  1. Lyncoln says:

I’m so tired of seeing negative feedback on Breaking Dawn! I absolutely loved the book! It’s definitely my 2nd fav. in the series right behind Twilight! πŸ™‚

  2. Jennifer says:

May I please say that I have to agree! I am sick and tired of all the negative feedback on the story! There was no way for Stephanie to avoid the wrap up, let’s be realistic here. I know people have the right to their opinion but the negativity is getting old! Fast! If people don’t like that that is fine, but I’m tired of having things ruined by people who have nothing good to say! This is one thing where most people get joy, and whether or not you like it, please keep it to yourself, and let the rest of us have our own opinion without making things harsh. Think about it people, you have people watching movies and television shows that are much worse, i.e. in my opinion, Survivor, come on. At least with this you are stimulating your mind instead of wasting braincells in front of the television, or doing drugs or figuratively getting pregnant. At least with this story, that is shown in the order in which is “proper”, as they are married and it’s not illicit lovemaking. Sorry Kallie and Kassie, I just had to speak my opinion.

    Thank you!
    Jennifer

  3. Angie says:

I have to say my initial reaction to breaking dawn was that she put everything the fans wanted into the book, and it wasn’t very good. I love these books, and so I re-read it, and took some time to really think about it, and after all that, I do like it. (also, because I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and wanted to read it again after the second time, which I wasn’t expecting). It isn’t my favorite, but I don’t hate it either. After listening and reading some interviews from Stephenie, I saw where she was coming from, and that helped me to accept and enjoy what was going on. I think really it was just the shock of everything that happened that made me dislike it. I mean really, after all the “no vampire babies people” that Kallie and Kassie say in their podcasts, I really freaked out when there was one! (no offense Kallie and Kassie, I absolutely LOVE your podcast and can’t get enough) I think that I was just so utterly shocked by everything that happend, I couldn’t just be in love with the story like I was with the other three. Now however I do like it, and I think I like it more everytime I read it. Sorry this is so long, but I wanted people to know, that for this one if you don’t like it, you should keep an open mind, read it again, and you might find a change of heart! Just my opinion. Thanks!

  4. Anne says:

Please enjoy the book for what it is, do not compare it with what you hoped had happened, that is stupid. That would be like watching the Little Mermaid and being angy that she didn’t stay a mermaid. It is Stephenie’s story, not yours. SUck it up!

  5. Jen says:

All this hate is just sad
Yes we all loved the series and to many it was not what they wanted but its not our book it’s Stephenie book if she gave us the book everyone wanted we would all be saying how predicable(sorry if thats spelled wrong) it was. I loved the book to be honest and when I began reading it I was sure I was going to hate it because I read the spoilers but I was wrong. It was great to me. But I feel this has gotten out of hand to make a site says Burn Breaking Dawn and to make fun of the people who defend it is just wrong. Its sad to see people who said they loved the writer to say she the worst thing to happen. I keep on seeing free speech but does it really need to go this far? I wished it didn’t but it has. I feel like I was a little kid again with this negativity, but like the other before me this is just my opinion.
    Thanks
    Jen

  6. Nessie says:

People need to sto ripping on the book-I’d like to see everyone of those people write a better book, and sell more copies than Breaking Dawn has sold!

  7. Nessie says:

(Anne)-That’s funny, cause I’m watching the Little Mermaid, now, wiht my little sister! πŸ™‚

  8. Laura says:

I loved Breaking Dawn! It had a suprise that no one expected ,A BABY! People are mad mainly because the books ended. Every good thing MUST come to an end! If the series just keep going on and on it would soon become boring! And more people would hate these books more than they hate Breaking Dawn now! Stephenie can’t make everyone happy! You can’t please everyone. But i think Breaking Dawn was awesome!

  9. Alissa says:

    Haters.
I’d like to see them try and complete this awesome series.

  10. Eileen says:

Ladies…It’s important to remember that everyone’s opinion counts, from both sides. It’s wonderful that many of you here enjoyed the book, love Stephenie, and would obviously would be hurt by some of the negative attention the book has received. But part of the artistic process is acceptance by the world at large, and this is an important process that we are all participating in. Our exchange of ideas, good and bad will help everyone better understand the book. Even Ms. Austen herself faced harsh criticism, but yet her legacy has endured. I enjoy hearing all sides…let’s keep it up!

  11. mary says:

I’m fan of the books, but I honestly did not like BD. It just didn’t feel right. Something seemed off. And the whole Nessie thing just ruined it. Now that’s my opinion and yeah I was expecting something better. Not everyone has to like it and I understand that. Some people will, but I think everyone is entitled to their opinion and what bothers me is that it feels like just because people didn’t like it, that they aren’t true fans. Maybe some aren’t, but again it’s an opinion and just like I respect those who liked the book, I would hope people would respect those who didn’t.

  12. Tiffany says:

mary, i agree with you. i’ve read it a few times already, and i must say that something didn’t seem right. like there was something missing, yet at the same time, too much going on…it was just a bunch of jumbled mush put together to make a big book…i liked the first two books though…then in book 3, bella’s pov again, i think that was just too much….but i still respect everyones opinion.

  13. TinaK says:

I have to say that I liked this book. I think Stephanie was writing what SHE wanted to write, not what the fans wanted her to write. If she did that, there wouldn’t be this backlash. Cuz who else wasn’t like, “JACOB IMPRINTED ON RENESMEE??? WTF??” At least I didn’t see that one coming. Also, I do think people didn’t like the book because Bella wasn’t so relatable anymore. She’s not imperfect, clumsy, insecure, HUMAN – like she once was. AND she’s also a married woman with child, which a majority of the fan base can’t probably relate to. That reason actually made me like the book more because I am married. Anyway, what’s done is done.

  14. Lauryn says:

this is ridiculous. its killing my buzz (haha quote reference). why do people hate it so much, it was shocking, yeah, but still a good read.

  15. Michelle says:

I love the series and i think breaking dawn was very good
I have gotten all my friends to read it and when they finished it some hated it and I asked them why they didnt like it most of them said it was because of Bella changing and having Nessie and i have to agree at first i didn’t like the fact that Bella was pregnant and I also didnt like when Edward started loving the child because it was basically eating Bella. When I finished the book I took a lot of time to…take in everything that happened,as i thought i realized that the reason why I didn’t like it at first was because I wanted the old Bella and Edward they just didn’t seem the same but everyone changes in life,no one stays the same and everyone needs a change in their life.
I’m happy that Stephenie changed the characters, problems and stuff like that because without that this story would be very boring.I also have to agree with Angie.

(sorry for making it so long)

  16. Jasmine says:

BREAKING DAWN IS THE BEST BOOK EVER EVEN BETTER THAN TWILIGHT!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE WITH THOSE PEOPLE????? ARE THEY LIKE CRAZY?!?!?!?!?!?

    Jasmine (Team Edward,Bella,Renesme!)

  17. Ashley says:

WAAAAAA I’M CRYING BECAUSE OF ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS. i feel sooo bad for Stephenie Meyer, the book was FABULOUS, AWESOME, THE BEST, and that is not describing it. I feel so bad that she has to deal with all the rotten comments she’s been getting.

If anyone who doesn’t like it here is my comment for you:

“GET OVER IT, SHE TRIED HER BEST TO RAP IT UP THE BEST WAY SHE COULD, AND IT’S EVEN WORSE IF YOU LIKE THE FANFICTIONS THAT HAS SOME OF THE SAME IDEAS AS THE ONES IN THE BOOK. IT’S HER LAST BOOK FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE!!! CAN YOU THINK OF SOME OTHER WAY TO CONCLUDE IT???”

ugh this is soo long but i just can’t stop rambling. I luved how Stephenie Meyer shaped everyone, it made the story sooo much more interesting…

  18. Alana_ says:

Ashley. CHILL. A negative feedback is also known as a critic.
    Quote Ashley:
β€œGET OVER IT, SHE TRIED HER BEST TO RAP IT UP THE BEST WAY SHE COULD, AND IT’S EVEN WORSE IF YOU LIKE THE FANFICTIONS THAT HAS SOME OF THE SAME IDEAS AS THE ONES IN THE BOOK. IT’S HER LAST BOOK FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE!!! CAN YOU THINK OF SOME OTHER WAY TO CONCLUDE IT???”

    Ermm yeah i can actually:
    1. Have the volturi war, skipping it out was retarded because she spent like 200 pages describing all the new vampires powers and what for? Nothing for them to just walk away! Whoo happy ending = boring.
    2. Bella didnt get pregnant and named the child Renesme..what kind of name is that anyways!
    3. Jacob didnt imprint on some 2 yr old.
    4. SM should have gone into greater dept with Bella’s struggle as in turning into a vamp and withstanding her thirst and such. She has it so easy! which made the book so boring to read.. Everything was TOO PERFECT. The book basically ended like a typical 10yr olds fairytale. That is simply the reason why many of these younger people love this book so much.

List would go on longer if i was bothered to type. Well at least MSN has trained me to type fast πŸ˜€

Overall Breaking Dawn was terrible COMPARED to her previous books which seem to hold a lot more reality for example the love triangle which i simple loved!

  19. Melissa says:

Alana, get over yourself. Every aspect of Breaking Dawn was completely perfect. Just because you didn’t like it, doesn’t mean you need to spread your negativity to everyone who visits this site. Stephanie Meyer tried to make the end of the series upredictable, and i think she did a great job of that. Just because it wasn’t you wanted or expected does not mean it wasn’t a good book. Breaking Dawn was a terrific book and that’s all I have to say.

  20. Keila says:

Melisa, that was very mature of you, real nice isn’t this about open forum!? I mean Hello dear this is a discussion not a persecution and all you BD DRONES need to stop telling critics to get over it! In my opinion it was a poorly written, lack luster, nightmare of a book. The charecters were diluted and it pales in comparison to the previous 3. I think the effort should have been aborted (along with Renesmee)! I’m personally a TEAM EDWAED girl and he was a ghost of himself in this “novel” . The cheap scenes of intimacy were lacking in true emotion and tenderness. To me it was sloppy idealistic, heartbreakingly dull and cheap-but that is simply my opinion and you may take it as you will.

  21. Keila says:

    I obviously meant EDWARD

  22. Jenna says:

yahhhh, i agree with mellisa. the book was completely perfect πŸ™‚ it was my favorite of the three.

  23. Alana says:

MELLISA, hey m8 i was just answering an open question. Moreover its just my opinion its a free world i can spread my negativity if i want to.

“Every aspect of Breaking Dawn was completely perfect.”
Haha! Joke?? Seriously Melissa learn to read better books and stop reading books which are all PERFECT and all end in a nice happily ever after.
“just because it wasn’t you wanted or expected does not mean it wasn’t a good book.
Ermm excuse me but why are you simply directing this to me. If you haven’t noticed many people seem to have the same opinion. And again its just OPINION. Its called a discussion hunny, maybe google the definition?

For those who agree that Breaking Dawn is a good book and better than the past 3 books here is what i have to say: You are either:
    1) Young and haven’t read many good books before

    2) You are terribly sick in the mind to think that Jacob imprinting of Renesmee is okay and the fact that Edward has SPERMS.

    3) You enjoy the fact that the characters arent the same as they were.

    4) You enjoy happy endings and still read disney books.

Think about it logically maybe even read her previous books and compare it to the neweset one.
Overall: the book was terrible and deep down (if u have some logic) you know the book is not as good as the past,

  24. Kristi says:

All the negativity is a real downer.

I hadn’t been on the internet in a few days after the book came out, to avoid spoilers, so when I went on a fansite, I was shocked.

My initial reaction – though I was in a rush to finish the book before the Chicago concert started- was it was very cheesy, I wish someone died, but I still liked it.

The wedding – Cute, very short, a to the point, obviously more important things were happening throughout the book.
The sex- made me laugh very hard, although the emo angsty Edward got old after about 2 seconds.
The pregnacy – obviously no one expected it – was a shocker.
I loved reading from Jacob point of view though. I didn’t like it at the End of Eclipse because it was kind of random. But the whole section was very cool.
In the middle of the book when Renesme was born I was thinking “This sounds an awful lot like fanfiction.”
(Side-Note: Stop bashing the name! Of course the name is different! What did you want “Elizabeth”? That would have made it worse. )
Then Jacob IMPRINTED on her… I was a little freaked out and had a major “Wtf” moment.
I was probably as mad as Bella about that.
Bella had definitely matured as a vampire, of course, she had a kid.
And of course the characters changed. Edward and Bella had a child, Jacob -as weird as it is – imprinted on the child.
Rosalie, I think, was still a bitch. Emmett was hilarious. Alice and Jasper were gone for most of it. Carlisle didn’t change much, and Esme was hardly mentioned.
I was expecting a fight scene, and was let down when there wasn’t one, and was very let down that no one died.
Why, oh why, did no one die?
Not even Alice and Jasper stayed away!
But, what were you expecting with an ending chapter titled “Happily Ever After”

After a few days of letting the book sink in, however, I realized that everything was very convenient. Everything was so perfect, and it annoyed me.
But that didn’t stop me from liking the book.
I like the other three more, but that doesn’t mean the last book was terrible.

I just think it’s ridiculous how much the fandom is overreacting.

The whole “Don’t burn it- return it” thing is stupid.

It’s a BOOK! It is NOT the end of the world!

It is a freaking novel that you enjoyed up until the last one!

And just a response to Alana. Though I don’t think this one was better:
I’m 15, so I suppose I am young, but I don’t see why everyone is bashing on Teenage girls when YA novels are targeted at age 12 to 18. Guess what the Twilight series is = YA novels!
But I have read some very good, very well written books.

I don’t think the imprinting thing is okay. I find it quite creepy and annoying, and way happy for Jacob. I was waiting for his death. (Not that I don’t like Jacob, I just wish he or SOMEONE IMPORTANT for that matter, would have died.)

I enjoy that some characters matured, but I don’t see how they changed all that much. Please explain to me.

I enjoy both happy and sad endings. And I still freaking love classic Disney.

Overall, I think the book was cute, and – though no my favorite or the best – good.

  25. Kristi says:

Sorry for the entirely too long, ADD, not important, not relevant to the topic post.

  26. Joy says:

In BD I miss the love triangle that was sending Twilight fans into actual Teams. It vanished in BD, it wasn’t properly ended in Eclipse(as so many people are now trying to say)if people were forming Teams for Bella’s choice. Many were hoping for a final decision with some form of loss, some tears from the readers and in the end a way to smile and be grateful with whatever the outcome might have been.

Instead we get a baby and many MANY bad pictures painted for the youth fans. Should a girl really change who she is for someone she loves? Should she give up her family and friends?

No, real women/girls shouldn’t do this and neither should protagonists that young women look up to. Or anyone for that matter, men/boys included. You give up your life, you should pay a price. OR you don’t give up that life and who you are. Bella could have picked Jacob and had the bouncing babies and picket fences. Or picked Edward and faced consequence. That’s life, that’s a good read. Breaking Dawn was a let down.

Try to imagine it… It’s the night before the wedding… Bella’s lying in bed FILLED with doubt because she does NOT want to get married. There’s a tap at her window… It’s Jacob. He’s come to convince her not to get married to Edward.

Bella, not having seen Jacob in months, is overcome with joy and reminded of the love she feels for him. yada yada yada…. SOMETHING

    OR

Bella gets marrie, even though she doesn’t want to and didnt even pick out her own dress or flowers. She gives up her loving dad and wacky mom and relentless(and let’s not forget lifesaving) bestfriend. Steph, make her actually GIVE THEM UP. It’s called a choice for a reason. Can’t be both ways! Ugh… so sooooo many things frustrated me with his book but nothing more so than the loss of the true passion between picking Edward or Jacob.

And please, Bella’s spine could not have broken in half during child labor if she never had one to start with. A hem please don’t hate for that πŸ™‚

And please people Don’t confuse hate with disappointment..

I’m a Twilight fan too, of the trilogy at least.

  27. Lauren says:

I am a fan of the books, and I’m not sad they ended it, that was inevitable, I always acknowledged that the books were not well written but my sick-romantic side prevails and I love the series. However, Breaking Dawn was so disappointing, the writing in and of itself is terrible and I felt like I was reading fnafiction. I felt like the author was looking for a gimmick for the final book, and that the pregnancy scenario was the best she could think of. Furthermore, the plot runs to smooth, Bella’s lfe is far to easy, she gets everything she wants without aving to work for it. Some may argue with me an this but it’s true. She doesn’t deal with thirst for blood, she magically turns pretty and everything works out her way. I will admit, I didn’t expect genius, but I expected better than this.

  28. Gabrielle says:

i loved the first three twilight books so much. i was looking forward to bd and was stoked when it came out… i loved the wedding, but hated whenever jacob came… why would sm put jacob through the pain of his love being married? also i just hate jacob. i felt that renesme was creepy and shouldn’t have been written about. bella and edward dont seem like parental figures to me they are like teenagers. what message is this giving to young girls? i was totally disappointed with the volrturi part. i mean… come on let it have been a full out war. i loved all the different vampires though. bella’s power is alright, but could’ve been cooler.

maybe my expecations were too high. i was very disappointed with this installment. the tale of edward and bella was so romantic and sm didn’t have any of this romanticness into bd.
i am a twilight fan but i give this book a tumbs down, not one of my favorite books.
thanks- srry if you like jacob but he makes me want to hurl.

  29. Meeshellle says:

First of all I think, whether you loved or hated the books, it is really natural to get defensive when someone has the oppisite opinion than you do about almost any issue you feel passionately about. It was obvious before BD came out that many different types of people were huge fans of the series.

I also think it is amusing that many non-teenagers think the “other side” is full of teenagers. Maturity has nothing to do with an opinion it is simply about experience. A lot of people are playing the maturity card, and I don’t think it has anything to do with your opinion of the series, maybe your reason why you liked or disliked the book, but not with the opinion itself.

Last I will say that I absolutely LOVED the book. And wanted to put my two cents in this spirited debate. I understand why many people think that everything that happened was too easy for Bella, but I also think Bella’s POV downplays her own danger and pain.
When looking over the entire series, and what Bella (a regular human girl) had to go through to get her happy ending, I don’t think the happiness came all that easy.
She was stalked by what amounted to a homicidal maniac, then had her heart broken, had to piece herself together while be stalked by another person bent on her destruction. Then she was emotional torn apart because of her feelings for two good guys and had to go through some very painful self-relization and a whole lot of guilt and pain because of it. Plus watching people she loved in dangerous situations then having an extremely painful risky pregnancy and dying while giving birth. Not a cake walk in my opinion.

  30. Vella says:

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2008/08/twilight-a-snap.html
    Good review.
Bad book. But I didn’t care! I thought it was hilarious! Here we have this hilarious harlequin, getting into all sorts of laughable shenanigans. I thought it was excellent. Wanna know my favourite scene?
    Bella CRYING for sex.
    Impeccable!
But congrats to all of you that liked it.
I for one never expected much from SM (she’s no writer, even the Twilighters have to admit, she HERSELF has attested to that). So I’m basically exempted from the letdown.
Hahaha…Can’t get the part where she cries for sex out of my head…Lol lol lol lol!!

  31. madly says:

the book was pretty good. but, i didn’t like how bella was when she was pregnant. got, i hate women like those. again, pretty good, not comparing it to what i might have expected, but there were some annoying parts. oh, and, could you people stop complaining about the not so good comments, please? people have their opinions and they don’t always have to agree with everyone.

    p.s.
sorry for this being long, but i wanted to get it all out there.

  32. Collin says:

Yeah, I don’t get why people didn’t like it either. I’m one of the few.. or maybe not so few male twilighters. My friend turned me onto them and I read all of them 1-4 in under a week and have since read them everyday and listened to the audio books. People say the characters didn’t act like they should and that the sex was too much and that it was violent. Those are ridiculous complaints, if you read the first three books… it very clearly establishes their personalities and based on the ending of the third book and the growth of several characters… everything they did made sense. Too much Sex? This seems like a complaint that the immature or inexperienced readers would have, here is a huge eye opener… but people in relationships… have sex… and when you have a Love like Edward and Bella… and they are married… there should of been more sex. That as it was, Stephanie did a great job of writing it in a classy way… maybe people had problems reading between the lines. As for the violence, what the hell did you expect from a Half Vampire/Half Human birth? Wine and Roses? Mainly it seems like people were mad that things changed…. but guess what… that’s what happens in life…. it changes. I hated Jacob, but I really got in to reading from his perspective… which made sense. It would have been boring with Bella just sitting on the couch pregnant; Jacob was where all the action was in that part of the book and by the end I understood and liked Jacob. Lastly, those saying that the Sex and Pregnancy was a metaphor for Sex after Marriage and Anti Abortion… that’s so ludicrous that it really doesn’t deserve a response. People got mad that Bella had self control as a Vampire, most don’t get that it’s not her power. It’s the fact that she was prepared and had known she was going to be a Vampire for over a year. Plus, her shielding power made complete sense. Since the first and second book she showed that neither Edward’s or Jane’s powers worked on her… both powers dealing with the mind. In the end it seems people are upset that Bella and Edward got their happy ending. To them I would ask why? This isn’t Romeo and Juliet or Harry Potter…. Did we really need Jacob to be killed or Edward to be killed or some of the Cullens? I found it refreshing to finally have a series that gave me characters I loved and then didn’t kill them off.. but instead rewarded them with everything they deserved and more. In the end this has been one of the most rewarding and complete book series I have read, it replaced Harry Potter for me which I realized really was for kids. Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are two of my all time Favorite books. All I can say, is… keep the faith… look forward to Twilight the Film… and thank you Stephanie Meyer!

  33. Collin says:

P.S. The Jacob relationship was a mistake and it was made clear in Eclipse that while it exists, it was only because Edward left and that it was regretted and ended by Bella. Edward and Bella are soul mates and even that doesn’t correctly describe their love. Bella loved Jacob like brother and while that got of course.. it went back on track in BD thanks to that beautiful imprinting.

  34. hahhahaha says:

    Well, Breaking Dawn was great.
It was a little gory, but other than that I loved it.
    People are so mean saying
“I’m going to burn the book.”
I WOULD NEVER BURN THE BOOK.
I also don’t understand why people are so negative.
It ended the way everyone wanted to, would people rather see her with Jacob?
No, of course not. So yeah.
    Maybe because it’s over.
No one want it to be.
But, it has to end sometime.
Midnight Sun will come out eventually.
Edward’s point of view on Twilight would sound really good.
    πŸ™‚

  35. elise says:

i dont understand why people hate it!!!!!
    i liked it!!!!
sure it wasnt her but i wouldnt burn it!!!!
it was my third fav behind Eclipes, and twilight!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  36. Jen B says:

So, I read your comments and feel compelled to make my point..
Who didn’t read it in lightning speed? did anyone not feel completely captivated from page one until the end? thats what the book was about.. captivating its readers.. not giving you the path and ending you expected. Its the unexpected that made it great…
Who would’ve guessed that edward could impregnate bella? who’da guessed Jacob would have left his pack and Leah join him. Who would have guessed That jacob would imprint on a half werewolf.. and that reneseme (i agree, dumb name) would be able to have opposite talents than her mother? who’da guessed that Bella would have a shield? or how well she would handle being a vampire.. or even that charlie would still be in her life after?
regardless of you hating the choices Stephanie meyer made.. she forced the readers to be surprised time and time again… and even with the “conclusion” … she still left the readers guessing….
    – how are jacob and reneseme going to have a relationship? what will their struggles be? can they procreate? what will that generation be like? vampire shapeshifters?
    – will the volturi return? will Bella be the leader of the new revolution like Aros and Caius?
    – what of the 150 year old half vampire people Alice brought? what are their lives all about? will there be some struggle with reneseme and jacob and that guy?
    I could go on….
My point being, a great author draws closure to a book or even series, but still has you stinking about all the tangents beyond the words… in essence.. having the story live on like life… nothing really ends with new generations constantly evolving with new stories and tales of their own.
I think, like the book or not… captivating, well written and kept the audience wanting more….

  37. Jen B says:

sorry.. half vampire.. not half werewolf…

  38. Angel Vazquez says:

For me is a great book. A great saga. SM wrote a story i read Twilight and became a fan, is not my story, i didnt wrote it so…why bother? Why fight and rant like a maniac bitter person because someone wrote something didnt want!?
For all i have seen some people hate the lack of trouble or i better say, thelack of problem to get out of trouble. I like happy endings, i like the happyly ever after concept, i read books because i like to forget i am living in a dark world lol. I felt that SM want us to see all the good things Bella and Edward have, they suffer a LOT and this is the final book from Bellas POV so….this book was a sweet goodbye, a win battle, a happy ending. Is kind of creepy see how some people dont like happy endings.

  39. Chere says:

I am freakishly late to this party, but I love chiming in when people are out numbered.

I hate to do this to delusional fans, but only to you would the honest to god truth be negativity. I know, I am a fan of things, I have had people tell me I shouldn’t be and be ‘negative’ about it. But then, I take some time, look back at it all, and realize they were right for the most part.

So, I have to agree with Alana for the most part, the book was horrible, ultimately horrible. And, unfortunately, I have had enough experience reading good books and just as much experience reading ghastly fiction and fanfiction to have seen it coming a two books away. Though to Stephenie’s credit she kept me interested for a good while, and I did have hope that she’d surprise me. I am disappointed her ego got to her, you could say.

This isn’t about how I wanted the story to turn out, I couldn’t help but SEE everything playing out already. I knew what was going to happen with the relationship halfway through the 3rd book, I knew they’d have to consummate their relationship in front of God in someway before nookie was given, I knew there would be a child, I knew it would ‘kill’ Bella, I knew she’d be turned all vamp and I even figured out that the only reason Jacob was around was to be best mates with the demon spawn ‘that shall not be named’. It just didn’t happen in the third book like it should have. So, I had to read the fourth to give some sort of close to this overpriced Mary-Sue.

That’s what it is folks, someone even said earlier on this discussion that she just wrote what the fanfictions were hoping would come from it… great paid authors taking tips from looney fanfic birdies…

And I disagree with Jen B, I didn’t read it at lightening speed, it did not captivate me like the first two books did. Maybe the first 100 pages or so, then came the multitudes of ego-maniacal descriptive that could have easily been summed up in 50 pages with better action sequences. I could not deal with the 150 pages of descriptive narrative in Tale of Two Cities (a classic), I sure as hell am not dealing with over 400 pages of it in a trite, teen romance that was written to only serve the Mormon author’s belief system in marriage before sex, even with the undead. (ZOMG!YAYsforpurityringsandearsexandTRUELOVE!)

I trudged through the descriptive to find out it never ended, everything was too perfect, as Alana said before, in the author’s mind and it was spewed upon the page like the last whiskey shot that was one too many in a colorfully distasteful array of pompous, pious muck. And, I will say now, I have read better fanfiction with more real conflict than this trash.

Real conflict doesn’t mean a plan that was already decided upon once things were set into motion, like Bella and the baby fiasco. The baby, good gods the baby, Has anyone here seen Dawn of the Dead, the newer one? Zombie baby ring any bells. It didn’t work there, it won’t work here. No matter how cute or smart or ‘special’ the baby is. If this were a TV Series, she just jumped the shark by writing in a baby, though the wedding was close enough to jumping the shark already.

And the whole bit with Bella being liked by everyone, well by every guy… She was the perfect damsel in distress that was also Atlas with the world on her shoulders, but as Joy pointed out didn’t really have a spine to hold that world up to begin with. Now that I have put it into those terms, does it not click with ya’ll that this was nothing more than a Mary Sue? The shy, reserved girl that thinks she’s ugly but that gets the hottest guys vying for her attention and saving her at every turn even though she thinks she can save herself or wants to save everyone else by making herself a sacrifice? Serious? You couldn’t see that?

Either way, those of us should get our money back on these books if we didn’t like them, takes the royalties away from the author and not see the movie. Only because it can only end worse than the series did, no need to set ourselves up for disappointment again. Though I don’t think the turn out is going to be as good as it would have been now that this book has trashed its series’ rep.

Also, I CAN gripe all I want because I have written fiction better than this. I have come up with impromptu nighttime stories for toddlers better than this. And I don’t see myself as being that creative most of the time.

Honestly, I don’t see why people are getting so bent out of shape. I just finished it (yeah, I know it took me a while to get to it but I had no $). I couldn’t get enough, just as her other books, and I am a little creeped out that everyone is saying “I wish someone important had died”. At least it was unexpected that no one did die. I for sure thought someone would go.
And it’s a little creepy that people are so angry. Get a life. Sorry, but it’s a book. I love them dearly, my face was in this book whenever I wasn’t in class or at work. I think she is a tremendous writer, and has a way of grabbing you and keeping you there. It was slightly disappointing that there was NO action whatsoever at the end. BUT I didn’t write it, and I’m not gonna go on wishing she would write it in a different way. So y’all need to get to livin’, because if you care THAT much…. Maybe you should die. JK. But yeah get a life.

ok I loved loved loved the book It was awsome it had alot of twist in it but when I found out that bella was preggers i already knew that jacob would inprint on her so that was awsome and not only that but i loved all the new vampires in it. i had to but two copies of it because someone stole my first one (that I waited in line for 6 hours) so yeah it was awsome thought to those who didnt like it you should meet my freind she hated it oh well it was great!!

  42. Savanah says:

I thought the whole series was dry. I mean it like there wasn’t enough detail and Bella dose the same three things in the book, and the author makes girls look dumb and naive! This book dosen’t make girls look strong, but like dumb blondes!(just a saying no offense) And I predicted the whole ending, fans would be outraged if it didn’t end like a fairy tale. Now it’s just turning into marketing.

  43. Aerii says:

Agree wholeheatedly with Savannah. Forget about Breaking Dawn, this whole series sucked. And yes, I COULD have wrote a better ending.

  44. Valerie says:

hey guys. no honey. you coulnt have written a better series or even an ending for that matter. if u could u wouldnt have even read the whole twilight. but i do agree that things COULD have been changed. Lets say- the name. i know some of u think it is cool and alll and i sorta do too, but i like the middle name better. Carlie. More original and Bella wouldnt have to get so mad at jacob for calling remesme nessie… I also didnt like how she cut out half of the scenes where they were even close to touching. that just made me feel like there wasnt as much love between Edward and Bella as there was in the other books. I think its cool how she ended it though. i mean, Edward has been struggling with not being able to hear Bella, but in the end, he finally did. that was really heart felt. also, this whole thing about taking out scenes that u dont like, what the heck!!?? i mean, if u took out all the scenes that fans didnt like, it wouldnt even b a book. it would be a short story essay. overall though, i thought the book was great and NO ONE could do a better job.

I don’t think anyone can generally say or have any factual distaste towards the book. Merely because, literature is a form of art, and like all other art, it’s all a matter of opinion. While reading, the reader has an image in their head, their own distinct idea of how it should end, their own picture for the characters and scenery. Likewise, Stephanie had her own image in her head, and this is evidently, HER book. She followed it out as she saw it, there’s nothing wrong in that. Obviously, no one can please everyone. And obviously, no book will ever play out exactly to anyone’s readers liking. In my eyes, maybe some of the things in BD were a little out of whack. But through it all, I was still captivated and the fact that Stephanie has the power to captivate and induce her reader’s into a series like this, does infact show talent. I understand how people can be displeased and upset with the ending of a series they grew into such good liking with, but it’s no reason to bash the author.

  46. Valerie says:

i agree with caitie with the last part, but if u want a book that is just for you, why would u write a book for everyone. i think she had her own opinion in here some but i dont think the whole thing was an enjoyment for her. she loves intertaining her fans. even though she didnt please everyone, she tried hard to. anyway, i loved the book and wish stephenie would hurry up with midnight sun.. πŸ™‚

breaking dawn was a great book so screw anyone who thks otherwise ans Stephanie Meyers is a great writer so get off her BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved this Breaking . She had to bring the series to an end it couldn’t last forever, i think she did it the best way. Anyway that’s what writing is about. Putting what you want out there: you thought and ideas, original stuff. I have to say she wrote a wonderful series full of love and romance, twist and turns. I can’t wait to see how they all turn out on the big screen. And also read any work this wonderfully creative writer comes up with.
