Real Men Read “Twilight”

In his latest article and podcast, NPR’s Brad Meltzer talks about why real men read Twilight!  It’s really pretty funny, and true!

“I love this story of the gawky, awkward girl who falls in love with the brooding vampire. And I love that she can’t get sexual with said vampire because when her blood gets pumping, it’ll send him into a frenzy and he’ll kill her. (How’s that for a prophylactic?)

I love hearing the dark secret histories of how the other vampires were turned into vampires. And I love when Edward gets all huffy with Jacob the werewolf — oh my God, I’m on the verge of writing fan-fic here — but again, in case you missed it, I love this story.

But for the most part, I’ve told almost no one.

Y’know why?

Because as a man, this book is not supposed to be for me.

I realized this when I went to see the Twilight movie. Yes, I was there. Opening weekend. We got a babysitter for it. And I sat there in the dark with my wife and a roomful of suburban mothers and a smattering of teenage daughters. I counted. There were four other men (all teenagers) besides me. Me. Four dragged-along boyfriends. And the rest women.”

He should join up with Kaleb (Kaleb Nation). All the men in my theater were so dragged. We sat next to an 8th grade girl and her dad. He left the theater saying it was a very enjoyable movie. How’s that?!

I think that there are far more men that enjoyed Twilight than they lead on. I (of course) read all the books and had to let my husband in on some of the major goings on while I was reading. So, even after hearing (probably far too much than he wanted to) about twilight, he still watched every second of the movie with me (without being dragged), and said that he really liked it. He also said that he wants to see the rest of the movies. I think that if he was more of a reader he would totally read the series!

they should get Brad Meltzer, Kaleb Nation . Andrew Sims and Matt Briton (imprint and http://twilightsource.com/) to get together and do a podcast and feature it!!!

I absolutely love twilight, i had never even read it but I like the idea of a drama with love and action all rolled into one. I took my girlfriend at the time with me to see it, and while she hated it, saying the acting was poor I love it. Does that make me a real man? I love it.
