qM12dg0

Please listen throughout the whole thing, you can just hear his versatility in the music, it’s simply amazing…I’m really excited you guys :D!

  28. Bea says:

i LOVE the music!! i dont hav the score but ive watched the movie soo many times so u listen 2 it. they HAVE 2 keep bellas lullaby!!!!!!!!! THEY HAVE 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love it!!

  29. Team Switzerland says:

No..!!! I love his music..!! But I guess It’ll be great anyway.. ( :

  30. Brad says:

this is completely wrong Shame on you

  31. Brad says:

through out movie history all sagas that have changed the composer, have flopped. ok ok some of the music was repetitive
but it was telling a story through music. I think this next film will rock but not impressed to hear this at all

  32. Mabs says:

aww but Carter Burwell is amazing! I loved the twilight score. I just listen to it over and over again and never ever get tired of it. :-/

  33. Jake says:

His music was so intense in Twilight!
Love the music : “I know what u are”
    At times, it’s soft…
And then it becomes violent and shakes ur mind…
He really did a great job…!!!
I prefer his music than the one in New Moon actually….But it’s only my point of view…

  34. Ryan says:

This really annoyed me. After watching all of the movies, there is no overall theme or atmosphere creates withe the score. Burwells score was the only uplifting detail in the first installment that gave it life. The new moon and eclipse scores are messy and draw no real emotive structure or musical arc . Very disappointed. When I hear his score I think of twilight, when I hear the others, I can’t part it from any other soundtrack library you’d by as royalty free tunes for backing track
