NEW ABOUT THE NEXT HUNGER GAMES!
When readers of the bestselling fantasy novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins reach the last page, many of them will be eager to know, “But what happens next??” Unfortunately, we can’t tell you yet, but we can show you, for the very first time anywhere, the cover for the sequel, Catching Fire. Scholastic is publishing the book on September 8 with a 250,000-copy first printing (Scholastic Audio Books will release a simultaneous audio edition).
The Hunger Games came out last September, after much pre-pub buzz; it has 225,000 copies in print, with 26 foreign editions to date. Collins is currently at work writing the third and final volume in the trilogy, tentatively scheduled for 2010.
David Levithan, executive editorial director at Scholastic, says that the manuscript for Catching Fire is available in-
house on a “need to read” basis only. “It’s the most secrecy I’ve had about any project I’ve ever worked on.” Why such secrecy? Levithan says it’s not a ploy for attention—they really don’t want the book’s plot to become public. “We want as many readers as possible to find out what happens in the book itself,” he explains. “We don’t want a Midnight Sun to happen [an early draft of Stephenie Meyer’s companion novel to Twilight was posted on the Internet last summer, causing the book to be postponed indefinitely]. It’s pretty remarkable what [Collins] has done and where she’s going. There are lots of twists and turns, and part of the fun is the surprise of it.”
I love how they refer to it as a Midnight Sun! Haha!

i just bought a copy of the hunger games at work today so it’s next on my list to read after my reread of new moon (for like the 6th time, its getting me funny looks when they see i’m only ever reading a book from the saga!)
i still haven’t read midnight sun. its downloaded on my laptop but i feel guilty if a read it before its actually completed. i’m saving it for when i’ve had a REALLY bad day to cheer me up!

I can’t wait for the next book. I thought her feelings for Gale were kind of belated in the story so I’m hoping she can get Peeta to forgive her and get back together with him. Gale sounds like a catch, in his own right, but Peeta has loved her since they were kids!
I didn’t realize David Levithan was part of the project too. That’s awesome! I loved Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. His writing is great, he really relates to the YA demographic well.

Ok it is funny that a pre-published book getting leaked is called a ‘MS’. Ya I am thinking now that I should of waited until it was finished 😐 ::::::fills with remorse::::: BUT I am eraseing it from my memory incase it is ever finished…

I finally bought The Hunger Games (after many days of begging my parents). It should be here anyday now so yeah. If I like it, I’ll have to see what I can do about getting Catching Fire ^^

ARGH!!! I need to know what happens to Katniss and Peeta! The Hunger Games was so good and I was so mad at the cliffy at the end! I bet something is going to happen between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale (love triangle, anyone?). Ugh, but now I have to wait for another 8 months! And then another year to see how it ends!

wonder if Gale actually does like Katniss.. you know more than friends… i wonder if he was going to say remember i love you or something like that at the begining of the book, when they were saying good-bye to eachother, and gale said remember i… and then he got pulled out of the room.. hmm.

I wasn’t REALLY sad about rue dying. It kinda made tears go to my eyes, but I wasn’t hyperventilating like I did for Ares, from Suzanne Collins’ first series.

i totally agree with u, ladeda! plus no one can EVER compare to them.. but your right anyway, its not a romance book, although there is a little love stuff in there, its not the main point.. im starting to want Katniss to end up with Gale a little more.. but i probably want to learn more about Gale because really, there wasn’t a whole lot about him in there..

OMG!!!! Cant wait for Catching fire to come out I just finished the book this book this morning.lol. I was Really sad when Rue died. This Book was a lot like romeo and juliet in a lot of ways. With the berries espically. lol.
O.M.G i cant believe it katniss is confused if she loves Peeta or not BUT SHE DOES I CAN TELL i have a plan that thell get married (of course this is all in my head)and they’re gonna have kids that the Capitol is gonna try and kill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I read the hunger games after SM suggested it, and I’m so glad I did. I can’t choose between Peeta or Gale, because we don’t know enough about Gale. I am pretty sure there will be a love triangle, and what Gale was trying to say will be revealed. I don’t know what he was going to say, I think it’s something other than ‘i love you’ though.
Apparently there’s going to be a movie of it!

Jenni, Making a movie based on the book is at lot harder than said. What with all the violence, I don’t think it will make the cut for a P-13 movie.(Even if its a YA book) Lets just cross our fingers and hope they make it a movie 😛

I just got the first book from the library and basicly couldn’t put it down till i was done. i can’t wait to see if katniss and peeta stay together and what the capitol will do about the berry thing

Are u kiddin me this book flies by so fast.ahh.I hate the cliff hanger.I want so badly for them to have a happy ending and for katniss to only think of gale as a brother.her feelins for peeta don’t seem fake.
i loved this book so much i literally couldnt put it down and i stayed up until finished it…..cant wait for the next book! for now im rooting for Peeta but who knows….Collins might just make us fall in love with gale too….kinda like in twilight 2 guys team gale or team peeta and i have a feeling book#2 will make us care as much abt gale as Stephenie Meyer made us for jacob in new moon
this is defiantly one of my favorite books competing for #1 with twilight series the host the harry potter series and the uglies series….
Not going to believe me but my work got an advance reader copy of catching fire and I pretty much loved it. There are just as many cliffhangers!
