March’s Book of the Month is… “Ruby Red!”

Mar 5th, 2012 | By | Category: Book of the Month, Featured Articles

March’s Book of the Month is Kerstin Gier’s Ruby Red, a novel I think you all will love (or at least, I hope you do)! This one happens to be a timeslip novel, and takes place in the best city in the world, London (okay, I may be a bit biased there). Ruby Red is the first book in a trilogy, originally published in German, though it’s the only book in the series currently available in the US. Once you finish this book, you are so going to wish you read German so that you can finish this amazing series! If you do read German, know that I am insanely jealous, as you can read the entire series right now. I’ll try not to hold it against you, but please, try not to brag too much. 😉

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Gwyneth Shepherd’s sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth, who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era!

Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon–the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together, Gwyneth and Gideon journey through time to discover who, in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust.

I just finished reading this book earlier this week. I saw it at my local library on the new arrival shelf and just loved the cover. I know, I know…you should never judge a book by its cover. But it is so pretty! In the case of this book, a pretty cover hid a really great story. I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy.

I’m reading the third part of the triology right now, and I love it! It’s so funny, and I like the story. Gwen (the original name; they changed it in the translation) is said to be 16, but she feels much more like 12 or 13 to me. I still like her, though.
