Here’s my most reasonable theory… But I HATE it!
Bella is really really hurt. Everybody wants her bitten to save her. Though, Carlisle says vampire venom may not work cause she is so close to death.

This isn’t about Bella.
Maybe someone else who is close to the center of the plot is in a lifethreatening, fatal condition (obviously not one of the vampires) maybe a werewolf or a human? and then carlisle attempts to “save” them by making them a vampire but they’re too late?

Ooooh. I don’t really have theories for that one. Wait… YES I DO! I’ve begun to think that for his own moral reasons, Edward will stop the process that he promised Bella in terms of becoming a vampire. I don’t think that he could ever let himself be the reason that she would choose to die, whether he actually turned her or not. So I kind of wonder if something isn’t going to happen where she gets seriously injured to the point where turning her WOULD be saving her life. Makes me wonder if something goes wrong, though…

first thought – bella becomes a vampire and is still clumsy.
second thought- some one is dying and the good doctor is saying it’s too late to save him or her.
finally – what if its a vampire who already exists who has a feature or flaw that isn’t typical of vampires (like didn’t bella mention that the volturi’s skin was different or what if a person who was born with a genetically induced disability were to be changed into a vampire? if a person were born without say…an optic nerve, and was blind and changed into a vampire, the venom could enhance their other features but could it create what wasn’t there?)

What if Jacob is gravely injured and Bella wants to save him? Maybe the circumstances he is talking about is that he is a werewolf. Or maybe the condition is that Jacob would rather die than become a vampire? Probably wrong but its something! 🙂

my guess is that SM is trying to confuse us by saying that, she thinks that we’ll think its about Bella, but really Charlie, or Renee or someone she is relatively close to gets hurt and she doesnt want them to die so she tells Carlisle to change them so they wont die and Carlisle tells her “I’ve seen vampire venom work miracles, but there are conditions that even venom cannot overcome.” which basically means even if he bit them they would probably die since they are so near death already.
I also have another theory, maybe he is joking around, bella asks if something is fixed (possibly clumsiness, or something along those lines) after she is changed and he tells her “I’ve seen vampire venom work miracles, but there are conditions that even venom cannot overcome.”

I think it might be Charile, Renee or Phil. Any of the werewolves would probably rather die and whatever it is they’d heal quickly anyway. Vampires can’t get injured unless they are killed and as far as I know I don’t think venom can stop them if they are close to death so I think it has to be a human…. I hope it’s not Bella.

i don’t think this is in an action scene – as in someone dying on the floor in front of them – rather that someone’s said something about vampire characteristics and carlisle is pondering the question, in the cullens’ living room or something.
I seriously hope this is a jokey comment from Carlisle, preferably about Bella’s clumsiness, because that would mean she was actually going to be changed.
