David Slade Talks Eclipse

Jun 14th, 2009 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Movie News

FEARnet recently talked to director David Slade about the upcoming adaptation of Eclipse!

“What will differ about Slade’s Twilight? “I don’t really know.  We haven’t even started shooting yet.”  While the director says he has a basic idea of what he wants to do with it, he is more concerned with telling a good story than being “different.”  “It is darker, and there is a lot more action than the previous two,” he admits.  “The third book is from Bella’s point of view, but the film will be more objective.”  And just how will he do that?  “We are going to focus on the origin stories of several characters, like Jacob, and show how Bella will decide between Edward and Jacob.”

David didn’t read the books until the studio was interested in bringing him in – then he did his homework.  “It was tough for a middle-aged man to get into,” he admits, “since they are written for 15-year-old girls.  But once I got past that, I found them to be quite good books, and a great story.”  He is especially excited about the great script from Dexter writer/producer Melissa Rosenberg.  Right now, they are still in preproduction, with plans to start shooting later in the year.”

  1. Elizabeth says:

I don’t like this director at all

  2. Michele Celine says:

It’s a real shame that Chris won’t be able to direct Eclipse. From what we’ve seen, he’s going to make New Moon great. I’m not so sure about David Slade.

  3. Samie says:

i think he is ok.., im gonna give him a chance

  4. Robby says:

Yea I’m a bit iffy about him…:(..What is this absurd notion that the books are written for 15 year olds? Stephenie didn’t even write it for anyone but herself!

  5. Emma says:

im really am not a david fan as of right now he dosent seem to get what he has gotten into and i would really hate it if this movie is bad . he dosent know any of the twilight history (in my mind ) like really 15 year old girls? no more like 8 to 50. I just hope that if he cant prove him self that stephenie or summit will step in. I mean the least he could do would be to do his home work. But on the same hand like samie said im going to also give him a chance and i ll hope for the best.

  6. Amanda Cullen says:

Come on guys. Give him a chance. He undestands that Eclipse is a darker story. Just look at his previous work. 30 Days of Night was a really dark vampire story and he turned a really good story into an amazing movie storywise as well as provide excellent cinematography. Just give him a chance and let’s see what he can do before we jump down his throat. Yes he’s made some inappropriate comments but let’s just let his work speak for itself.

  7. Shteff says:

meh, each of the movies are going to be DIFFERENT =/
tis silly having a different director for each tbh
    xox

  8. Mary says:

Dear Mr. Slade, my daughter is 17, I am 48 and we both love the twilight books, so forget about the 15 year old! And please don´t forget about the ROMANCE when you´re directing Eclipse…

  9. Elena says:

I don’t like the way he is thinking about the twilight books. I’m not sure about him, but I’m going to give him a chance…

  10. Robby says:

I think us fans have no choice but to give him a chance. But I don’t think that’s going to help some of us in developing a liking towards him. His attitude and comments are just….a bit off 🙁

  11. Bea(FanOfTheMonth-March/April/May) says:

im going in with an open mind. i dont want the movie 2 change 4 me so i dont wanna hate the director.

  12. Amy Kathryn says:

Sorry but I have to disagree with you Amanda… 30 days of night.. bit the big one! I didn’t enjoy it one bit, the story line the movie in general…. yuck yuck yuck!

I’ll have to put my two cents in on the “15-year-old girl” comment… along with myself, my grandmother (75 yrs old) and uncle (40 yrs old) all enjoy the books. So no giving that BS line about it being hard for a middle-aged man to get into the books.

All in all I’m going to give him a chance and hope for the best, just like I did with Chris. I have to say from what I’ve seen I’ve been plesently surprised by the clips of New Moon, seems Chris isn’t as terrible as some thought he would be.

    XOXO
    Amy Kat

  13. Carolina G.B. says:

It’s too bad Chriz Weitz will not direct Eclipse….

  14. Brandi says:

Well I have been excited about him but the books were NOT written for 15 year olds!!!!!! SM has always said her books are for everyone not just a certain age or gender! SHE HATES lables like that! And has said that a good book should be available for everyone! but other then that I have no complaints for this directer.

  15. Judith Akufo says:

I’m just not getting a good vibe from this guy, I don’t know what it is but I’m not connecting with him. It’s sort of like he just sees this as another movie to make and not as this big project that people expect be be insanely amazing, and yes, Twilight appeals to 15 year old girls but I think It was written for everyone some demographics are just too ashamed to admit it.

  16. Izzy says:

this director thinks he is the shit. ughh i loved chris weitz. catherine was ok but the moive turned out ameaturish. chris has talent and i can already tell the movie is going to be great. If this guy screws up eclipse. who wants to start a mob?

  17. Luna Eclipse says:

    he’s kind of… prickly

  18. Aseel says:

you cant really give him chance cause if he screws this up, you cant go back and redo the movie, it has too come out perfect.

  19. mason says:

well i love all the twilight books and the movie in my opinion more accuratley portrayed potheads and drama queens than the characters of twilight… but i have seen the trailers for new moon and im liking it so far so if they screw this one up then ill just quit watching the movies. but eclipse was my favorite bookso ill giv this guy a chance.

  20. Judith Akufo says:

I’m with you about the mob thing, Izzy

  21. Ivy Cullen says:

i agree with mason. and this guy sounds like oh yeah i know how to do everything. i don’t really understand the first few lines of the interview though… anyway.

  22. Ivy Cullen says:

im tired of the twilight stuff…not being a twi hater here, but i just don’t like what twilight has become. i loved loved loved what it was in my head and then they turned it into something that it wasnt.

  23. Ivy Cullen says:

but im still getting caught up in all the new moon stuff!!!!! <:-D
