Quileute Nation Has Mixed Feelings On Sudden Fame

Jul 7th, 2009 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Movie News

The New York Post has an article on how the Quileute Nation deals with the positive and negative aspects of the Twilight phenomenon.

“There are mixed feelings,” says tribal council member Anna Rose Counsell. Over the last three months, the tribe has struggled over what to do. “This is a phenomenon that is happening whether we like it or not.”

Quileute artists take pride in harvesting their own materials, whether it’s raw animal sinew for a drum or cedar bark for baskets. Penn-Charles says she’s felt judged by some tribal members because she knits the names of “Twilight” characters into traditional cowichin hats. They sell for $50 at the resort store, or $25 directly from her.

“They’re resentful. They think we’re selling out,” Penn-Charles says. “It’s not. It makes your car payment, or those braces your kids need.”

the quileute say they will be fine once twilight is gone, but newsflash its not goin away. i think it will be immoralized like tom sawyer, or the jungle by upton sinclair.

  2. Carolina G.B. says:

I think the Quileutes have every right to speak up their feelings… But, one thing is for sure, the Twilight fandom is not going anymore. Trust me, not any time soon. I am sure it’s going to be one of those memorized sagas…

  3. Melissa (melissaturkey) says:

still even if immoralized as a classic it will die down eventually, now that all the books are out and once all the movies are out then itll probably die down …
