I adore the vampire academy and the house of night books – they are AMAZING!
but i have to say, i read some of L.J smiths books that are pretty old, and they were reallly good, but i when i tried to read the vampire diary’s i couldn’t. Mostly because it ruins the show and, lets face, theres some PrEty good looking guys on that show
but i still had to laugh when i read that kassie wouldn’t be reading at all:)

I don’t mean to upset vampire fans out there, but the only vampire books I enjoyed were the Twilight ones. I can’t seem to like any of the other series. I read the back covers of the books at bookstores, and I even risk reading a random page in the middle of the book, but unlike Twilight, none of the other books has captured my attention.

I sometimes wondered what a Twilight TV show would be like, and so I was curious to see the Vampire Diaries. I was not impressed by the first episodes, and friends that have read the books tell me how different the show is from the original story, but it’s getting more and more interesting and I’ll definitely keep watching it!

I am so glad you guys are trying new vampire series! I recently just branched out and read the House of Night series and can’t wait for the next. I thought I would hate all other vamp series besides Twilight, but they are all so different that now I am hooked! I do agree with the previous poster that in the H.O.N series they do recap a lot, but the storyline picks up quickly so it doesn’t bother me. I’m now on to Vamp Academy! Thanks for the podcast, keeps me sane at work

I think the biggest problem I had with the House f Night series is how in each subsequent book, the first half of the book was basically a re-telling of the previous book. I didn’t feel like I got a whole lot of new material as I read each additional book. I mean, it’s ok to mention one or two PERTINENT facts from the previous book, but not 3 books back for the first half of the book. Other than that, great series!

Great topic this week ladies! I have read the Vampire Diaries and have watched the CW TV show and I love it. I have also read Vampire Academy. I love both of these series. I can’t wait for the next installment of both series. I tried to read the House of Night series and couldn’t get into it. But in the end Twilight is still my fav. Keep up the good work ladies.

i love the Vampire Diaries TV series and am going to start the books soon!

I have also read the all of the Vampire Academy series and let me say I think DIMITRI BELIKOV IS SMEXXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love rose she has a bad attitude but it works for her, and she is loyal to her friends which is why i love her!

Hello Kallie and Kassie,

I love your podcast!! Just wanted to comment on the Vampire Diaries T.V series and book series. I have faithfully watched the T.V. series and I absolutely love it. I have started reading the book series and I am quite happy that the T.V series and book series are different. I think I would have been disappointed if the T.V series mirrored the book. If they were the same I probably would not watch the t.v series.

I actually just finished reading book 1 of the Vampire Academy today before I saw this thread. So far I’m liking it though ti took me a bit to figure out all of the terminology for the three types of vampire in the series. Still, I think its pretty good and worth picking up for a quick read.

I really love the House of Night series, so much drama and excitement kept me wanting more the whole time reading it. I got through all 5 books in just about a week and I can’t wait for the next one to come out at the end of the month.

I am really glad that you will be discussing the Vampire Diaries and whether it is better to read or watch? I have been struggling with this! I have not read the series, but started watching it on TV. I am REALLY loving it! I love the actors and actresses chosen to play these characters! I actually get somewhat upset, becuz I just keep thinking, WOW, the girl playing Elena would have made THE perfect Bella! I would bet that Cassie will agree! She is exactly how I pictured Bella! So sad that producers didnt find her for Twilight instead of K.S.

BUT, every week I watch it and love it, it makes me want to run out and buy the books and start reading them, but I am afraid it will spoil watching the show for me! So I would love to hear what other readers and watchers have to say. It is exciting not knowing what is going to happen. But yet I know if I read, I will get a lot more of the characters thoughts and feelings!

Stephan and Damen are great! I cant help but like them both! Good boy , Bad boy? Which to choose? lol

i watch the TVD religiously!! it is awesome. i still <3 twilight more but its cool that every since Twilight came out in theaters, everything vampire is on tv or coming to theaters! its awesome! like the vampire’s assistant, new moon ( <3 ), the daybreakers, and the vampire diaries!

Great topic this week guys!!

I have read both the Vampire diaries and House of Night. Haven’t read Vampire academy yet. I loved the vampire diaries and love the show as well. The books provide a good base for the show although they are not the same. If you can let go the notion of having to be exactly the same, you can really enjoy both. And I gotta say, Stefan is pretty darn attractive if you ask me. Sorry Edward!! And the next trilogy is promising too, although the writing is a bit different, because she wrote it more than 10 years after. Can’t wait for the other two books.

The house of night novels are great too. I like their way of spelling vampyre. I found the dialogue was lacking a bit of maturity at the beginning but they seem to be getting better after each book. I guess it’s a bit difficult when you compare every vampire book you now read to Twilight… Nothing can compare to Twilight.

Great books nonetheless…

i love the house of night series of waht ive read so far but i have to wait for the next book X(. the vamprie academy books are so good too. i cant wait for the next one one to come out, i have blood promise, sooooo good.
