‘New Moon’ Casting News: Michael Copon, Ben Barnes Push For Roles In ‘Twilight’ Sequel

MTV has a couple of new updates regarding the Twilight world.
First, they have an article on who might be cast in New Moon here!
MTV News can confirm that 26-year-old “Scorpion King 2” actor Michael Copon [pronounced “COPE-on”] is one of several actors Weitz is considering to play the new, larger Jacob Black. A representative for Copon told us that they’re making a full effort to land the high-profile gig.

wow I dont know why everyone is so against this new guy, he is HOT! I love taylor but he is kinda young and little to be sexy older jacob, he is supposed to be an ADULT!
I am not happy with Michael Copon being our potential Jacob Black. I am not saying he can’t act but i dont want him to be in this movie. I feel like he is following me everywhere. He was on One Tree Hill, and his character and storyline acutally made me stop watching the show for awhile and then he turns up on That’s So Raven (yes i did actually watch that) and then i am flipping through the channels and hes playing a cheerleader in Bring it On 5 or 6? I dont know. I feel bad for Taylor, it makes me sad that a movie that made so much money cant use some movie magic to make Taylor look older. If people can take Ralph Fiennes (sp?) nose off then these people can do something for Taylor. Now on to Ben Barnes, i would LOVE for the talented hottie Caspian to be in the movie as a voltori member.
They need to consider Steven Strait for Jacob.
Ben Barnes?, for Aro? He’s hot yes, but I always pictured Aro as older, like mid-thirties or something.
Taylor and Kristen have NO chemistry .. i think they should recast Jacob, but not sure with who yet.

I hate it when movies switch characters in a series! Chris better not change anybody else in the movie or he is going to have som major twilight fans after him!
I have to agree with Brittani….they need to cast Steven Strait as older Jacob…..he could pull it off better then this Michael Copon dude…..I just don’t see him as Jacob…..Now as for Ben Barnes playing Aro….I think that would be a great idea….I didn’t picture it at first but know I can sorta see it 😀

Ha ha! I was all for Steven Strait and would still be VERY happy if they cast him. But I like Michael Copon. I knew I had seen him somewhere but I couldn’t place his face. He was on One Tree Hill a couple of years ago and I liked him on that so I’ll be cool with him as Jacob. Plus he looks the part!
Ben Barnes, huh? I never had a specific person in mind for Aro, but I have to say, I think I can see him in the part.

He’s so cute and funny. Kinda a goofball like Jacob in the books.
Mind you he’s only 16 – but my god does he have a body on him. Just give the guy time to grow up. You’d be surprised at how fast these kids can grow (in looks and height).
BUT I DON’T WANNA SEE ANY BEN BARNES, STEVEN STRAIT OR MICHAEL COPON IN NEW MOON.

however about Michael Copon… no way… it took me a huge effort to accept Taylor as Jacob and now i have to adjust again because Summit is being a big baby and want to change him… i’ve seen some of Michael Copon’s clips of him in One Tree Hill… and i was cringing the whole way through… the man can’t act!
Summit im losing faith in you, but if they get Ben Barnes as a Volutri i might think of watching the movie… if Taylor is replaced then i definitely will not watch New Moon… i might sound very rash but it will be awkward and such a waste of my money to go in and watch an actor that i don’t even like and he’ll be on the screen for a majority of the film!!! i’ll use my money to watch Sherlock Holmes rather than New Moon…

Really, have you all seen the photos of Michael Capon over on IMDB?? He could totally work as Jacob. He’s a bigger, better more manly, man than Taylor (who I do love and thought was a great Jacob in Twilight – just too young for werewolf Jacob)

Copon looks like an older Taylor so much it’s crazy! It would be totally believable and not confusing in any way. But, if what people here are saying, that he can’t act then, please, NO!
Thing is, Taylor is just NOT going to be big or mature looking enough. Please, let it go! You have to think of the integrity of the book into the movie. Your love for Taylor is great, but not at the expense of the believability of the movie. He is not sexy. He is TOO young and babyfaced!
If I were part of the Native American community, I would pretty p’od that they can’t find a gorgeous authentic Indian to play a GORGEOUS AUTHENTIC INDIAN!
Michael Copon might actually make a good Jacob, he’s got the looks. Unlike Taylor who is 16 and looks it too. Taylor just hasn’t grown enough to play werewolf Jacob, when Michael looks the part. I’m not the biggest fan of Taylor but I agree with everyone else it would be sad to see him go because he was pretty good in Twilight. But I do think Michael Copon would make an excellent New Moon Jacob Black.
I was seriously hoping for Eddie Spears as Jacob Black and have signed petitions in support of that, but for whatever reason, that just seems not to be. However, this Michael Copon is an absolute NO-NO. Like a lot of Twilighters, my second choice for Jacob would be Steven Strait and I have signed petitions for that as well, but even that seems to be unattainable. I truly hope they do not pick Copon. He’s good looking and all, but he clearly looks Asian as he is German and Filipino. I don’t know if Steven is part Native American, but he is at least “passable”, which is a shame in itself since Eddie Spears is of the Lakota Nation and not just “exotic”looking by chance; plus they can’t use the age argument against Eddie because he and Ben are the same age. I swear, there have got to be some Native Americans rolling in their graves that in this day in age one of their own is a major lead in a movie/ story and yet will be caste by someone who clearly isn’t Indian. No disrespect, but it’s like the 50’s all over again.

So they made a movie that earned 70 million dollars on its first weekend–with a cast that most fans were willing to accept–and suddenly they want to mess it up with z-list castings? It’s bad enough they’re willing to forsake a good film for an earlier release date and drop the director who had a vision for the film, but to think of casting Michael Copon as Jacob Black? He’s a kinda cute guy, sure, but his acting talents are questionable. Has anyone seen him act? There are plenty of Native American actors for the director to choose from and I for one would appreciate it if they would go in that direction. The character Jacob is suppose to help carry the next film right? Copon doesn’t have the talent, the charisma, nor the appearance to fit that role. Gah, if they’re going to mess it up they could at least try to make it a decent film with decent castings. As for Ben Barnes, he’s cute, but it’s still up in the air for me.

I LOVE Ben BArnes!!! I’m not sure about him being ARO but he’s a great actor and maybe he can pull this off if he would be chosen to play the role. As for Michael Copon… hmmm… not really that bad if you think about it. After all, JAcob’s character is quite complex. He’s “growth spurt” should be put into consideration and honestly Taylor LAutner looks very young and small
when placed side-by-side with Robert PAttinson. We do need a Jacob who could literally face Edward Cullen head on. And as I remembered from the book, JAcob became a bit taller than Edward.
