The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful!

Movie Review by Twilight Series Theories

Kallie Ross & Kassie Gean

There was so much good, and so little bad… but one thing is clear, The Twilight Saga: New Moon was “sort of beautiful”.  Initially we thought of three crucial categories, music, cheeze-factor, and fan reaction!  Then, after the third time we saw the movie, we decided we couldn’t leave out all of that ‘beautiful’!  So keep reading for more about the scenes that we couldn’t keep our eyes off of!

We admit that when we first heard the soundtrack we agreed it was ‘okay’. There were obvious songs that we loved.  And, songs we were curious to hear/see fit into the movie, but for the most part we weren’t too impressed with the compilation as a whole… Then we saw the movie!  Now we both just want to listen to the CD over and over. We really feel like they have great music to support each and every scene. Kassie says, “It is music that moves me!”  Top picks from the soundtrack include Rosalyn by Bon Iver & St. Vincent (Kassie’s fave) and Hearing Damage by Thom Yorke (Kallie’s fave).

Now, on to what we refer to as the ‘Cheeze-factor’…..yes there were a few moments. We loved seeing Bella changed into a vampire in Alice’s vision, but we have to admit it was one of the more cheezy moments in the film!  A second scene that was obviously cheezy was the motorcycle scene with Bella and Jacob!  The timing when Jacob gets on his bike to ride to Bella’s rescue, and the way he gets off the bike really looked cheezy!  (Honestly, we would discuss the fact that Jacob takes off his shirt in a cheezy way… but Kassie would rather save it for the ‘beautiful’ portion of the review!)  Honorable, yet cheezy, mentions include various lines from the wolfpack (i.e.“…let the wolf out of the bag!”) and human classmates (i.e.“Bella’s back!”)

.

Speaking of honorable, Twilight fans are the BEST fans!  Twilighters also tend to be the most excited, exhuberant and determined.  We commend you all for buying tickets and waiting in line all night.  We were right there with you!  I (Kallie) would like to add that the best part of opening night was hearing everyone talk about how much they loved the movie while walking out of the theater.  Kassie would like to mention that we all know how HOT Jacob and Edward are…. So why do you feel the need to scream every scene they appear in? “Come on!” She pouts.  Plus, Kassie is pretty sure the majority of the people sitting around her had read the books. She asked, “So what in the heck are the “oh no’s” and moans for?  REALLY?  Control yourself!”   (You know Kassie and I rarely agree on things, and this will be one more topic for us to discuss/argue about on the next podcast!)

Now on to the ‘Beautiful’!  The Twilight Saga: New Moon is filled with beautiful bad guys, stunning scenery, well-formed wolves, and heart-stopping heroes and heroines.  There are so many scenes worth mentioning it is hard to narrow it down!  The Volturi were intriguing and creepy, just as we imagined them.  Some of the smallest facial gestures made us squirm.  Chris Weitz did an amazing job creating the visual of what we have all seen in our mind’s eye, while reading the books.  He also brought attention and life to characters like Jessica and Jane by capturing off-handed murmurs.  (You know we all do it too!)  While the wolfpack is still young, and a little awkward, it played to their advantage, considering they all are getting acclimated to shape shifting.  But we have no complaints when it comes to their sense of humor or wardrobe!  Lastly, we were blown away by Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson’s performance.  They all have their good looks going for them, and in New Moon we get to see each of them dig deep and reveal the characters we all love to read about.

So, to wrap it up….We have seen The Twilight Saga: New Moon three times and plan to see it many more times!  We can agree that we actually love the movie, and can’t wait for it to come out on DVD!

I totally agree with you guys. Unfortunatly I’ve only seen the movie once, not three times, but it was amazing!

  2. TrendHater73 says:

At least you guys didn’t have three people sitting behind you that talked the ENTIRE movie. There was a couple and their small daughter behind me. The wife translated the ENTIRE movie into Spanish for her husband, she even read the October, November, December captions to him. Then the little girl would pipe in and ask questions. SO annoying. I didn’t care for the wolf pack and still don’t understand the choice to re-cast. The new boys weren’t very good acting wise, so that can’t be the argument for this. Taylor Lautner is amazing though! Oh and the vampire Bella scene was major cheeze-factor. =)

I’m so in total agreement with you guys on everything u guys have said … when I went to the theater on saturday to go see new moon me and my husband were sitting there watching it and when the part came up with the bikes and jacob taking his shirt off I swear every teeny boppers swooned so loud me and my husband laughed so hard and even made the remark I’m so glad I’m 29 lol even though I kept my own swooning to my self lol except when edward to his shit off in italy lol my husband caught me on that part lol ….. but all and all I really liked the movie it was put together really well I was really in aww with the whole thing and even my husband liked it even he really didn’t like the first one males are so weird lol

I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED Rob’s face in the part where Jake said “He’s arranging a funeral.” It was so beyond what imagined in the depression and ah-mazingly dead. I didn’t like how they left out Jake telling Charlie about the motorcycles cause it made Bella seem really mean when she said “It’s him. It’s always been him.” and finally I didn’t like how they ended it with “Marry me Bella.”. I <3’ed how in the book Edward said “She’d rather you be one of the eternal damned than be married.’ then he laughed” and Bella said “You think you’re joking.” But what do I know! That could have been put in Eclipse. My comments are starting to sound really negative but I can’t list everything I like. But one thing I did really like was Edward’s entrance to ‘Friends’ by Band of Skulls. It was beyond perfect!!!!!!!! five stars

The Official (self-declared) Captain Of Team Spunk Ransom (and Team Volturi cause I still love the Italian vamp mafia AND the sweet black capes)

    PS :K= vampire

  6. Sasha says:

honestly, it was way better than the first movie.

  7. Veronica says:

I’m in total agreance with you guys. I totally loved the movie, but I agree there where some cheesy stuff, like Bella running as a vampire with Edward yeah it was cheesy but they looked awesome doing it. Oh, I was laughing all the time Bella was with Jessica ( who kept babbling on) I thought it was hilarious. One thing that I totally loved in this movie was Alice. Ashley did an incredible job playing her and I was really proud of her, and she looked even prettier in this movie. The wolf pack was great, the Volturi were great.

I GIVE THE MOVIE 5 STARS AND 2 THUMBS UP!!! 🙂

    Team Edward all the way!!

  8. Steph says:

I’ve seen the movie twice and loved it.
A lot of the parts I like were already mentioned but I do have to say that Michael Sheen did an amazing job as Aro… so good.

  9. wendy says:

I thought the movie was absolutely awesome!! What an incredible step up from Twilight.
The CGI work with the wolves was unbelievably detailed. Did anyone else notice the clumps of fur flying during the wolf fight scene?!?! AMAZING!!
I too thought the scene with Bella and Edward, after her transformation, was bordering on ridiculous! What was with the costume director?? It was a completely inappropriate choice of clothing. Were they traveling back in time to her transform??!! The dress was so NOT Bella like.
I also thought they could have done a lot more with the Volturi scene. It seemed rushed. That scene is filled with intensity and action, both subtle and obvious, in the book I felt like they cheated us a bit with the final product in the movie. What I did see of the performances of the Volturi was exceptional. I just wanted a bit more of it! Dakota was spot on!
There was perhaps a small amount of gratuitious shirtlessness among the wolf pack, but I say that as I mop up my drool. I respected Taylor before, now I am just amazed by his dedication accomplishments in the gym. I wouldn’t mind borrowing his trainer for a week!!
Thanks to all the fans for buying their tickets this past week and for doing their part to insure the future of the series. Any news on Breaking Dawn ladies?? New Moon news came out right after Twilight……..

  10. Jasmine says:

Totally agree with u guyz on everything! I think the movie was GREAT! and Taylor a Rob were super HOT as usual! Although i haven’t seen the movie as much as u guys yet, I will! I give the movie 5 stars!!!

    Jazz (Team Cullen!)

  11. Kiwi says:

Only thing I have to add (as I am in agreement with all said) is how great Taylor Lautner was! I am Team Switzerland but have a soft spot for Jacob and Taylor really brought the character to life on screen, his passion for Bella really came across. It made me really hate Bella when she left with Alice. Need to see it again to get more but loved everything. The people i went with felt the movie dragged and needed more action but I liked that it stayed true to the books and I really felt the mood of the book too.

  12. Marci (major obsessed) says:

The only thing I didn’t like was that they never really show Bella crying except for when she is having nightmares. She should of been bawling in the woods when he left her. I loved Jake in this movie he was awesome. I think Paul is completely hot too.

  13. Carolina G.B. says:

Saw the movie three times as well!!!! Including the midnight showing!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! I love the review Kallie and Kassie!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait for the DVD!!!!!!!!!

  14. Jess S. says:

I loved the movie I’ve seen it twice! It’s the best! Love your summary too!

  15. gabrielle says:

    I agree with everything said.

My favourite part was when edward entered and he had the best facial expression. it was like “i know i am hot, i know that she loves me, so i am going to strut!”

    LOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!

    kristen was incredible, just incredible.

  16. switzerland girl says:

    I loved it!!!!!!!!
I think there was a lot less cheezy moments than in twilight and that the acting and special effects were really good!!!
I don’t think they could have done much better =D

  17. Wray says:

I thought it was delicious cheese – not the stinky kind!
