One of the many ‘perks’ while in LA, for our interview with Bill Condon, was seeing The Perks of Being a Wallflower.  The film is highly anticipated, not only for the star studded cast but also the fact that the novel is an all-time favorite for so many young people.  Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, and Ezra Miller don’t disappoint as they take on the respective roles of Charlie, Sam, and Patrick.

For those of you that are new to ‘being a wallflower‘, let me give you some background… The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a novel written by  Stephen Chbosky. It was published in 1999 by MTV. The story is narrated by Charlie and he describes his life in a series of letters to an anonymous person.  The novel is known for being one of the most challenged books in libraries across the country.  The story deals with bullying, homosexuality, abuse, broken families, and depression.

Now to get to the movie… There are a few changes from the pages to the movie, but they are all related to sub-plots, not main characters.  Logan Lerman plays a perfectly awkward and lovable Charlie, while Ezra Miller almost steals the show playing the dramatic and daring Patrick.  Emma Watson mastered the American accent and her character not only stole Charlie’s heart, but stole mine as well!

You will not go wrong if you take a trip to go see this modest film on the big screen, with it’s not-so-modest characters.  The movie will be in theaters starting September 20, 2012, so make sure to treat yourself to this ‘perk‘!
