Jacob + Nessie = Jassie

Aug 20th, 2008 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Question of the Week

For this week’s Question of the Week we wanted to ask you a question about our celebrity couple Jassie!

How do you feel about Jacob imprinting on Renesme? And, as a personal favor… when did you figure out Jacob had imprinted?

The art work is from Nehvah.

  1. Taryn says:

It’s cute, but creepy, but still cute. Still kind of torn. I just can’t imagine the conversation when she is older where Jacob has to tell her that “Hey I used to be in love with your mom….and I thought about her in dirty ways…..which now I do with you…..” That conversation will be so awkward but funny at the same time.

I figured out that Jacob was going to imprint on Nessie when they said it was a girl. I was like “OMG NO SHE WOULDN’T!” and then she did. I was just shocked mostly.

  2. Megan Q. says:

I thought it was incredibly weird at first. But, once I saw how they were together and how Jacob was finally happy I liked it better. Plus, it finally made sense on how Bella and Jacob were supposed to be in each other’s lives. I thought they were so cute together, especially when Charlie was coming to visit and Edward told her not to bite him and she asked if she could still bite Jacob. That made me laugh. Kassie I’m totally with you, I didn’t realize that Jacob had imprinted at the end of his book. I didn’t figure it out until she actually said it and I felt incredibly dense for not figuring it out. I had to go back and read it again to catch it. So yeah, I feel you.

  3. sissy says:

well i knew AT ONCE jacob had imprinted on nessie the last page of jacob’s book. it couldn’t have been clearer. well, actually it could have…but i knew exactly what was happening.

i think it shocked me more than when we found out bella was pregnant.
i sat in my bed (around 8 in the morning mind you), just sitting there, thinking “no way no way no way no way, crazy crazy stuff, omgsh, no way”
and i had no one to talk to! so i just kept sittin in bed thinking about it. but i didnt really have a reaction till laterrrrr.
i totally agreed with bella when she said something like “i hold her for all of one time and you think you have this wolfish claim on her?” or something along those lines (sorry i dont have my book at the momento)
i really wish bella and edward had some time with just renesmee
oh by the way i DONT like “nessie”. totally agree with bella again: loch ness monster!!!!! gah!!
but then as the book went on and they all realized renesmee was in danger and jacob was always there, and everything. its really sweet
and i do love how we really get the answer as to whyyy bella and jacob seemed so attached. it makes sense.

for me though, it never ever creeped me out. with the whole: eww jacob was in love with her MOM and now he’s all hitting on her DAUGHTER.
i cant see it that way. it was meant to be. like peter pan πŸ˜‰ wendy to jane.

  4. Janet says:

I figured it out when it happened but I had a feeling early on in the book that if the baby was a girl then that’s what would happen. I didn’t have so much of a problem with Quil and Claire. I think there is a certain ick factor but I got over it. The difference with Jassie was that we saw him interacting with her so much and I think that’s why people are a little bit more hesitant about it whereas with Quil and Claire people could just ignore it.

  5. Gloria says:

When I found out that Jacob imprinted on Nessie was when Jacob was sort of describing the feelings of imprinting in the last chapter in the book of Jacob in BD and it sounded familiar to that one chapter in Eclipse where he (Jacob) is describing imprinting to Bella.

  6. Kelly says:

I loved this fact! I also loved how Bella reacted!!!!!!! Im am slow and figured it out when he was talking about the cutting of strings! At first I was a little mad-ish and like “WHAT?” But I don’t think things could have worked out better! Also at first I wasn’t fond of Nessie but when Bella held her, like the other vamps, I loved her! I also think its funny that Jake loves Bella, but he couldn’t imprint on her. But then when half of Edward (who he used to hate) gets in there he falls head-over-heals in love! LOL!
Oh I love Breaking Dawn and am eternally thankful it wasn’t a dream! πŸ˜€

  7. Alex says:

Well, I figured out that Jake had imprinted on Nessie way after the end of the seond book. I had NO IDEA what was going on right then and there. Once that Bella put two and two together and she stated that he had imprinted I finally understood it. I’ll admit that I was trying to figure it out myself and couldn’t. I guess I’m a little slow(or alot) haha. I’m glad though that Jacob found his other half!

  8. Kelly says:

    ps- GREAT fan art!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Elizabeth Cullen says:

I immediately knew Jacob would imprint once Renesmee (shudders at name) was conseived. It was so out there and wild that at first I was jokingly irratated and started babbling. My friend slapped my arm once she read Jacob imprint on Nessie. I’m in shock by the imprintion (sp?).
I’m kind of like “Oh, that’s nice… and strange, and creepy. Jacob made out with her mother. That’ll be a fun story to tell Nessie later.” I’m still shocked about the whole pregnancy thing. I was dead sure SM had made it very clear that vampires can’t reproduce. At all. I’m more freaked about the fact that she’s a half-vampire and he’s a werewolf (oh, and the idea that the Quiluetes aren’t werewolves but actually just shapeshifters is absurd and unneccisary, anywho) is just weird. I’d prefer him imprint on me, oh well…

    all in all,
    Viva La Jassie!!!

  10. Elizabeth Cullen says:

And I REALLY, REALLY don’t like Renesmee’s name. I mean, SM has come up with all these cool, exotic names for the other vampires and it’s like she decided to be lazy with Bella’s child’s name. Bella was very OOC (out of character) in this book. That’s all, thanx. Y’all rock

  11. Yena says:

I knew exactly that Jacob imprinted when he started to explain his feelings. I really like the idea that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee because I’ve always wanted Jacob to be happy and this way Bella is not torn with breaking Jacob’s heart and Jacob is happy with knowing he loves someone else. The fact that he doesn’t care about actually dating Renesmee makes me happy and he just generally wants her to be safe and happy and theres nothing wrong with something like that. This imprinting has brought the Cullens and the warewolves on better terms and now Bella and Renesmee are safe. Everything just fell into place when Jacob imprinted on Renesmee and now Jacob and Bella can be a family like they’ve already wanted.

  12. Britney says:

As soon as I found out Bella was pregnant i thought to myself “omg Bellas gunna have a girl and Jacob is going to imprint on her” but as soon as I thought that i was like “nahhh thats crazy” lol, but as soon as i read “My shaking jerked to a stop; heat flooded through me, stronger than before, but it was a new kind of heat–not a burning. It was glowing”- page 359 i was like “OMG HE JUST IMPRINTED ON THE BABY OMG OME OMG” lol

As for how i felt about Jacob imprinting on her, i thought it was sweet. I had always said that Jacob was only ment for Bella, so it would either be Bella or no one. So when Nessie was born and Jacob imprinted on her i was happy cause it was like Jacob did end up with Bella in a way, its just baby Bella lol

  13. Jamie says:

I was mad at first when Jacob imprinted on Nessie, just because I thought it was so weird. But once I got used to the idea I sort of liked it. Jacob not only gets to be with the girl he was in love with, but also her mixed species offspring who he is destined to be with. Earlier in the Jacob book, Jacob wonders why Bella had to be pregnant, why she had to end up with Edward and leave Jacob in the dust. After reading the book again I caught that part and thought it was perfect, because if those things hadn’t happened Jacob wouldn’t have his imprint. I think Nessie will be perfect for Jacob.

As for when I figured it out, I, like Kassie, didn’t realized that Jacob had imprinted at first. But everyone else I was reading it with at the time did, so they ruined it for me. I think I didn’t realize it because I was so caught up in the book and wasn’t paying too much attention. Not to mention it was 3 AM.

Love the podcasts, can’t wait for this weeks!

  14. Lora says:

Kassie, I sorta feel you on the imprinting thing. I read it and actually screamed out loud: “OH MY GOD! DID WHAT I THINK JUST HAPPENED REALLY HAPPEN?” (I felt silly afterwards because I was at home, by myself. My dog was sleeping next to me and I scared her when I screamed. I felt so bad!) I had to reread the last two pages of Jacob’s book about 5 times before my brain could actually absorb that he imprinted. Then I remembered Stephenie Meyer talks about the process in New Moon when Jacob tells Bella about Quil’s imprinting on Claire. He tells her it’s like gravity shifts or something along those lines. Still, I couldn’t believe it happened.

Once my brain made sense of the information I wasn’t freaked out that Jacob imprinted on Renesme. I felt like she took all of Bella’s love for Jacob and left Bella with only her love for Edward. Bella never has to regret how much she hurt Jacob. Even though it wasn’t a pretty journey there was a beautiful conclusion filled with hope and promise. Marriage isn’t an end and neither is having children – they are both beginnings. The journeys may not always be perfect but in the end they are worth it. Even though I wanted Bella and Edward together, I’ve always had a soft spot for Jacob. I wanted him to have some happiness of his own. I’m glad Stephenie Meyer gave allowed that to happen!

(P.S. I LOVED Sissy’s correlation to Peter Pan. It totally fits! Jacob is a boy who won’t ever grow up. Unless he chooses to stop changing into a wolf, and since we don’t know how long Nessie will live that could end up as a possibility! Way to go Sissy!)

  15. Mariana Pattinson says:

When I found out that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee I was in total shock, while reading I had my mouth open the whole time, I think that its cute, I mean Jacob clearly can’t have Bella, and what better way than to imprint on Bella’s daughter although I was kinda confused because Renesmee is Half vampire and half human and Jacob is a warewolf…so I wasnt so sure how it woulda worked out but after finishing the book I have nothing but admiration for Jacob and I can’t help but smile when everyone gets along!

I agree with Kassie, I didn’t know that Jacob had imprinted on Renesmee at that last page. I thought he had just realized that he saw Bella in her, therefore, he was restrained from killing her. Not to mention that I was still caught up with Bella, upstairs because I kept thinking she was gonna die! =[ and I was reading so fast that couldn’t help but think what was gonna happen next, so I wasnt paying attention to what Jacob was saying, and later I did realize that he imprinted on Renesmee.

  16. Ana C. says:

I Think is was really weird at first, because she’s a baby, and it felt like he,Jacob, wanted to kill her because he tought he was loosing Bella, and sudelly, he imprinted on her. But later, after review the point, I start to realize that was something that make sense, because Bella always felt that she had a connection with him, and it was like this connection was passed through her daughter, she leave an inheritance to Nessie, like there was some kind of thing on her body that passed to Nessie, and that thing was the connection with Jacob. I know that sounds kind of weird, and I’m triping here, so I’m gonna stop.
I only realized that he imprited on her because I saw a spoiler. I’m from Brazil, and the book was on internet, but some people read first than me, and when I finished the Jacob’s book I started to think “What the heck” then someone put on spoiler that Jacob imprited on Nessie, and I was totally chocked and I understand. I think Bella’s reaction was awesome, totally thinking like mother.
I love u girls, You gyus are awesome, totally love the podcast. Sory about the writing , not really good on English, but I did my best!!!!!!!!
    xoxo

  17. liz says:

After i found out bella was preg. i kinda figured that he would have to stick around for something. but i liked it it didnt bother me because he will be like a big brother before she grows up and it was kinda like quil and his little soul mate lol. but i didnt mind it. i kinda expected it. or he would imprint on someone unexpected. because we all know that stephanie has a awesome sick twisted mind lol

  18. Lucia says:

When Jake imprinted on Bella’s daughter, I almost lost it. How can a werewolf imprint on something he detests so very much?! Werewolves and vampires are supposed to be mortal enemies!
I felt it was too convenient, getting Jacob out of the picture like that…
As for when I figured it out, it was at the end of the chapter when he saw Renesme for the first time!

  19. Kayla (HP Rocks) says:

I love them together. Nessie (kind of hate the name however) is my second favorite female character (after ALICE!) and Jacob is tied for second favorite male (JASPER is first). I finally understand imprinting, it isn’t creepy any more. I really want to know the rest of their story. I know he imprinted at the end of his book. Some people (not here, I think) are saying that it isn’t fair for Jacob he had no choice. But, he found is true love (soulmate) why would he want any one else? In my mind when you truly love someone you lose yourself and are living for someone else. They are cute together he is protective but, not too much. It takes away Bella’s guilt and that is why they had that connection maybe. Even before she was pregnant. When she was pregnant she want him around because Nessie wanted him. I think she understands what he is/going to be to her. A piece of Bella was meant for Jacob, Nessie was always in Bella! Team Switzerland wins!! (kind of but, shh!)

  20. Melissa says:

I thought him imprinting on Renesme was an awesome twist. I never saw that coming! I thought it really helped make the story, i thought it was absolutely perfect. And i figured it out right when it happened. It was extremely obvious.

  21. Katie says:

I love that Jacob imprinted on Nessie. Stephanie explains imprinting so well in Breaking Dawn and really shows the reader that Nessie means the world to Jacob but not in a perverse way. She shows us that Jacob is more of and older brother to nessie and not some creepy man in love with a little kid. It’s seemed like alot of people had a problem with Quil imprinting on Claire ,but it was a good idea because it prepared us for Jacob and Nessie. I also like it because it now ties Jacob to Bella forever but in the way that bella always wanted, like family. I always liked Jacob (thought i’m fully team Edward) I’m glad that he has a future in all of the vampires live.

Don’t worry Kassie your not alone I didn’t realize at the end of the book of jacob that he had imprinted on Nessie. I was freaking out about Bella thinking finally she is gonna be a vampire and just trying to finish so I could get to the next Bella book, not to mention it was like 4 or 5 in the morning. I was thinking when he was describing the strings being attached to him coming from Nessie that maybe this was Nessie’s power as a half vamp, like she was able to hold someone in place and immobalize them. I started to realize when Jacob was testing bella to resist his blood when she first became a vampire after her first hunt and she was wondering why he was still there and why was he worried about Nessie.Still I was dense and needed it fully spelled out for me and when Bella was describing how jacob was looking at Nessie (Like a blind man seeing the sun for the first time) it clicked. I freaked at first but then it just made perfect sence. I love the nickname you guys came up with “Jassie” it’s so cute! Can’t wait for your next podcast!

  22. melanie says:

i absolutely loved that jacob imprinted on renesmee. At first i was kind of mad but then i thought about it realized that what jacob had done kind of made it so it put closure towards him liking bella in the way that he did for such a long time. Like jacob said; “now he can love bell the RIGHT way.” i thought it was great and really loved that he said that. and sorry for asking this and this has nothing to do with this whole jacob nessie thing but what was the song called on week #29 and who was it by? i really liked it and can’t find it so if you could please tell me that would be great! thanks! oh and i love your guys’ podcast! its wonderful and keep it up! =)

  23. Jes=P says:

I thought Jacob and Renesme was going to happen, and it did which was great, but i didnt like how Jacob completly changed to overprotective i understand its because of the imprinting and all but it was like he was a completly different charecter. [Cant stand Nessie still have to call her Renesme] All in all im still Team Jacob, I liked him better when he liked Renesme and before his chapter in Breaking Dawn.

I just have to say, I have the best theory ever, you know how Stephenie is saying that she is no longer going wrtie any more books in the perspective of Bella, and she is only going to write Midnight Sun in Edwards perspective… WELL I thinK Stephenie will continue with the series BUT IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF…. Jacob and Renesme =D I came up with this at the end of Breaking Dawn when at the VERY END you find out they arnt werewolfs but shape shifters and how she introduced Bellas new power, and Renesme in general. So can anyone else see what im talking about?? It all fits…

    Xx J

  24. Justine says:

Uhh, NO!! Its WEIRD and CREEPY! Jacob is suppose to be in love with Bella and not with Bella and Edward’s daughter!

  25. RyRy (Ryan) says:

I think it’s awesome! I mean it’s not like he sees it as romantic, not at all, so it’s not creepy! (stop flipping out!) And i figured out he’d imprinted when it said that Jake didn’t feel any pull to Bella’s body, even though Edward said she wasn’t dead. also because he said he felt the pull downstairs where Rosalie had taken Nessie…mysterious! i probably would have figured it out earlier, but i was reading it at 5:00am, after being awake for 36 hours straight!
    -RyRy

  26. Ray says:

I think it’s cute that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee. I mean, i will admit, when i first read it, i was kinda angry (with the whole pregnancy) but i’ve grown to love Renesmee. The fact that Jacob will wait for Renesmee as long as needed to so sweet and romantic to me. Now to be totally honest, I’m neither team Edward, Team Jacob or Team Switzerland. I am Team Emmalie (Emmett and Rosalie) i don’t know why but Emmett and Rosalie are my favorite Characters and my fav couple. I did want Bella to be married to Edward and be turned into a vampire tho. lol. I didn’t realize he imprinted on her until Bella announced it. I did read the end and i honesty don’t know what my mind was thinking but it wasn’t that. lol. i thought something else happened.

  27. Ray says:

btw, i do love the fanart

  28. Brianca says:

When I found out Jacob had imprinted on Nessie I was sooo mad at first, like Bella. It was so weird because of all people it had to be Bella and Edward’s child(his love and his enemy). But then I thought about it and i realized that now Jacob would be able to be in Bella’s life without him feeling jealous over Bella and Edward’s relationship. I realized he imprinted when he was trying to test Bella’s ability to control herself before she saw Nessie… I was like why is he doing this? Because unprinted Jacob wouldn’t have cared so i put it together and a lightbulb went off in my head. Yeah it made me really, really angry at first and for a while it kind of ruined the book for me, but then i did so the positive part of his imprint and now i am satisfied with it.

  29. Michelle says:

I think it’s pretty cool that Jacob imprinted on Renesme. He finally got his happy ending, and she’s the closest girl he’ll ever get to Bella. However, his personality did change once he did imprint. He was less sarcastic and much more protective.

I figured out Jacob imprinted in book 3! It was on page 400, when Jacob was mentioned by Bella and Edward was sort of hesitant when speaking about him. I didn’t understand why, so I looked back to when he last spoke at the end of book 2. Then it all clicked in my head, and I realized he had imprinted.

  30. Micah [Me~ca] says:

I found it very comforting because if you all remember when Edward lent Jacob his car, Jacob went to a park and tried to find a girl to imprint on but instead he kept on finding little things about Bella in each girl and became more determined he loved Bella and will never find someone remotely like her. I think that it was just right that in the end he ended up with Nessie because she is partly Bella and since Nessie is Edward’s daughter too, Edward and Jacob will have that unspoken bond once again because they both love the same person unconditionally just like they did Bella.

At first it didn’t hit me that Jacob had imprinted on Nessie because my first reaction was “Omagosh she must have a superpower!” that stopped people from hurting her physically (like Bella mentally even when she was human at the time). I only started noticing something was weirdly up when Edward was truly bitter to Jacob and Jacob always hovering around Nessie.

There is nothing wrong with Nessie because don’t forget Bella is a nicknmae for Isabella so get used to it.

    Awsome Podcast!
Kassie You Make Me Laugh Like No Other Xx

  31. Janie says:

Honestly, it was a little awkward at first. Though I’m sure most people thought of it that way because Renesmee was so young (an infant for crying out loud!), I quickly skipped over that aspect simply based on the explanation we’ve already heard concerning a similar situation. No, what made it awkward was the fact that it was BELLA’s daughter, the one he had fallen head-over-heels for in the earlier books. It just felt wrong, and (dare I say) creepy. But, as the book went on, I began to see more how Jacob interacted with both Renesmee and Bella, and gradually got used to it. I think it helped greatly that he wasn’t showing ANY kind of romantic interest toward Bella after imprinting.

As for when I figured out Jacob imprinted on her, it was when he was talking about the “strings of his life” being cut loose, when gravity pulled toward Renesmee. At that point, I was like, “Holy shite! He imprinted on Bella’s daughter!” Yeah. Totally DIDN’T see that one coming.

  32. Angie says:

I didn’t have a problem with the imprinting. Since I knew from the other books that by imprinting on a baby it just means that he’ll watch out for her until an “appropriate” time. I knew that he wasn’t thinking she was hot or anything, he just had love and respect for her, like an uncle or brother might. When I read about it I was so excited. I was thinking to myself “No way, No way! This is so crazy!” But I don’t have any issues with it. I did figure out that he’d imprinted when it was described at the end of Jacobs chapter BUT I wanted to add something. I feel bad that Kassie found out that way. I know that she isn’t the only person who didn’t realize that was what had happened. My friend also was taken by surprise when she found out, not realizing that he had been describing the imprint. I also wanted to mention, most of us have read each of the books several times, and by doing so we retain a lot of the simple explanations throughout, like what exactly imprinting is ( I believe there is an explanation of imprinting, that seems or feels similar in book 3) Kassie hasn’t read each one a gazillion times, and so that could be why it didn’t immediately click! I’m sorry it got spoiled for you! I really felt for you about that. However, by answering questions of the week, I bet it would have been spoiled at that point, so please don’t be mad for too long, we love ya! Love you guys!

  33. Morgan Cullen xD says:

From the beginning I knew Jacob was going to imprint on someone. To be honest I was one of the “Jacob + Tanya” Theory people. I Had no problem with the imprinting…It had to be done. I though it was quite cute actually! How he went out to find someone in Edwards volvo then coming back when the baby has come and imprinting on it. I didn’t actually mnow until my friend pointed it out to me! But also seeing as we know its possible that a older warewolf can imprint on a baby (Quil & Claire) It might work out! I hope that she writes books from Jacobs perspective continuing the love between Jacob & Renesmee (Even though im a diehard Team Edward!)

    hahaha

anyway keep up the great work!

    Morgan

  34. Shorty says:

I was actually surprised when Jacon imprinted on Renesme…it was pretty much the last thing i expected. I was waay more shocked when i found out Bella was pregnant. I sat in silence for a very long time all by myself…i couldn’t sleep all night. Btw, i think reneseme is a nice name. But i’ve never really liked Jacob-he’s so desperate. I also expected Bella to have a more awsome-er talent and the book should of had more action. It’s good that jacobs finally got over Bella but i wish he could have found someone else. But anyway i would of liked to know what happens throught their relationship and what happens to everyone else. The whole series shouldn’t of ended so soon! I really wanted to see how Renesme turned out with Jacob and although i dont like thier relationship..i justed wanted to know if anything could have changed. There should be more books!

  35. sasha_UK says:

i don’t think that SM wanted us to realize immediately that Jacob imprints. i think that its meant to be a real cliffhanger and make us go “OMG WHAT WAS THAT???” or something similar. its meant to make you want to read on to explain whats just happened. thats why she immediately changes subject in the next chapter so that we’re still left reeling from whats just happened to jacob. later on we realise or at least confirmed (along with bella) that hes imprinted. but i dont think SM specifically wanted us to work it out at that first moment, i think she wanted us to question it and leaving it as a cliffhanger.

personally i knew before id even read it that he was going to imprint cos of my best mate texted me saying “OMG J IMPRINTS ON THE KID!!!!” which i then replied “OMG I HAVENT GOT THERE YET YOU IDIOT!! SHUT UP!!!”
but i do feel that Jacob needed to stay in bellas’ life some way or another and yet not be awkward anymore. and if imprinting on nessie was the only way to do that then so be it. i think when shes 18 or looks that way or whenever, it’ll be awkward but by then jacob shudve gotten over bella (or i hope so) so thatll be cool. and they’ll all be happy families =]

the imprinting made me warm to jacob alot more as i lways saw him as quite immature and almost tagging along with bella (which really annoyed me after my friend read the books and loved jacob, hated bella and was unsure about edward i was like WHATTT?????) but anyways i think this book made me understand jacob a lot more and nessie came in his life the moment when he needed her the most as once the kid had been born he’d decided to leave and just go off on his own(maybe with leah) and that would have been a crap and flimsy ending for jacob and so imprinting on nessie was exactly the right way to keep him close to home and yet not be as awkward

i think the whole of breaking dawn included and answered everything that was needed to be (especially resolving the whole edward bellla jacob triangle) but i still feel like i was left wanting more at the end like an epilogue 7 years time when everything sorted out and its normal life i would have liked to see that really =]

sorry its so long – but im finished ranting now =P
    love the book
    love the podcasts
    keep up the good work
    =]

  36. em s says:

ok, i gotta be honest, I HAD NO IDEA!! i seriously must be the most unobservant person in the world coz i seriously didn’t think that he’d imprinted on nessie till bella finds out. oops! i gotta start working on by observation skills. but seriously, i don’t like how he imprinted on her. coz he changes, he’s lyk, all maternal an not the carefree immature jake anymore. and i loved jake like that but now he’s, well he’s just a pain, isn’t he! it bugs me how he wouldn’t let bella see her daughter till she passed his little test, and he never wants 2 share nessie, even with her parents!
it’ll be better when nessies grown up an he can be himself again around her. then it’ll be cute, especially if he has to fight off that other half-vampire guy. that’ll be funny, i hope stephanie writes about that.

  37. Chance Frerichs says:

when jake imprinted on Renesmee i was shocked at first then i thought “yay!!!! now jake can be happy and Edward and Bella can be together.” the way Stephenie described when Jake imprinted is how i figured it out. they way she described it as being held to the earth like a balloon by a string then when he saw her it wasn’t the string it was a million steel cables.

  38. The Twihard says:

    Love the nickname.

I love that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee (I like her real name better), I mean, we don’t have to worry about who she will pick later, and I’m so happy that Jacob found someone and he’s able to be with Bella at the same time.

I figured out that he would imprint on Renesmee a right when he looked at her when Rosalie picked Renesmee up, at the end of the chapter.

  39. Katie says:

I was shocked at first, for about 10 seconds, then I was furious, another 10 seconds, then I realized that this meant that even though Bella was a vampire now and Jacob still loved her, they could still be together in peace. Renesmee is sorta like their bow tie; she holds them together.
I figured it out when Edward told Bella that she would be enraged with Jacob after she heard what happened. I sorta felt bad for Jacob because everyone was hating on him, but it was kinda sick to me before I realized what it meant. All in all though, I’m glad that Jake found someone that isn’t Bella.

And…… isn’t imprinting supposed to be rare??

  40. Karen says:

Jacob imprinting on Renesmee was necessary to the story, I think. It was only possible as part of Jacob’s progression from “mortal enemies” to allies for a common cause, through both Jacob and Edward wanting only what’s best for Bella, to make her happy. Through the constant contact with the Cullens, Jacob comes to know them as “people” and has some grudging respect for Edward. When it comes down to the crunch, Jacob gives his permission to Edward and actually assists Edward in changing Bella. He was the only one who could. Although it seemed strange as it happened, I accepted it much as Edward and Bella did, as ultimately the right thing, considering the circumstances. It is also beautiful that people can move past the “us and them” with some time and exposure. Bella has bridged the gap between the Quileutes and the Cullens, as well as the humans in Forks and the Cullens.

Personally, and don’t hate me for my opinion, I didn’t like it. Don’t get me wrong, I love Nessie and Jacob to death, and I think it’s good that he found someone, but really? I’m mean, Jacob’s former love’s daughter? How awkward are the family reunions going to be? I suppose it’s good that Quil imprinted on Claire, to get us used to the idea of imprinting on a baby, but still, I think it’s just weird.

I figured out he imprinted when he came downstairs after helping Edward deliever Nessie and she was with Rosalie and he said something like “She was the center of the universe” or “She was holding me here.” I forget what it was, but in New Moon, that was exactly how Jacob described imprinting.

I figured out that Jacob was going to imprint on Nessie when he no longer felt a pull to Bella, but something was pulling him downstairs. All those hints about Bella being that happiest person on Christmas gave it away for me when she was still pregnant.

As to how I feel about it, at this point in the book I figured that it was not as impossible vampires having babies. There had to be a reason SM had Quil imprint on Claire. She had to get us used to the idea that a 17 year old could love a baby and not think dirty until the baby was old enough.

Remember, this is my opinion, so many of you may not like it, or agree with it, but you don’t have to…..

So, I’ve ALWAYS been a huge Jacob fan. I know that people who didn’t like Jacob that much, started liking him now…but I started disliking him, in this book. (The whole book of Breaking Dawn) He seemed a lot more snottier, to me. I know that the main thing is about Jassie, but I think that it is important to include the way Jacob acted, throughout the whole thing. When we first found out, through Bella’s view, I was so mad, I literaly threw my book…and I’m sorry that I did, because some of the pages are bent, but as Kallie would say, moving right along…And I am mad that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee, because even when she was older, it didn’t seem right…And I am VERY mad at Bella for trusting him, with her, if she and Edward was to die…

But I LOVED the fanart, by Nehvah!

Btw, thanks for having the podcast come out on August 20, because that was my birthday, and that was the best birthday gift I got!

I am a little slow – I did not figure it out until Bella did and screamed it at Jacob!! I of course loved the part when she yelled at him about nicknaming her baby after the Loch Ness Monster. When I first figured it out – I threw the book down & screamed. I was not happy. I still was not over the whole vampire baby thing and to me this just made it worse. My first thoughts were that Jacob would never be free to live his own life away from the vamps and that Bella & Edward would never be free of Jacob. As I read on, I began to love the relationship. Without going into detail – with all of what happens at the end, Jacob & Renesme’s relationship ended up being perfect. The bond that the relationship created between the wolves & vampires made them all stronger and it certainly showed at the end. Also, knowing that Jacob will be happy and that Renesme will always be safe is very comforting to know. I was very happy about everything by the time the book was over. I am really hoping that SM writes more about Jacob & Renesme. I think there would be a great story line there with the whole wolf/half human/vamp relationship. I also think the Volturi could come into play again.

All in all, i thought it was a very good book. I was team Jabob all the way so i’m glad he’s happy now and that he still loves (imprinted) a part of bella.. The thing that i like less though was that I didn’t feel the same bond for Nessie than the other caracters.. I don’t know why.. Don’t get me wrong, i liked her.. but maybe because she’s a baby and because of this, she can’t have her proper personnality yet but i would have liked to be more intruduced with her caracter. And I hope that in her futur, she will have a nice personnality that fits Jacob πŸ˜›

Is it just me or the name Renesmee is kind of weird ?? I REALLY think (yasshhh!) when she said the names of her babies. Even EJ would have been bad. I understand that its her grand parents name put in one but i thought it was a little cheezy.. I would have liked better an exotic kind of name like the other vampires.

When i finish the book, i thought.. ouhhh there’s gonna be another one yeah !! I’m sure that Stephanie is going to write the end of the volturi someday. And i’m really glad πŸ˜› Maybe from the perspective of Renesmee… That would help knowing and loving her much πŸ˜€

OK I’m thinking it’s odd that no one has commented on the fact that imprinting was described exactly like this already. So yes I knew what had happened first clue was the heat of glowing and not fury. Next clue being held to earth by the strings… It was described by Jacob to Bella just like this when he was trying to explain Quil & Claire’s relationship and how platonic but strong imprinting could be. I can’t give an exact quote as I loaned out my books once I got my Twilight cravings covered and had read Breaking Dawn twice πŸ™‚ but I specifically remembered Jacob saying how it wasn’t love exactly but gravity moves and suddenly she’s the one holding you here not your family not earth not anything but her.

how do I feel about it… I like it because you know his thoughts (because of Edward & how vocal Jake is) & it’s very clear that he just wants whats best for her. ( I love when he’s shocked at Bella’s comment about the son in law situation He has the same reaction again later on at some other comment of Jake and Renesemee together someday.) So yes I like it and I like him because of it because suddenly he’s cool with Bella & Edward and she’s cool with Jake.

… by the way I’ve called him Jake in my head for a long time.. I can’t check but didn’t Bella call him Jake in New Moon and/or Twilight?

I figured out that Jacob imprinted on that last page in Jacobs Book. At first i didnt know what to think. It was soo werid but yet so perfect all in one. I didnt really worry about it too much cause I knew it would all work out end the end so my weridness soon went away when I started to think about the whole Quil and Claire thing.
I remember reading in Eclipse that part when Jacob says Quil imprinted on a 2 year old. For me somehow, I wasnt werided out by it because before I read on I knew Jacob was going to say something like “He will be the best uncle until shes ready”. Dont ask me how I knew that it was just my insticts where telling me that. So then this whole thing with Jake hit and I realized that I was prepared for it.
I know that some people hated the whole Quil and Claire thing but if you think about it, it was preparing us for the real shocker, Jacob and Renesmee.
So my personal opinion thinks that this was always there its just none of us looked hard enough and that it is perfect for a new storyline… SUNRISE could be the first one in little Nessie POV maybe……. ooohhh I like that!!

(Sorry ladies this first part goes with last weeks discussion, but is relevant)
I too was shocked by the pregnancy, but I had figured it out before Bella did. The eggs and strange dreams gave it away. Since Stephenie had said vampires could not have babies, I was not however completely sure I had drawn the right conclusion. I remember pausing for a moment after Bella’s realization and trying to think it through. What SM said was that ‘Vampires’ could not have babies, Bella was not a vampire, so why not!! Remember she is a writer and semantics is a gift she has! A perfect, unexpected plot twist!! I wasn’t convinced I liked the idea at first. But I also knew immediately that it was going to be a girl. Too many boy references . However I did NOT expect the imprinting, although I realized as I was reading it what was happening. That didn’t stop me too from vocally expressing my disbelief in what had just happened. I proceeded to reread the passage again to be sure I had not misunderstood!! I had stopped reading at this point to get some sleep, but I thought of nothing else the next day. It was a very productive day at work….yeah right. After spending time thinking about the story SM was trying weave, the whole thing makes sense in retrospect, at least to me. It explains the reasons why Bella and Jacob have always been drawn to each other. Why they were never able to separate completely from each others lives. For me the reason and the way Bella loved Jacob is clear now. She loved him as family, which he was destined to become. And Jacobs immaturity and inexperience at not being able to reccognise the kind love that he was feeling in some ways negates the wierdness that could happen in the future. Once the characters accepted the reality of the situation and could see the bigger picture so to speak. Of course Jacob loves/loved Bella. There is no denying that fact. But in a way Jacobs draw to Bella was somewhat miss directed. Call it the hands of fate interviening, call it a higher power at work, say someone else was pulling the strings. But it is clear that this was the way it was always supposed to be. They were destined to always be in each others lives. Fate just made sure they didn’t waver from that path.
One comment to think about on the potential “uncomfortable” situation in the future with Jacob/Bella/Nessie. There are families who have experienced this same kind of situation. Sisters who have both dated the same guys?! Of course it would be strange for awhile, but eventually it would not be an issue anymore.
Also remember everyone that SM has said that when a imprinting occurs, the wolf who imprinted becomes what ever that imprintee needs. And as the needs change, the imprinter changes to accomodate the needs. Jacob would not be having any innappropriate thoughts about Nessie. When SHE is at that point in her maturity, then and only then, will Jacob see her in that light. This is how I translate imprinting as described by SM. In hind sight think that the Quil/Claire imprint was to prepare the readers for what was to come. Imagine if we had not seen a wolf imprint on anyone so young before Jacob and Nessie (I think Nessie is just fine as a nickname!! Although I understand Bellas perspective.). What would everyone have thought of the imprinting then!!!
I think one of the best parts of reading a series like this is to go back at the end of it and reread all the clues and details that were there all along and meant nothing, but now mean EVERYTHING!!! We love your work Stephenie! Take a much deserved break, but keep it up! πŸ™‚

I love everything about this book. I think its hilarious that all the podcasts and theories I read were all wrong, and that BD went in directions that no one saw coming. So it didn’t surprise me that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee. I figured it out when Jacob didn’t feel anything for Bella any more and felt the pulling from down stairs.
