Stephenie Meyer’s New Film Credit: ‘Austenland’ Producer!

Jul 5th, 2011 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Movie News

The Hollywood Reporter has details on Stephenie Meyer’s new producing gig:

Keri RussellJJ Feild and Bret McKenzie will star in Austenland, an indie romantic comedy that is serving as the directorial debut of Jerusha Hess, who co-wrote Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre with her husband, helmer Jared Hess.

In a twist, the movie is also serving as the producing debut of Stephenie Meyer, author of the best-selling vampire books The Twilight Saga. Meyer has acted as a producer on the Twilight adaptations but this will be her first time working on non-authored fare.

Meyer is producing and financing the pic though her Fickle Fish Films banner, which she runs with Meghan Hibbett. Moxie Pictures’ Gina Mingacci is also producing.

Stephenie’s production company has a website (ficklefishfilms.com), but it’s still under construction. Austenland is a novel written by Stephenie’s friend, Shannon Hale, and the Twilight Lexicon has a great run-down of Stephenie and Shannon’s prior connections.

Have any of you read Austenland? I’m adding it to my to-read list now! Also, I love that J.J. Feilds will be in this movie! He played Henry Tilney in the most recent adaptation of Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey!

Kudos to Stephenie for all her artistic work, but I really wish she would get back to writing. I will need more of her books to keep me out of my “Post Twilight Depression” when Breaking Dawn is over. I want the mermaid books and the fantasy books she has mentioned and the rest of The Host books. I want her to take a three year vacation on a tropical island where no one can contact her except her family so she can relax and let all those writing jucies flow.

I agree with you completely! I think she needs a well-deserved break (and to get back to writing).

Post Twilight depression sucks….I understand completely….please Stephenie for the last time…go back to writing…your fans are depending on you.

I am glad she is continuing to work. My concern is that this will be another version of Lost In Austen, which is such a brilliant British mini-series: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1117666/
