Harry Potter’s HBP is Moved…
Aug 15th, 2008 | By Kallieross | Category: Site NewsThe sixth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, originally scheduled for a November 21st release, has now been moved to July 17, 2009 in the US and major international markets, according to MarketWatch.com. WB has confirmed the move to TLC. Update: The the HPB official website has changed to reflect the date.
I know you are wondering why this news is on our site, but HBP would have been released the week before Twilight. The Harry Potter film would have been Twilight’s biggest competition! Hmmmmm!?!?
*Thanks to Leaky News for the heads up!
that’s reallly annoying
why would they change it?!?!?!?!?!!?!??
now we have to wait like a YEAR to see it
grrrrrrrrrrrr
HA! GOOD! HP is good, really good but not as great as Twilight. They knew that they didn’t stand a chance! Whoop whoop!

W-w-what?! WHY?! NOW TWILIGHT HAS NO GOOD COMPETITION!!!! IT’S LIKE GIVING AWAY THE GOLD TO SOME 6TH PLACE SWIMMER INSTEAD OF MICHEAL PHELPS!!!! *hyperventaliates*
*goes to finda movie that will compete against Twilight…so Twilight can win..XD*
that is the best news I’ve ever heard. I hated HP and was so scared about the competition. Now more fans will be going to Twilight. woo hoo………………..
Also, I bet the producer see all the humongous hype and fans with Twilight so they are scared out of there seats. They will make more money with it in July.
It’s because all of the wizards were dazzled! Now I will have to devote my full attention to Twilight : )
WHAT?!?!?!?!?! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW TWILIGHT WILL BE NO FUN!!! BECAUSE NOW TWILIGHT CAN’T WIN!!! THAY JUST AUTOMATICALLY WIN!!! I HAD A BET WITH MY FRIEND THAT TWILIGHT WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY IN THE BOX OFFICE THAN HARRY POTTER AND NOW THAT BET IS JUST COMPLETELY RUINED!!!! WHY, HP WHY?!?!?!?!?
i see it differently than most of you. i think that the h.p. people are not worried so much thinking they will lose money to twilight, h.p. has a much wider fanbase than twilight although twilight’s has been growing, it has not yet reached the h.p. level, and this is perfectly okay, there are what 7 harry books and only four twilight and the movie isn’t out yet. i think h.p. wants to have all the box office that week and not share it, that way there is more revenu for the final two movies since they are breaking deathly hallows up.
thats good and bad. I was wanting to see the movie, not as much as Twilight of course… but whatever hehehe no competition for Twilight =]
yep i agree with yall that say they did it cuz they were afraid of TWILIGHT!!!! muahaha we’ll rule the world XD
but on a serious note, im a big HP fan and now im an extremely disappointed HP fan. now we have to wait a friggen year!!
HA! I knew it! They were too afraid to compete against Twilight. But this is kinda irritating, because the people who moved the movie are afraid Twilight will hurt HP’s pride…
This is just fun competition, not some kind of death showdown. I can’t believe they caved. The reason is so OBVIOUS.
oh Darn it !!! I was really looking forward to that movie come thanksgivings, oh well!!! I guess is good news for twilight.
what?!!! they are breaking deathly hollows up!!!
they’ll probably do the same thing with BD when it hits the theaters
HA! HA! HA! They got scared so they had to back out!!!
Yeah!!!! Now Twilight will have NO competition in December 🙂
ahaha this makes me laugh…Twilight will own HP
Now lets hope they dont do that to twilight, which i dout they will, cuz since breaking dawn just came out..its a good time…
im sorry to all you Harry potter fans…im not one myself…but i can imagine the angaryness.. as if that happened to twilight i be … words can explain..lol
dang it, now it ruins the Book Movie Run, because the Clique Movie is on DVD and comes out on the same day as the old HP date and then, HP would’ve come on, then two weeks later, Twilight would’ve gone. Gr…..
LMAO
Twilight scared Harry Potter away!
thats funny
but I’m kinda mad because I was excited for a little competition
it would have been interesting to see
OMG >:O I am so angry with this news!!!
dudez Harry Potter would have kick twilights ass. I mean I love twilight like the next person but HP is my greatest love and I was more excited to see it. also hp did not move its date because of Twilight, GOD!!!
I have to wonder if perhaps they were a little behind on editing and running behind schedule for this movie and that helped them make the decision to move it to the summer, not just the fact that it would make more money.
I don’t think twilight would give them that much competition because right now its not as big as Harry Potter. Now if we look down the road think about when Eclipse or Breaking Dawn would be released and say hypothetically they would come out the same time as HP& Deathly Hallows part 2, then we would see a lot more competition once more people catch on.
I would like to see it do well, and I’m pretty peeved that they moved the HP movie to the Summer, but this will give the world a chance to see Stephenies world of values and morals on the big screen and open it up to a wider audience. I think right now with all of the war and violence and insanity Stephenie Meyer is what we need!!
Wow, I mean, I’m not a huge fan of the HP movies (I adore the books), but that’s awful of Warner Brothers!
Bascially what they’re saying is, because we are lazy, we don’t want to take the time to write new scripts and The Dark Knight already got us a buttload of money so we’re changing the date for almost a year later where there will be no competition so we can make more money.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
i may love twilight more, but i am a semi-harry potter fan and having to wait ANOTHER YEAR just drives me crazy
* venting *
lol sorry =]
wow that’s wierd
i really wanted to see twilight beat them!!!
lol
Wow, now the Wolverine moive is HP’s compititon. Either way HP’s going down.
i told my mom that and she said i know its in the paper. it didn’t even say why in the paper… it said that they were perfectly on time and that it would have been ready by november but they are just delaying the date. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU, HUH?!?!?! IT MUST BE TWILIGHT!!! THEY’RE JUST AFRAID TO ADMIT IT!!!
Ha ha ha! As ticked off as I was about HP being pushed back, I see I’m not the only one thinking that this is definitely due to WB being weary of a bit of competition…
I’m having a hard time following WB’s reasoning that summer releases make more money. As if HP needs any help making money! Besides, all the HP films have alternated between summer and winter releases without a problem in the box offices…
To me, it sounds like all the HP vs. Twilight press had made them nervous…
It still sucks though. I was looking forward to this being awesome winter and being able to see both. WB…
I kind of agree that Harry Potter 6 would want its own box office weekend or whatever… But still. Why push it back all the way to July??? The could have gone with an earlier month. Its just not done yet. That is all.
Aw! nooooooooooooooo I wanted to see the competition!
honestly, i would have gone to see both movies like, the weekend they came out, and im sure im not the only one. like, they would both make quite a bit of money, wouldnt they?
and, the die hard HP fans would go see it like, 3 times so they would beat twilight, so they would make a lot of money that way too
OH PLEASE! Look at what I found:
“Studio president and chief operating officer Alan Horn says the studio has had success with past summer “Harry Potter” releases, including the fifth movie.
Horn also says the Writers Guild of America strike had “impacted the readiness of scripts for other films – changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of.”
Now. I think we all know the truth! Harry Potter people are all liars and they know that Twilight is gonna kick their asses! So they try to cover that up by saying crap!
Something else we all know: TWILIGHT WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD…..ONE COUNTRY AT A TIME!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!
Wow, reading comments on this post has really showed me how immature a lot of people are being over the situation. As a huge Harry Potter fan, I am very upset with having to wait a year to see the movie. I know a lot of the reps from Warner Brothers are saying that they are changing it to a summer release after the success of The Dark Knight. I can’t argue with them there, they will probably make more money in the summer, but I don’t think it was necessary. It’s not like people aren’t going to see Harry Potter if it came out in the fall.
If I’m being completely honest (and I know I’m on a Twilight fan site, so I’m prepared to be chewed out for saying this) I think that Twilight would not have been as big of a competition as a lot of Twilight fans thought. Harry Potter has such a HUGE fan base all over the world, and people who haven’t read the books want to know what happens next. While Twilight has a growing fan base, it hasn’t reached Harry Potter status yet. I know that the films will help Twilight to become even more popular, but I still think Harry Potter would have come out on top. Many people I’ve spoken to who haven’t read the books are planning on waiting until Twilight comes out on DVD, because they are unsure if they will enjoy the story.
::sigh:: and i was really looking forward to seeing HP. 🙁
But, ya Twilight will still do really well!! It’ll probably look even better now that they don’t have the gigantic HP fan base to over shadow us. ^^ Because let’s face it, HP has had A LOT more time to gain fans. And I agree, that Twilight just isn’t there yet.
WHO CARES! TWILIGHT AND HARRY POTTER ARE NOTHING ALIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT TICKS ME OFF TO HERE ALL THIS JUNK ABOUT TWILIGHT WAS ITS COMPOTITION!
HAHA!!!!!!!! THEY KNOW THAT THEY DON’T STAND A CHANCE AGAINST TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! F*ING WIMPS!!!!!!!!! TWILIGHT KICKS HARRY POTTERS ASS BIG TIME!!!!!!
TWILIGHT ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jasmine (Team Edward,Bella,Renesme!)
Actually Jasmine, there reasoning has nothing to do with Twilight.
I actually wish this wasn’t posted on this website. The two series are compared too much, when they are both very different.
This is a good thing for the Twilight movie’s ticket sales. It will probably help. But, I really do no think that Warner Brothers was worried about the competition with Twilight. I think they just want more money, which they will get if they release it in the summer.
hahahaaaa
Harry Potter must be scared of vampires.
: D
HOLY ****!!!!!! EVERY1 is MESSED UP!!!! oh no,there is no more competion for Twilight the word is going to end! WTH is up with that!!!!! HP and Twilight HAVE NOTHING IN COMON! execpt for rob, who has played/is playing a FAB job at any part in any movie! people need to execpt the fact that TWILIGHT is still GROWING! And that HP is shared with evry writter! Hp is THE BIGEST THING EVER! I <3 both for different reasons! sorry to every1 but GET A GRIP! TWILIGHT(movie) ISN”T OUT YET! AND HP has 5 MOVIES ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH I AM NOW GOING TO YELL @ ANY1 ELSE WHO SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<3erin
URGGGG!!!
Honestly guys.. Your just sooo funny to think that Twilight would overtake Harry Potter. It’s absolutely not the same thing. And i’m glad for twilight but the deception for the new release date of HP is much more important… 🙁
