Jackson Rathbone was born on December 21, 1984 in Singapore, the first of many places he lived before settling with his family in Midland, Texas. Jackson first began acting in The Pickwick Players, a local theater group near his home, before attending Interlachen, a private school for the arts in Michigan. Upon graduating high school, Jackson had planned to attend the Royal Scottish Academy but instead moved in with a friend in Los Angeles in order to pursue a career in film. He quickly signed on to Disney 411 where he interviewed various Disney Channel stars, before landing a recurring role on the ABC Family show “Beautiful People.” Jackson, who, in addition to acting, enjoys writing, playing, and producing music, will next be seen as Jasper Hale in the movie “Twilight.”
Jasper Hale is the adopted son of Carlisle and Esmee Cullen and the husband of Alice. Born Jasper Whitlock, the then 17-year-old Jasper joined the Confederate Army in his home state of Texas at the start of the Civil War, lying about his age in order to enlist. In 1863 Jasper was turned into a vampire by Maria, who used Jasper to gain territory in Mexico. He had always been charismatic in his human life, a talent that turned into an ability to manipulate emotions in his new life. While working with Maria, Jasper’s job was to train newborn vampires and eliminate them when they were no longer useful. Jasper led this lifestyle for many decades before joining up with his friends Peter and Charlotte. Eventually he grew weary of feeding on humans, mostly because he could feel his victims’ emotions at the time of their death, and left his friends. He met Alice in a Philadelphia diner after she had a vision that they would be together, and from there the two of them sought out Cullens. Jasper has the hardest time maintaining a “vegetarian” lifestyle due to the lack of restraint in his past occupation.
