“What’s in a name?”

All of the Twilight Series characters have great names! Some of you have emailed in and let us know what your favorite names mean. We are going to spend next week looking into the meanings of the main character’s names! It will be fun to find out how the meaning of a name might reflect the character’s personality! So, here is the question we want you to answer…
My favorite name would have to be Emily. It’s kinda funny because my mom was just about to give me that name. (Just before her brother beat her to it and now I have an older cousin named Emily.) It means rival. How funny is that? Most definatly the perfect name for that character. She’s Leah rival, for sure. My other favorite name is Claire. I think she’s the three year old that Quil imprinted on. Or maybe Embry. I’m pretty sure it was Quil. Anyways, it means clear or illuminated. I couldn’t really find a connection for that one. Here are some other meanings of names from Twilight.
Aro: Army Ruler (suprised I found this one) It’s Italian too!
Marcus: Male (I guess that’s true?!?!?!?!) That name is Romanian. (The origin of the name is to the right of the parenthesis.)
Edward: Blessed Gardian (He’s Bella’s gaurdian.) Old English.
Alice: Noble, Kind (She really is!) Her name is Old English.
Rosalie: Rose (She’s decribed as very beautiful so I guess that fits.) French.
I tried to find some other names but didn’t have time to write them down. Enjoy! This was a really fun and intersting question of the week!

if i could change my name to anything in the world, i would have to pick alice. i would pick this name, not b/c of alice in the book, but because my name is so boring. emma. wow. and alice just sounds so happy and fun, and i don’t know any alices’ so, alice would be the best name ever!

First, i would like to point out that its funny how on a baby naming website, every time i go on it Bella or Isabella and usually some other name from twilight is in the top names for the day.

These are just a few of the main, main characters names. To me, some make sense and some dont.
~Alice means noble kin, which in a way describes what a true friend she is to Bella
~Bella means beautiful, and in Edwards eyes she shure is, but it is also kind of ironic that her name means beautiful and she doent think she is one bit!
~Edward means wealthy gaurdian and he is the best gaurdian anyone anywhere could EVER have! He is also very wealthy!
~Esme means loved and all she does is love, and i think everyone she loves loves her back
~Jasper means treasurer, in my head this kind of makes sense (but it might not in other’s heads) i just dont know how to describe it
~Emmett means entire, and emmett always wants the entire challenge, and he is sooo big(which can relate to entire)
~Rosalie means rose, (makes complete sense) and roses are very pretty, just like her
~Charlie means free man, and that totally makes sense because he is a free man, he has no wife to handle, he is a police man, so he cant worry about getting arrested, and he does what he wants pretty freely too (ex. fishing, watching games)
~Renee means reborn, and in a way she is because she has such a childish mind
Im sad to say but Carlisle’s name and Jacob’s name definitely dont make sense to me! I mean, City lugavalos?!?!?! What and where is THAT!?! And supplanter just doesnt describe jacob. (If u want 2 explain y they make sense, please do!!)
One more thing that I think is interesting. If you look at the origins of most of the Cullens name’s (exlude Bella and renesmee) you will see They are all from old england and france. This can show how old they are, because before immigration started happening, France and England were the 2 european countries that basically founded America.
If I was to choose a new name for myself, I would choose Alice. My friends are an important part of my life, and being honest to them is important. This also might be because Alice is my by far favorite female character!! I love her personality and spunkyness and sense of style. I also love the way Alice sounds, it is pretty but also has some sparks in it, like Alice’s personality.

I absolutely adore the name Carlie (Renesmees middle name) I think its gorgeous because it’s a really soft name and its really cute and genta. I found its meaning and it means ‘Free spirit’ Which is so cool. Also- Of course- I love the name Bella. It means ‘Beautiful’ In italy. Personaly, I prefer it to Isabella.
I have something I would like to say and Im not sure if it has been mentioned before but i think it should be. I found it strange how throughout the entire movie Edward (pattinson) Never once says simply ‘I love you’ To bella (stewart) although In the book he says it several times. Even though they had to fit the movie into 2 hours I think they still could have found time to say it because there were plently of chances (In the hospital after fight, at prom, ect.) and I think it was an important part because it makes you think ‘Wow, he really does love her too’ but because he didnt say it, it makes you think ‘Does he really love her as much as she loves him’ And when you read midnight sun (partial draft) you can see he does, so I think that they should have showed that in the movie. Even if he only said it once, It would have had so much meaning to it because they are such powerful words. He does say ‘So the lion fell in love with the lamb’ which is a beautiful line but I think he could have said it again in a more direct sense.
Finally, I LOVE your podcast! Every episode is SO cool!
I also love the movie and I have seen it 5 times in theatres.

And…
Im SO SO SO excited for this New Moon! Im purely team SWITZERLAND. I have no prejudice against Jacob or Edward, I love them both to pieces, and I am very happy about the way things turned out in breaking dawn.
Oh and One more thing! I think that JODELLE FERLAND should DEFINITELY play Jane in New Moon! Shes perfect for it!!!!

Okay Okay, this is so 2 weeks ago BUT…I needed to add my 2 cents about Bella.
Lets forget her entire name as whole. She’s prefers and identifies best with being called Bella, meaning “beautiful” right?
Secondly, her last name is Swan, duh. So literally her name can be interpreted as “Beautifull Swan”
Now, we can actually see and use her last name as a metaphor for her character throughout the series. Naturally
swans are the “ugly-ducklings” when first hatched and later mature into stunningly beautiful and graceful creatures. So the changes in the Swans appearence from hatchling to maturity directly reflect Bella’s transformation from Human to vampire.
FYI: I’m aware that boy Swans are the only ones that turn out to be the pretty ones…im only talking about the meaning of her name..I’m aware Bella is not a dude.
Oh BTW–
ALSO- I’d have the name Jasper
and if i was a chick- Definately Kate or Esme
Ok So I know this one has passed.. but I was listening to the podcast and decided to look up names and when I looked up Leah I found this:
“In Hebrew, the name Leah means- first wife of Jacob in the Old Testament. Leah became Jacobs first wife by trickery, as Jacob had intended to marry her younger and more beautiful sister, Rachel, who soon became his second and favoured wife.”
Sooo Kallie’s theory that Leah would end up with Jacob would kinda make sense from this! But.. then also there would be a possibility that Jacob would want to be with a Rachel and that would be bad because that’s his sister.. ya kinda gross.

My name has been Kachiri for twenty four years. My mom got it from a movie called The Emerald Forrest. Though I don’t personally know any Kachiris but I do know there are other girls with my name. I felt a certain pride in having a unique name that not many people had heard of so when I found out there was a Twilight character with my name I began to have mixed feelings. On the one hand, being associated with something as coll as the Twilight series is amazing. On the other hand, I don’t know how I feel about my name being common place. That’s what made it cool to begin with.

Also my parents got my name from the movie The Emerald Forest,
I always thought my name was unique even though my name came from a movie.
Untill i typed my name on Google and saw many Kachiri’s in America, and a few years ago, I read my name in a book, Breaking Dawn.
I thought it was really cool to see my name in a book, and i’m waiting for the movie to see myself 😉

I’ve seen the movie, The Emerald Forest, and Kachiri is definitely the name I prefer, it sounds very mysterious and therefore loveable, furthemore, the girl, Kachiri, in the emerald forest is so wonderful. Plus, I like the character in twilight ^^.
