“Twilight-Just Shoot Me”

May 4th, 2009 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Movie News

It seems that director David Slade might be regretting a Twitter entry (now deleted) he made slamming Twilight.  Slash Film also has an audio clip of the director’s Twilight tirade here.  Not a great way to introduce yourself to Twilighters, huh?  Or do you think this was just a misunderstanding?

“…and so yesterday we were trying to find a movie to see and we’d seen all the good ones, you know, and there was nothing really coming out this weekend that we really fancied at all and having directed a vampire film and really gone for something completely different to the kind of romantic, you know, repressed hormone teen vampire movie we really weren’t interested in seeing Twilight but a lot of people said lets go so I wrote –

Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid? Twilight at gun point? Just shoot me.”

[That’s like] a poem in a way […] at this point excites me even though people think I’m a really violent and unpleasant person I actually do have this romantic violent side to me. Maybe I should have seen Twilight.”

OMG I don’t care what this idiot can do for the movie, I want someone who actually cares about the story, even if the movie turns out to be crap!

  2. Amanda G says:

Ugh! He’s gonna ruin Eclipse! You have to actually care about what your doing or it’s gonna be really crappy!

  3. Jo says:

That’s jokes! Maybe he’s not great for Eclipse, but that was sort of a good one. Anyways, I don’t think he knew anything about twilight when he made that comment, so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

i know everyone is gonna poop all over my comment but give the guy a break. he clearly isn’t the kind of guy just to do a movie for the sake of it. if he really hated it that much he wouldn’t do it and summit must trust him enough as they are paying him big bucks for it. they ain’t gonna pay someone that will ruin a potentially great movie and one of their biggest sources of income.

i know money talks and if you’re offered a ton of cash you’d probably do the job just for the pay but if summit were just looking for JUST anyone could have found any director that would have done it JUST for the paycheck and probably for cheaper.

agreed he must be regreting the comment now cause he deleted it but there must have been something that tempted him to sign onto the project….more than just a chance to upset a load of twifans; even though he isn’t the biggest fan at the moment he STILL wanned to do it. it might even be better that a non addict is directing because he can give it a fresh angle and perspective as a newbie to the fandom.

    i say wait and see.

  5. Sarah Ray Wolfe says:

    i completely agree with laura.
    just wait and see.
and besides, it’s very possible (and likely) that this was taken out of context. there may have been more to the story. give him the benefit of the doubt, and if he screws up the movie, THEN we can grab the pitchforks and torches, i’ll even lead. but until then, let up on the guy.

  6. Brandi says:

I agree with Laura!!! I too would have had the same feeling had I not read the books. As much as I love the movie, I would have never of seen it had it now been for the books. NM will be soo much better, and Eclipse, well we will have to wait and see. Everyone is intitled to change their mind, even David Slade. This just gos to show, that one shouldn’t judge a book (or movie) by its cover. Read/watch then give an opinion on it.

    PAAAYYYYYCHEEEECK!!!!

  8. Cedar says:

    I agree with Laura too!

  9. Michele Celine says:

    Gah! **Strangles him…**

  10. Lola says:

He doesn’t seam to really care at all! If he thinks TWILIGHT is awful or something like that then how the heck is he going to feel when he is actually FILMING one of the movies!!!!! GRRRRRRR!!!

  11. Chelsea says:

It seems as if he doesn’t realize the power of twilight fans! Twilight fans are the ones that help them making money and support these movies… By saying he hates twilight, fans are going to have a hard time supporting him. He needs to recognize the huge fan base that Twilight has and make sure he isn’t pissing off too many people

  12. TwilightGirl says:

I think a GIRL should direct Eclipse…. I don’t think that a man can capture a love story from a GIRL’S piont of veiw and still make it like how she (Bella) feels about Edward, and Jacob(grrrrrrr), as well as a woman could… So far I’m not liking Chris Weltz’s work on New Moon at ALL! there’s not one person of the new cast he’s hired that I like!! No, not even Alex Meraz, or any of the wolf pack. Wait, I take that back, I like Taylor…. kinda. he’s a awesome Jacob, but in interviews he seems so full of himself. If you REALLY like the new wolf pack, don’t kill me. I just do. not. like.boys. only edward, warren(from Fablehaven) Gavin, (also fron FableHaven), Peder, (Princess acadmey) yeah. If you haven’t noticed, all of these boys are from books. Not real, fictonal. 🙁

  13. Amy and Ralph says:

HAHA! POINTS FOR THIS GUY! I LOVE HIM NOW! THAT’S RIGHT, speak yo mind. Don’t let the hyperventilating hardcore fans get you down.

  14. Ash Pash says:

All I have to say is JERK!!!!!

  15. maddie says:

I have no idea what he just said LOL but I’m guessing it’s not good

  16. laura h says:

yay people agreed! glad i commented now!

  17. Michelle says:

I wonder why they didn’t bring back Catherine Hardwicke? She seemed to really bond with Stephenie and the cast, and obviously did a great job.

  18. alana says:

    ugggggggggg thats not funny!
i dont want him to direct anymore =(

  19. Jessikah says:

i agree with laura , give him a chance . But he does need to sort his comments out about twilight, it cant be that bad if he wanted to do it, but keep the comments to himself otherwise hes gonna have more than a few haters. He might also want to start being posotive about the project and then he might not toatly riun it .personally i like someone else to do it but i say we’ll have to see what he brings to the table and slate him after we know what we have (:

  20. Luna Eclipse says:

    um what?

  21. Tammie says:

If I was Summit Entertainment, I would instantly find a way to remove him from the movie. Whether he knew anything or not about the movie before he said those comments does not matter. There is too much money and time involved in the making of these movies to have someone that does not care. Stephanie Meyer even said that she loves how there are people who love these characters as much as she does. Why take any chances with her vision and dream. I say let him go and and find someone who feels as passionate about the story as the rest of us.

  22. Team Switzerland says:
