What do you think?

Oct 18th, 2008 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Question of the Week

This week we want you to speculate about yourselves!  Our question of the week is…

What do you think will happen to the fandom after the Twilight movie is released?

I hope you guys will take the time to really think about the question, and how YOU might proceed after the movie, as well as the fandom as a whole!

  1. Twilighter says:

And I also think that Stephenie will continue with more Twilight stuff so LONG LIVE TWILIGHT !!!!!

  2. Meg says:

I think that it will go alot higher cuz people will see the movie and want to read the books. That happrns with alot of books after their movie is made.
    Meg^_^

  3. Lauren says:

After Twilight comes out, I hope there are new twi-hards who decide the movie is so awesome that they have to read the books. I also hope that the opening weekend numbers are so high that Summit immediately decides to make New Moon. I personally plan to see the movie multiple times to help out our favorite vampires (and the actors who play them). If New Moon gets filmed, I really hope that MTV has New Moon Monday because that would be a fantastic way to start the week. Bottom Line: I loved the interviews and pictures all year, and another year of the same would awesome. The only downfall is that a new Twilight book won’t be rocking our summer – unless Midnight Sun was published. (A girl can dream.)

  4. Alice says:

I personally, right now, have about a good 25 percent of my life obbsessed with Twilight and getting other people also into the books… I will see the movie (about 300,000 times) then i think that after a few months i will become a little less crazy, but will continue to keep reading the books and supporting the AMAZING author of the saga. I think that the already insane fanbase of Twilight will explode all over the world, and the books will become even MORE popular…. Almost like the movie will be a trailer for people to want to go read the book! Then, as soon as everything starts to go back to normal for the population of earth… summit entertainment will be like… and now we have started filming New Moon to come out late 2009 or 2010 and the insaness will start all over again!!!!!!!!! (hopefully in there Stephenie decides to continue Midnight Sun because it was beyond words it was soooo good!)

  5. Christina says:

Well, I’m going to pretty much read Twilight fan fiction and tlk about the books with my friends… I’ll also make plans with some people to go see the New Moon movie, and talk to them about how good the movies after Twilight will be… OH! And if they’re planning on NOT making a Breaking Dawn movie… start a petition against that 🙂

  6. Simran says:

I think that the fan base is going to grow exponentially because after the movie releases, everyone who saw it is going to love it (of course!) and then all of the people who had read the books will drag thier other friends to the movie, and when the non twilight fans see the movie, they are going to be intriged and want to read the books, and it will just keep getting better as time goes on. I definitely think there is soo much left to be discussed and depicted so there will definitely be a huge fandom.

  7. Simran says:

I also believe that the movies will be filming for the next 7 years maybe depending on how many spin-off books are published and if they can crank these babies out in a year. So there is plenty of time for the “twilight” name to be in the media and given attention

  8. Des says:

I will continue to check the weather in Forks when I’m watching the Weather Cahnnel
I will continue to pray that Stephanie Meyer will publish Midnight Sun
I will continue to re-read my favorite parts of each book on a regular basis

  9. Des says:

    Channel…sorry about the typo

  10. Nikki C says:

    hmm… what a good question…
after some serious thought, i have decided that the twilight fandom will stay around the same number (if not decrease) but will shift completely. some twilighters i know are NOT planning on seeing the movie because they dont want to ruin the books, but i have a feeling that all of us book fanatics who see the movie are going to be somewhat disappointed. i think that the twilight fandom will switch from book lovers to mainly people who are now fans based strictly off the movie (some book readers will be included). so there will still be around the same number of fans, but most of the fans will be people who saw the movie before picking up the book. sorry this has been kinda long… love love love the podcast!

    -future book AND movie lover

  11. Brandi says:

Such a good question……… I think that the twilight fandom will increase. Those people who have not yet read the books will go see the movie and want to know more so they will go out and read the books. They will then fall in love with the books as much as we have and will increase the fandom.
Having said that, i thnk there are going to be a lot of mixed emotions from the current fandom simply because no matter what the movie is nevr going to be perfect for everyone. We all have our own mental pictures and thoughts about how things sould look or be played out. All of the current twilighters will support the movie though because we loke the books so much and we would be devestated if the movie should fail. Come on, we all can’t get enough and want all the books to be made into movies.

  12. Danielle F. says:

What happens to the twilight fandom after the movie really depends on how well the movie does.
if the movie is amazing and it makes A LOT of money well there will be A LOT of new poeple in the twilighter world,
now the down side (that we all don’t want)
If the movie does bad in making money, doesn’t matter if it’s the best movie ever, most likley the twilighter universe will stay the same.

Then the worst part…. if the movie turns out like the Prince and Me, (my favorite movie)
The Prince and Me, if you ask me is the best movie ever, but it didn’t make enough money to make a sequal so they hired actors that cost less changing who played almost everyone and realesed it on DVD. if this happens to Twilight the Twilight universe will shrink………..AHHHHHH just thinking about it makes me sad.

  13. Teri says:

I think the fandom will grow after the movie is released. It’ll bring in new fans, and us old fans (old as in those who have already read the books, not as in age, lol) will have something to talk about for a while. New fans will start reading the books and finding podcasts to keep them preoccupied. However, I think the “old” fans will, well, dare I say it…get bored. We’ll just be waiting for the next movie, seeing that Stephenie has “indefinitely” put Midnight Sun on hold. I’ll admit, I loved the series, but the excitement has already started to die down for me. I’m really excited about the movie, but once the movie comes out, I feel like their won’t be much to do with the Twilight fandom. And I hate to say this because I know a lot of Twilight fans get really upset about this, but I’m going to say it anyway. One reason that I’m not as excited about the fandom any more is because of what Stephenie is doing with Midnight Sun. I felt that her deciding to discontinue with the writing was just really immature. With the level of success she has had, she needs to realize that sometimes bad things happen and you can’t do anything about it. I understand that it’s upsetting, but you need to be tough enough to not let it get to you and make you want to give up, which is exactly what it seems like Stephenie did when she claimed that she couldn’t write with the mood she was in. It just made her seem like an amateur writer who couldn’t handle the pressures of reaching such a high level of success. Huge spoilers in the Harry Potter series were always leaked before the books came out, and the entire seventh book was leaked before it came out…and Harry Potter is waaaaayyyyy bigger than Twilight, but J.K. Rowling didn’t decide to let her fans down and indefinitely hold off the releases. I think Stephenie Meyer overreacted, and that was just incredibly unflattering to me. So, I can’t speak for the whole fandom, but I personally am only looking forward to the movies, since I don’t see Midnight Sun in the near future, I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for it. So once the movie comes out, I’ll stick around for movie discussion, then I’ll probably be on haitus until/if additional movies are made.

  14. Jacob's Girl says:

I think that after the Twilight movie premiers, Stephenie Meyers will be wringing in some new fans. The movie is said to be the most anticipated movie to hit the theaters all year. So, a bajillion people are bound to see it. And because of what has happened with all of the Harry Potter books/movies, Summit will most likely make more and more of the Twilight books into brilliant movies. As more and more people come to see Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn come to life, those people will start reading the books. Then, once Stephenie Meyers sees all the comotion, she will right more books. Now, I dont think that all of them will be about the vampire/werewolf/mortal action romance types, but other interesting subjects. If she comes out with new books, I know that I will read them. This is just what I think, but then more and more people will read all of Steph’s books, and she will be more famous than ever.

  15. mo says:

After the movie i think the fandom will dwindle a little bit because before the movie and breaking dawn came out we were kinda bored and content i guess, but now that we know that the movies coming out we are all excited but after we will have nothing to be excited about soooooooooooooo yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i guess thats what i have to say…..

Also i dont see how they could do oother movies with jacob growing and renesmee (spelling?). i think it would be a much better movie and help twilight more if they only did the first book as a movie

  16. Shannon Cullen says:

I think after the movie is released the fandom will dwindle a little. It will still be pretty big but maybe not as much. The movie brought on a big hype and when it’s over the fandom may not be as big. If they make a second one the fandom may pick up again too. I so hope they make a second one though. That would be awesome.

I am sort of wondering about what they will do when the characters change because they are not suposed to change so that might make it hard to make more movies.

  17. Leslie says:

    Hey Girls!
I think that a lot of new fans will be gained because they see the movie and want to read the books. Also there will be another movie after this (hopefully!!) and people will want to hear about that. If there is not another movie after this than there will not be as much to look forward to. Anyway fans will still love the books and stay loyal to Stephenie Meyers. i just think there will be less hype to if they only do one movie!
Thanks and I totally heart your podcast!

PS Do you guys think there will be another movie?

  18. Rachel Coe says:

I think that after the movie is released, the Twilighter fandom wil expand if the movie becomes a hit. If it doesn’t become a hit, then i believe that it would make people who haven’t read the books yet want to read them. Also, i think that the Twilight fandom will quiet down in terms of talk and new things going on. If people like the movie, then i would think that they would go buy the book, creating more and new fans of the book series, and making Stephenie Meyer more famous. But all of this depends on whether the movie is a hit or not. Keep doing a great job girls i absolutly love your podcast and it always puts a smile on my face!
    ~Rachel Coe

  19. Dannelle says:

I think that the movie may acquire more fans to the amazingly huge Twilight sensation! I am concerned, however, about the current fans. There are some negative comments about the new trailer out, and Twilighters are questioning whether or not they will like the movie. As said in the last podcast there are people not even going because they are afraid that they will be disappointed by the movie! I for one will be the first in line, and will love it regardless of its success. I hope that the fandom continues after Twilight and moves into New Moon, then Eclipse and finally Breaking Dawn; I think that Twilighters deserve to see the whole gig played out…if we all remember some people bashed Harry Potter and the Socerer’s Stone because Daniel Radcliffe “couldn’t act”, well, now it is a series of movies that grosses BILLIONS of dollars. I think that if Twilighters stick to their guns, support the actors and the fine people that helped with the movie and Stephenie Meyer the movies will be successful and we will see more people relish in our Twilight glow!!

    Dannelle

  20. Elizabeth Cullen says:

The Twilight fandom will spike and stay on a high buzz for weeks (months even) after the movie is released. People will be pumped for the dvd and any sequels. New fans will go read the books.
After a while, the all the crazy hype might die down some-like Harry Potter. However, there are fewer books to be made into movies, so it could last even after the movies have all been released.

Okay guys, one month till TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!11
    I’m so pumped!
    xoxo

  21. Cheryl says:

I can not imagine my life without Twilight. I only started reading them in June of this year and they have made a huge difference in my life. I re read my favorite parts on a daily basis and I’m re reading the draft of Midnight Sun. The movie is going to give me another “fix” so I know I’m going to be okay. There is no way I ever want this to stop! I just wish that Stephenie could continue with the series. Like she wanted to in the beginning with a lot of spin offs of other characters. No matter how well or how bad the movie will be, I will have to buy two DVD’s because I know that I will wear out one in no time. I’m obsessed with the characters and the stories in general. I heard they were already starting a screenplay for New Moon so I’m thinking the execs already know there are profits to be made. I’m just glad it’ll be a while before it’s completely over. Even then I don’t think I’ll give in. I hope they keep the cast as is, since the vampires aren’t supposed to age and the series is only about 2 years of stories, Bella shouldn’t get that old either. This series is different than the Harry Potter series because each book was a year long. There’s no way true obsessed fans will let this die off so quickly. I saw the trailer on the big screen this weekend before a movie in the trailers. Some of the guys in the theater were even like, “What is that about?” It’s action packed to get guys to go so I know we’ll be ok.

I’m a fan til my heart stops beating.

  22. Paige says:

I think the fandom will stay the same as before, but stronger. Everyone who loves Twilight will be even more excited after because instead of talking about Stephanie Meyer’s amazing book they will be pumped and excited, and talk about the new movie. Overall people will still like Twilight and will be even more excited for New Moon possibly coming to theaters. Stephanie has little talk on her website of there being a movie for New Moon and Eclipse. As we know from Harry Potter it will be even bigger than before.

  23. Anna says:

It’s going to change. The movie will bring more fans to the books, but how fans react to the movie is going to vary. Some fans will love it, because it will do at least a creditable job of portraying the book on screen, some fans will hate it because it won’t portray the book on screen like they visualized it, and a lot of fans will just love it because it’s Twilight.

Then you have the people who aren’t fans yet, or may never be. They will be reacting to the movie on it’s own. In several decades of watching movies I have seen very few that follow the book as closely as a fan would want. Unless the story was rewritten to match the movie ala Disney, but it’s difficult. Imagine taking several art students into a forest and telling them to represent it as it is. The photographer may come closest, but his image will be two dimensional, the sculptor will create a three dimensional effect, but it will be in his media (stone, clay, bronze, paper mache), and the painter will have his own viewpoint that he translates to canvas as well. Each project will not look the same to the person who took them there in the first place.

If you look at the Harry Potter Movies this situation is really clear, some of the book fans won’t watch the films after being disappointed. Many of the movie fans have never cracked any of the books and never intend to. The third group of fans read the books and watch the movies knowing that there will be differences and tolerating them. Yet, they are all Harry Potter Fans. Although there are some really different styles with the different directors they have had.

So it will be with Twilight. I just hope it does well enough that they complete the series in film format.

    Anna

  24. Tori says:

well shrivle up and die……… beacuse well run outta air cause the twilight movie well be so awsome we will forget to breath.

I really think well all just be really excited for the sequel movie and praying that stephenie makes midnight sun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. there NEEDS to be a petitons started of people who will not read midnight sun until it’s out! reading it online is not what was intended for the book. Some kind of petition would possibly put Stephenie in the mood to finish it!?!?!?!? I really want to read that book with an ending and a pretty cover on it. 🙁

  25. Kitzia says:

    Oh man !!
It’s hard to decide…..but I will cause you guys asked !!

The movie will make the fandom even more huge than it already is and book sales will rocket. If summit doesn’t come out with a sequel for the movie chances are, it I’ll die down some after the dvd release.

I think that I will try to stay with the fandom after the movie and dvd release. I just don’t see anything exciting coming out after that, unless there is a sequel. But ONE thing I WILL DO is read the books over again because there is always something new that I over read. Plus, I still have to collect all the twilight stuff !!!

  26. sarah fode says:

I think the fandom of twilight will increase. becasue i have read books that became movies and the fans with that made the books even bigger. but some people wouldnt even see it because their scared on how the movie is going to turn out. i know some people wouldnt even see it. but like i said before it will probably increase.
ive watched how the director Catherine Hardwicke made sure she got what the fans needed. i really like that in a director..

    love your podcast
    Sarah

  27. Victor says:

When the movie comes out the fandom will be bigger and bigger. Twilight’s fans are global and have touched not only young readers but adults alike. I’m from Puerto Rico and Twilight is huge here as well as in the rest of Latin America. So when you take into consideration the worldwide appeal, the box office is going to skyrocket, which will bring more people into the fandom . And will all the hype its getting and all the internet searches is bound to make an impact. Twilight is actually the 14th most searched movie on the internet according to IMDbPro’s movie meter, and its not even out yet. Twilight ranks higher than ‘Sex and the City: The Movie’, ‘The Incredible Hulk’, and even ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’.

    Thanks for the great podcast.

PS. Kassie’s got one sexy voice 😀

  28. Jamie Long says:

I think that there wil be alot of new fans, and some will go out and read the books and become part of this huge fandom, and others won’t read the books (which is sad, b/c the books are of course amazing LOL)

I’m kinda hesitant about seeing the movie only b/c i feel that the i’ll never be able to read the books without seeing everything from the movie. It’s like when I read the harry potter books, I only see the charatcers from the movie. Basically i feel like movies limit your imagination. I’ll still see the movie and hope for the best.

BTW: i love your podcast! <3

  29. Lisa says:

I think the buzz about the movie has brought new readers to the book. I read the book last year and could not talk any of my friends into reading them but their children read the books, so I discussed the book with the kids and anything new about the movie. Well finally one mom read the book and she read the first three within 4 days and has been a fan ever since. Now that the movie is nearing we have other moms that wanted to go to the movie with us but we told them they couldn’t until they read the book first. Now everytime we are at a school event the moms are discussing the books and it is a new craze where we live, so hopefully after the movie it will start a new buzz for those not familiar with the series but I will always love “Twilight” and look forward to the next book written by Stephenie Meyer (whatever it might be) and would still love to see the book from Edward’s view. I wanted more especially since she stopped right before the meadow scene. Checking Stephenie Meyer’s website daily has become part of my routine which I am not ready to give up.

  30. Bekah Gilmer says:

I think that after Twilight is released more people will want to go and read the books. Most of my friends who have read the book are super excited about the movie coming out and also my friends who haven’t read the book are excited about it. I have high expectations about the movie and I truely hope that the movie will do it justice. I love your podcast it is the best twilight podcast there is. I have heard all of them. Keep up the good work girls

  31. pheobe says:

    PLEASE DONT STOP THE PODCAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Elizabeth says:

I think the fandom will grow, because there will be people who havent read the books who will see the movie. As well as people who are just starting to read the books because of the movie. Not to compare Twilight to Harry Potter, but this same thing happend when those books became films. The fandom grew, wich is awesome. However, Im just alittle bit worried about how the new fans and the older fans will get along.

  33. laura h says:

you can already tell with all the hype around just the trailers that the movie is gonna explode the fandom. however I REALLY hope that all the old fans welcome the new fans as all good twilighters should! I’ve been part of many fandom worlds over the years and hate how sometimes you get this elitist atmosphere from some small sections of the fandoms spouting ‘well i’ve been a fan longer therefore i’m better’ types of words.

i have great hopes that the twilighters will buck this trend because in the end its all good to have more fangirls and fanboys to gush over the books and movie with!!! I’d be interested to see the differences in different locations. I’m a UK twilighter and wonder how the fandom reactions and changes will differ. From what I can judge the fandom is still kind of a word of mouth fan sharing thing at the moment but thats all gonna change!!! HOORAY

    love you guys!

  34. Jacky says:

    Hey girls!
    I really love the podcast!
    Keep up the great work!
Anyway, I think that the fandom will move on to another series as one whole. I think that we are so connected in one taste of books that a majority of the fandom will move on to obsess over another series. I really truly doubt that the fandom itself will disipate completely. Another series may come along and captivate us as Twilight did. Kinda like Twilight and Harry Potter.

The movie will hopefully be a huge success. I really hope it is. It will attract some new Twilight fans and maybe spark inspiration for a new saga? Who knows? Hopefully Steph picks up Midnight Sun soon so we can have a little more time drooling over Edward.
    ;p

Anyway, keep up the great work once again!
    -Jacky

  35. Sidney G says:

Hi Edward and Bella fans. If i heard this on your podcast then that would be the most amazing thing ever. Kallie and Kassie you guys both rock. I thought for a long time about my answer. I know that twilight will be better than harry potter and every other book series turned into a movie out there! I think every true twilight fan will just become 100% more devoted to the books . I think that people who are “NVE” (Non Vampire Educated) will be sucked into the world of romantic, beautiful, pale vampires (except for james, victois, and laurent, or course!) …. visious, non- self controlled burstiing were wolfs, and other make believe characters. In conclusion, i think the whole world of twilight lovers will al n=move to a whole new level of fandom. That is my answer to this question. I am sorry that it is so long, but I can not make my therioes short, just like you guys. Keep up the great work. Bye

P.S. If you read this on your podcast could you say Hi to Paige B. She is a true fan of twilight and you girls. We always talk about twilight together, so Hi Paige, its sid.

    Thanks, Bye

  36. Morgan B says:

Hey guys! Personally, i think that the fandom as of now (people who have read the books) will still hold strong, i mean even if the movie bombs (i hope not! if it does i might implode!) we will still have the fabulous books. AFTER the movie, I think chaos will insue. People will definately be going out to get the books and catch up on the epic romance. Even if Summit decides not to continue the series (which would be not the smartest decision in the world considering they will most likely be HUGE money makers), the fandom will definately grow because of the fans created with the movie. Some people just need a little kick such as a fabulously wonderful splendifourous movie to get them to read, and twilighiters, this will hopefully be it! For me- I will continue to read the books before i go to bed every night like the dedicated fan i am.

Go Twiight! and Twilight Series Theories! keep up the awsome work guys

  37. Zoe Fama says:

HI dedicated twilighters who i love dearly!
Personally, my love for Twilight will not be affected by the movie. Even if the movie portrays the beautiful story falsely, my dedication will not falter! However, I think that is highly unlikely. However, I do think that many fans will lose interest, though not a significantly large amount of people. Many of the fans, myself included, were in love with Twilight before the idea of a movie even materialized in… whoever-came-up-with-the-idea’s head. Also, if the movie is bad, which, again, I doubt, then i think many people will be discouraged. The only thing i know for sure is that Edward and Bella and Alice and Renesmee and everyone else will always have a special place in my heart. Whenever i make a decision, I ask myself, “What would Bella do? And Edward?”. Maybe I’ll start I new religion: Cullenity. Or maybe Cullenism? Twlightarian?

  38. Sarah says:

I think it will, in a word, explode. The original twilight fans who have been here from the beginning will be bludgeoned by brand new fans who have only seen the movie–it won’t be a bad thing, necessarily, but it will definitely grow, even if the movie turns out not to do so well (which i can’t image will happen, considering). I know I’ll still keep my twilight series on my bookshelf for all to see.

  39. obsessed twilighter says:

well…i think the fandom will be HUMONGO…but…there r a lot of critics out there…like if they dont do something right in the movie…most fans will go bezerk….and really critize the movie…..other than that i think most of the twilighters out there will stand together and love the movie……

  40. Sa'Misty says:

hmmm…. Here’s my honest opinion, and it getts kinda complicated…

First the fandom will get REALLY huge because of the movie… then after a while people that are not true twihards will eventually not be as crazed any more

I will forever be a crazed twihard… lol… I’m the self proclaimed Twilight embassidor of my school 😀

    Can’t wait for the podcast

  41. Jenn says:

I think we are looking at a generation that will go beyond Harry Potter. Twilight has been such a huge success at the New York Times that I have no doubt it will be a box office hit. For those that have read the books, it will be exactly what they have been looking for. Fandom will only become bigger and better. When the movie comes out it will only make the Twilight Saga stronger and hopefully make Stephenie get back to writing Midnight Sun. Can;t wait for the podcast!

  42. Olinda says:

    hey! girls
i live in mexico (im a us citizen), im 15 and I love your podcast
I really love twilight books, I already read the 4 of them.
I think that more people will read the books, cause, 2 years ago I was the only one in my school that read them (i read them in english cause i dont like to read them in spanish and cause they were not here, in mexico, when i started reading). last year a new classmate come, Megan, she also read them, so we became friends and all because of twilight. We start to tell our friends to read them, but they did not whant cause they hate reading, soo we show them the trailer and some of them began reading them (other they just want to see the movie), but now we are like 20 people (just in my school) that read them. One day we (Megie and me) were talking about what will happen when the movie comes out, and we say that it did not matter that the movie will not be what we hope, we always will be huge twilight fans. if the movie is not what we hope (i dont think that will happen), we always recommend the movie and the books, but it is only our opinion. I think that other huge fans, maybe will not like the movie and dont recommend it, so there will be less sells. seeing the answers of other people i think that they should be a true twilight fans and support the movie, even if it is not what they hope to see. Rob and kristen play only the role that stephanie give them, but in our minds there will be always the characters of edward and bella we imagine.
    i hope these help
    bye.. your friend ….olinda

ps. i love your “show” =)

  43. Abby says:

    Hi Ladies!
I started reading the Twilight series back in July/August and read all four books in like 3 days. The second i started reading them, i was in love, and knew I would never be able to put them away or leave em in the dark. I know for me, the movie is just going to make my love for the characters and stories even stronger and I am sure that the majority of the Twilight fandom will agree with me. What makes me sad is to hear people say the movie/books sound retarded, and that’s when i get defensive and stand up for THE greatest book series of all time and soon to be greatest MOVIE series of all time. After the movie, the Twilight legacy is going to continue on no matter what because Twilighters would never be able to let Edward, Bella, Renesmee and everyone down. I speak for myself and all Twilighters around the world when I say it will always be huge forever and ever!

One more month and the wait is over!!!!! OME!

PS – And now that it’s official and New Moon is in the works, the Fandom is going to go on that much longer and get even bigger! =] WHOOP WHOOP!

  44. Megan says:

I think that there will be different sects of fans created after the movie comes out. There will be:
    1. The people who loved the books & the movie.
    2. There will be people who loved the books & hated the movie.
    3. There will be people who love the movie but didn’t take the time to read the books.
    4. Then there will be people who didn’t like either of them.

I think that the movie will make a lot of people read the books, and then the fan base will grow from there. I also think that there are going to be those readers who don’t really dig the movie. There will definitely be some heated discussion after the movie comes out. Especially for those who are expecting it to have the same CG type stuff like the Harry Potter films.

    We will see…

Hey. I think that the twilight fanbase can only grow bigger with more fans that see the movie who havent read the books. I am a little concerned for what will happen after the movie of breaking dawn (if they make one), I think that fans might get a little bored with no new matterial and no news. But one thing i can see is twilight fans taking things into their own hands and following the careers of their favourite actors from the movies. Obsessed people such as twilight fans can only cure their obsession but taking on new obsession. So i dont think twilight fandom will last forever, just that twilight fans will.

    I love the show guys!

Ok first off my name is pronounced Muh-RAY-tuh it’s a tough one :). Second, I think that the twilight fandom will grow after the release of the movie. The growth of the fandom can already be seen; the books are everywhere, sites like facebook are exploding with twilight bumperstickers and groups and MTV’s promotion has helped astronomicly. I mean Look at the effect that the Harry Potter movies had on that fandom, and the same thing with Lord of the Rings. Sadly, movies reach a wider audience than books do, but when people find out that this movie was based on a book it will probably encourage a lot of them to go pick up the book and start reading (and we all know that once you start you can’t stop!). I’m sure that some of the stubborn perfectionist fans won’t like the movie, but that doesn’t mean that they will stop liking Twilight. So, in short I think that after the movie the fandom will grow and hopefully they will make the rest of the movies and Stephenie will finally finish Midnight Sun (a girl can dream can’t she?)

I love the show, keep it up!
    p.s. I can’t wait for Twilight Live!

This is definitely a good question judging by all the varied responses alone…

It really could splinter into many different directions. As someone stated previously, this may be the zenith. As an outsider to the Harry Potter franchise, I perceived the time around the first movie and when the last book came out to be the hype-iest time for HP. I think this first movie coming out is probably the high point for hype.

We know New Moon has been optioned, I don’t know how they make a New Moon without Eclipse, and you could end Eclipse with the wedding and skip BD (what with the CGI baby impossibility aspect…). I would rather that not be the case, but it may prove more practical for the filmmakers.

But…Harry Potter wasn’t “done” in print when the movies started coming out. So the question is, could this spurn on a second wave of Twilight books? Spinoffs? Who knows. As long as there’s not some crappy TV series…

And as long as the movie’s not so big that the stars just blow up and won’t revisit their roots for the sequels (say it ain’t so!)

But I think the fanbase is just going to be galvanized. I think we’ll add to our ranks. I think some folks will fall off because it wasn’t exactly what they envisioned (I could be tempted, seeing as it’s not ME that gets to play Jackson’s wife…maybe he should have a harem in New Moon…thoughts?) I think if we continue our Twilight-inspired adoration, it could lead to more Forks-y goodness in the future. But can even our zeal push the creative process? I don’t know. I’d rather be left wtih what we have than Stephenie start churning stuff out that’s less than her best just because we’re clammoring. But, judging by her very reverent treatment of Midnight Sun, I don’t think that would happen.

I think the fandom can only get larger. I have only recently become a twilight fan (in the last 6 months) and the fact a movie was coming out made me even more into it all. I believe the movie will have a positive effect on the fandom introducing new people to the series ^-^ After the movie release I am planning to get right on back into the series and reading New Moon again. I have already started reading Twilight for the second time in preparation for the movie release 🙂
I also would just like to say that I only started listening to your podcast last week and have already downloaded the ten latest episodes and am planning on slowly making my way through the rest. I think you guys are really sweet and I love all the discussions and the question of the week.
    Keep up the great work!

I think that twilight fandom will get even bigger. I am 13 years old and I’v been trying to get my friends to read the books. They all think that they are too long, and they will never finish them, even after I told them how addictive they are, and that I read the last 2 books in 3 days. I am FORCING them all to see the movie, and after I showed them the trailer, they’re all excited already. A lot of them said that if they really like the movie, they will read the books. I think that a lot of people won’t want to wait a year for the next movie to find out what happens to Edward and Bella. I know after I read the first book I went and got the second book the next day. Hopefully, the movie will be as intriguing as the books, but I think they will be.

If the movie is bad, I think that twilight will still get bigger, because if people see the movie and like the idea of it, even if they don’t like the actual movie, I think they will go read the books. It wont be as big as it would be if the movie was good but, it will just be like PR for the books. I know all my friends will love Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson :), and the idea of the perfect guy will make them want to read the books. I’m con only speak for most 13 year old girls though, so I might be wrong.

  50. Judith says:

People are so dedicated to having the Twilight experience grow, that I think it’s impossible for it to ever die down. People say this is a low budget movie, and that it’s not going to be big enough, but I think it’s just big enough, where it doesn’t get blown up into this fabricated Hollywood blockbuster. The people on this project are so dedicated, and are more interested in giving the fans what they want than making box office gold, unlike some other companies we know i.e Warner Brothers. If I was Renesmee Twilight would be my Jacob and if I could imprint on a book it be this one, plus the actors are smoking hot, so I don’t know how’ll we’ll ever get this series out of our heads. Please everyone watch How to Be, starrIng Robert Pattinson, it looks amazing.
