The score is different from the soundtrack. The score is the instrumental musical composition written specifically for the movie, the musical ambiance if you will.
check out the EW video with catherine hardwicke and carter burwell for an example, the score is the compisitions that are in the background, music to enhance the scenes.

The score means only instrumental music. Imagine when you’re watching a movie how often you hear background music. That’s what’s being released. I’m sure they’ll release sheet music, too. But that’s not what this is about.

I prefer the score to the soundtrack for this movie. (I seem to be out of touch with modern music). Does anyone know if that song that was playing on the latest trailer will be on the score? I loved it! (it was the eerie sounding sound, choral).
I hope the music on the website and the trailer will be on the score. I prefer the score to the other soundtrack anyway. An excellent score helps you remember the movie better (like Glory, Lord of the Rings, Dr. Who, etc) I’m excited for this one.
I LOVE this score. It is exactly what I was hoping for. Very beautiful and intense. The best score since “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”. I hope they keep him for the sequels. As soon as I saw the movie, I knew I had to buy the score.
BTW – since you asked, the score is the actual background music (usually instrumental) that is in the movie. Go to Amazon.com and you can sample each song on it. It’s awesome – gave me goosebumps.
