Jacob & Bella’s Blossoming Friendship

Next week we will be discussing Kassie’s favorite topic (sarcasm noted) Jacob andd Bella! I have a feeling we will be chasing little bunnies named Taylor, but I will try my hardest to keep Kassie on the topic at hand!

I don’t really care for Jacob, I mean he’s cool at times and sometimes I found him annoying. But if I had to chose it would probably be that he was there for Bella. Although I feel it wasn’t for the right reasons. He was there as I hope one day you will take me as your boyfriend.
YEAH! Bella was leading him on. Even though she told him what she thought. She was still doing it. That’s what I hated about Bella, she was hurting not just Jacob but EDWARD too. She was such a…..I can’t even say it. But I’m sure you can fill in the blank.
Hey Ladies! I really love the pod cast and the website! I am a huge Jacob fan (Kassie go a head and groan here). Edward is ok for Bella, but Jacob is so amazing how could anyone not like him really? He is a faithful friend and yea I know it’s totally putting him in comparison to a dog, but hey it’s in his nature. My favorite quality about Jake is that he lets Bella be herself without asking her to change for him. He tends to lets her make mistakes and doesn’t overly criticize her for it. Bella lets loose around Jacob and is more relaxed around his family and friends. In a good relationship these are all the right qualities to have. Don’t get me wrong Team Edward he has his great qualities too. But I don’t get all the hate for Jake? He was there to pick up all the pieces and put Bella back together again. During that time Bella totally strung him along by always holding his hand, cuddling with him and spending every minute she could with Jacob. In a high school relationship that’s what you do; you spend as much time as you can together. Holding hands and cuddling are very intimate beginnings of a budding relationship. Bella knew how Jake felt and yet she continued with her actions knowing that he felt something deeper. That is where she lead him along.

I definitely think Jacob has this way of letting you forget about all of your issues. When everyone was telling Bella that she needed to let it go and looked at her like she was this crazy, vulnerable person about to break, Jacob was able to not look at her like she was this helpless person. He found a way to differ her attention and make her find happiness in the moment and that’s the quality in Jacob that made them close. I think it got to a point were Bella would need him to let her not feel so trapped in this existence where every emotion was extreme but where she could be a teenager and have fun. I don’t think she intended to stringing him on, I think that’s what ended up happening.
i actually like jacob at first i was a bit hesitant but now i’m starting to like him a lot more
the “friend” quality i like the most about jacob is the fact that he has such determination to win bella over it takes guts to do that and for that, i think is why i’m starting to like Jacob a lot more now … i can’t wait for the movie now ahhhh!!
Totally. Bella was sooo leading him on. She just didn’t realize it. I like jacob’s sunny side. Like how he can make you smile and laugh and forget all you problems. Thats why I think Taylor is a PERFECT Jacob. Everytime I see Taylor he makes me smile and feel good. AND he is soooo HOT!!!!! and funny.

To me (as a bloke), Jaboc is always there when you need him, like friends should be. And, agreeing with Cherry and everyone else, his sunny, upbeat side to him. I like that about Jacob and I have a feeling that I would be friends with him if he was real…
Was Bella leading him on? Er… YES!!! She did it in TWILIGHT when she wanted to know what Sam meant by “The Cullens don’t come here” (La Push), so she “tried” to flirt with him. If she didn’t flirt with him, then maybe she wouldn’t have lost her backbone in Eclipse (seriously dislike that book because of her!) by not making up her mind! (Not that I’m bitter or anything…) 😉

I like how he is very protective of the pack and the way he cares for his dad. I think that is a nice thing to find in a guy ao I think Bella would have been lucjy to be with him if there were no Edward.
I for sure think Bella leads Jacob on but can I understand how she does it wihout even realizing it. It is easy to have a best friend for a guy and not realize they have feelings for you. It happens in tv shows all the time. And even when you do realize it you dont want to stop being friends with that person. So I think that she loved Jacob as a friend, but to him her love seemed more romantic.Jacob is a great guy and he would have been perfect for Bella if there was not Edward, but when compared to Edward Joacob doesnt stand a chance. Jacob is so ordinary in comparison. There is so much more Edward has to offer, and I really do believe Edward loved her more.

Firsty I am most definatly Team Edward as I find Jacob really really annoying but he was a good friend to Bella when she needed him most mostly in New Moon. Also he was very warm & understaning towards Bella’s heartbreak situation when Edward left. However I think these are the ONLY good friend qualities he has because most of the time he is being too up-front & horrible about Edward, I mean really if he was a great friend he wouldn’t dis his best friend’s boyfriend even if he hated him. After all he was making Bella uncomfortable & if he truely loved her, he would keep his mouth shut!
Secondly I didn’t feel that Bella was leading Jacob along at the beginning of New Moon because she truely needed a friend. But near the end when Edward returns she just ditches Jacob & then in Eclipse she is most definatly leading him on because is was so so obvious that she was going to end up with Edward in the end, otherwise the books would have been about Bella & Jacob not Edward. Overall I think that Bella was leading Jake on most of the time throughout New Moon & Eclipse.

I have been dying to answer this question.
I was never sure if I liked Jacob or not but when i read it for the second time, I actually fell in love with him.
He has always wanted to do right by Bella, even though it always looked like he was being blunt. For example, at the end of New Moon, he hands in the motorcycle to Charlie, getting her in trouble, but he was trying to keep her safe or so he thought, so I think he is very protective. But I think his downfall is his temper.
Jacob and Bella have always been equal because when Bella was with Edward, she let Edward treat her like a child and he also controlled her sometimes, whereas when shes with Jacob, we get more of a look at her being Bella and joking around.
Jacob is also very emotional. And Bella, the selfish person she is, uses it against him when she wants to get her own way. (in Eclipse) ..I think Jacob was lead on.
Like, Bella went back to Edward at the end of New Moon, when he practically snapped his fingers. “Honey, Im home” Ha. Jacob was treated like a fool and used as a step in ,while Edward ran off. Seriously, Who wants to be with a guy/vampire like that?? Why would you take back someone like that and treat your friend like that?( But then again, its Bella)
Jacob gave her back her self confidence and sanity….Because she always thought she wasnt good enough etc to “hold” Edward….
Like wouldnt you be ticked off if you put a broken hearted person back together and then they ran back to the absent lover like nothing happened?
He treated harshly by the both of them and he’s better off without them.

As much as I love Edward I also like Jacob. Jacob is just so loyal and you are going to find more boys like him then you will Edward. When Eward left she couldn’t pull it together let alone breath. Jacob swooped in and saved her from being worse than just depressed. Well then Jacob left her but that was because Edward came back. If he didn’t there would be a little Jacob rather than a little Edward. But I do love both of them.
Sorry I didn’t finish. I think she lead him on in the beginning but the last 2 books of the series she loved him and wasn’t just using him.
i like that hes so nice and caring for her.. but i do .. but she was also to never realy see Edward again.. so i have to say no also

I think the best friendship quality Jacob has is that he was always there for Bella even when he couldn’t tell herhe was a werewolf/shapeshifter/wolf. Yes I think Bella might have been leading Jacob on in the begining withh the motorcycles and cliff diving but after Edward came back I think she actually grew a love for him but more of a brotherly/sisterly love (like you two have for each other). so thats just what I think thanks for the great podcasts!!

I love Jacob, don’t get me wrong I am soo team Edward but, I think Jacob is great (especialy [sp?] when played by Taylor).

firstly… I’m strictly team EDWARD…
but i believe that Jacob’s best friend quality would be his compassion for you…
you have to admit that he even showed compassion for leah, Claire, and of course Bella…
even if he’s supper tired you can tell that he’ll always show that side of him that is supper caring and loves his friends.
as for the second question…
i believe that intentionally bella didn’t lead him on…
i think that it wasn’t until after she knew his secrets was when she started to show interest…
she was always in love with edward…
when he left she was vulnerable, and in away jacob was like her shoulder to cry on
cause he knew that there was still something wrong…

Okay, the thing I love the most about Jacob is how he lifts Bella up when she fell hard, with Edward leaving her and all. I also love his persistence! He knows that Bella will always love Edward and yet he keeps at it.
Bella was totally leading him on. She leaned way too much on him and became too attached. Then she hurt Jacob like she was hurt by Edward, when Edward came back.
Kassie, you should really give him a chance!

Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening!
My favorite quality about the Jacob in the book that made me love him is his happiness. He is like a magnet that draws everyone to him and they can’t help but be happy around him. He reminds me a lot of my husband, although I am on Team Edward there is a certain pull that Jacob had at least for me that made me want to root for him a little bit.
I don’t think that Bella was leading Jacob on in the New Moon book. She thought Edward was gone forever and did fall in love with Jacob (Although she didn’t know it). He saved her from wasting away and brought back the reason for her to live agian. However I do feel that there was a little bit of the leading on happening in Eclipse. Edward was back, but Bella kept going to Jacob. Although to her it didn’t feel like that, to us in the outside it did. But honestly I can’t say that I would change anything about the way Stephanie wrote the books in that aspect. The story between Edward/Bella/Jacob was the way it should have been.

The thing I absolutely love about Jake is that he is really hilarious and easy-going…. most of the time. When he isn’t annoying the heck out of people, he is very easy to get along with. I think Jake is- as previously stated- a major crack up!!!!!
I feel that, in a certain way, Bella was leading him on. She kept begging for him to stay, and gave him all the sympathy that he didn’t always deserve, probably making Jake feel like she was going to pick him over Edward. But, we all know, that was never going to happen, and Jake was left in the dust.
i like that jacob can always make bella feel warm safe and happy… you rarely ever hear her complain about jacob doing her wrong yes the occasional annoyance but he is always there ready to do w/e to make her happy as long as it doesnt involve edward 🙂 i <3 jacob so i may be somewhat biased i also was recently lead on big time so i may be biased when i say that i think bella was being selfish and leading jacob on the whole time weather intentional or not she was and it is sad! love the podcast keep it up!
I how Jacob always thinks of ways to cheer people up and how he always, just, warm and helpful and………yeah. I don’t know what to make of the Bella-Jacob thing. I don’t THINK she was leading him on, well not really.

i think the best quality about jacob, at least for me, and i think for bella too, is that he wasnt so pushy, and he gave her her own space. Jacob thought of bella as her own person, not that both edward and jacob didnt belittle her at times, or think her less capable, but bella is a teen in the books, which meant she was bound to, or wanted to get into her own problems, and make mistakes. I think since edward can remember every single detail, and thing he’s ever experienced, or been taught, it adds to the fact that he doesn’t like to make mistakes, and in turn i don’t think he wants bella to have to go through making mistakes and regreting them as he does. It makes sense that he wouldn’t want her to be in some of the situations she puts herself in, but jacob being younger, and for better or for worse lets her do what she wants most of the time. He is also more honest, because he does think even if she’ll be upset, that she derserves to know what is happening in her own life. I think that jacob being younger, and half human still, he is able to relate to her, and let her be…btw i love jacob & edward equally so this wasnt as biased ….i think it was fair!!!!! thanks 4 reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*******************************************************

Bella totally led the poor sweetheart on. He most definitely liked her (DUH!) but she kept that close relationship strong when she needed him. She completely used him too. When Edward was gone, she needed a strong point, and that point was Jacob Black. His best quality would have to be his strong supporting personality. He was there for Bella when she needed him, but could hang out with his friends when he wanted to. His loyalty was not so much loyalty, as it was more a follower–seeking Bella’s love. Like any “dog”, they follow you, looking for food you drop or because they love you. I think it was more searching for acceptance and love from Bella then actual deep friendship. But, still… He’s Jacob and you have to love him for his efforts. Edward always wins though… Duh 🙂
We learn a thousand times at school about “what makes a good friend?”, but I don’t think I’ve ever quite appreciated it except when Stephenie describes it in New Moon.
Jacob is an exceptional listener.
Seriously, he is able to actually listen and HEAR Bella, rather than just listening so that he can have a fickle response at the time. He pays attention to anything she says and there are definite moments during New Moon (none that I can think of off the top of my head) when even Bella is surprised that he has paid attention to her and remembered things. Not only things she says but things she does.
As far as Bella goes with leading him on I think she was when she starts musing over Romeo and Juliet, about how Juliet could have been happy with Paris if Romeo had never been able to come back to her. This is when she starts really considering Jacob as an alternative to Edward. By accepting that she may have someone else who cares for her she started attaching herself to him even more. But even with that she is still trying to hallucinate about Edward. Poor Jacob didn’t even have a chance.

Jacob & Bella’s friendship.
Bella is hurt, alone and is depressed. Charlie forces Bella to snap out of it and get a life. Bella trys to re-attach strings to her class mates. Few are forgiving. One day Charlie mentions Billy and Jacob. Bella thinks about Jacob in a sense that he might not have relized what a state she had been in after Edward left.
Now this is where i think Jacob takes advantage of Bella. Not literally but in a sense he see’s her cry and goes and says everything is alright and becomes the guy that was always there for me. And he’s seen her cry as a little kid and knows her from back then.
e.g When Bella, Mike and Jacob go to port angeleas to see a movie. On the way Mike asks for music to be put on. Jacob says “No, Bella doesn’t like music”
Bella thinks: How did he know that? I never said it.
BUT SHE DID!!
When she was a little kid Jacob must have put music on and she hated it so therefore she told him!!!!
As for Bella leading Jacob on:
At first it seems innoucent till Bella realizes she’s no longer numb.With that being said Bella becomes an adrelaine junkie. The only person that might even remotely help her is little old Jacob Black. After she realizes he likes her she takes it into her advantage. Holding his hand then asking him for help.During New Moon i find Bella manupulative. And yes she was leading Jacob on. That or Bella has a split personality.
Bella was definatly leading Jacob on! She used him to get over Edward big time. I think deep down she knew Jacob liked her in that way and liked the attention but she did not think it would hurt to let it go that far in order to get over Edward. I think she always thought of Jacob as a friend and ignore his growing feeling beause for her Edward was the only one. We all do sometimes without thinking. He was not the rebound guy because they never dated but always a friend in her eyes (no matter what happen in esclipse). With that being said I thINK we all have a Jacob in all lives and need it as a distance. You know how we meet someone and put them in friend or boyfriend status? For Bella he was just a friend, someone she could talk to about Edward and help her get over Edward. In a way she was sending him mixed signals and was never clear where her heart stood.
I have to say I am a Team Switzerland at heart. I like the way the saga finishes with everyone getting who they want. But the more I read the books (onto my fourth time now) the more I sympathise with Jacob. In alot of ways he is perfect for Bella. He is the perfect guy for her in the real world. I honestly think in reality he is the perfect guy. Its right when he says that in the book.
Everytime I read the part when Bella says goodbye to Jacob in Eclipse I ball my eyes out (I actually do the ugly cry) haha. I give props to Jacob for going after Bella and showing her that there are other options. It takes alot of guts to do that and put yourself out there.

The thing I like most about Jacob is well,… (can I give more than one?)
So 1st, His Loyalty. He was almost always there in New Moon for Bella when she needed him the most. Even when he was turning in to a Werewolf (Shape shifter) he made sure to come to Bella and try to help her guess what he was so they could still be friends:-) It warms my heart!
2nd, His humor, He’s hysterical, he can always cheer up Bella when she’s sad. I know how important that is because when I went through a slump, I had friends like that, who would do the same for me.
I do think Bella was leading Jacob on. It’s just a tad mean to spend so much time with some one, and then drop them completely! Don’t you think so?

The best quality about Jacob is his ability to see the truth and not shy away from it. I see that many listeners believe Bella was leading Jacob on, but I don’t think that is really the case. Bella loved Jacob, Bella was destined for Jacob, and Jacob had the wit and determination to see that and try to convince Bella to admit her feelings for him. That takes some true guts, that takes wisdom beyond his years, that takes a truly special person, and I love Jacob for that. He knew it was going to be a tough battle to win Bella over, he knew that it would most likely end in his heart breaking, but he put his entire effort into trying to achieve that dream. We all should be so brave.

Ok, so I am Totally team Edward but seeing this question has come up I thought I would have a go at giving my opoion.
Jacob’s best ‘Friend’ quality is his ‘Carefree’ nature he has. (it fades a bit with the whole Vampire// Wolf thing, but it comes back).
Jacob – is a pretty cool teenage guy. He just takes what is given to him and embraces it. He didn’t like being a Werewolf at the start, but he found the positives in it and now he loves it…
I think, In the future ( THIS IS NOT A *SUPPORTER SPECULATION* (astrixs mean Cassie singing)) But I think in the future – Jacob and Emmett will turn out amazing friends.
onto the next question.
In New Moon, Charlie mentions to Alice, that jacob is old for his years. He is, But Bella seems to forget somtimes that Jacob is a few years younger. He is closer to a child than he is an adult. But bella treats him like he is the same age, expecting him to always be mature and grown up – when he isn’t. HE IS A CONFUSED LITTLE PUPPY!
So yes, Bella did lead him on – but unintentionally, she forgot she was doing it,

I love jacob and think his best quality is his attentiveness. He really pays attention to Bella because of how much he cares for her. When it comes to who should be with bella, im team edward (so no hating on me edward people!), but I adore jacob as a character. I fell in love with jacob in new moon when he is out with bella and mike on that hilariously awkward outing, and mike wants to put music on, but jacob says something along the lines of ‘No. Bella doesnt like music’.
Not only does that show that he wants what bella wants, rather than what he wants (maybe he wanted some music on in the background to try and help get rid of the awkward silence) but it shows that he understands bella, he knew something like that without her having to say a word. You see it again when he talks to her about the literally holding herself together thing. He notices all the little details and that is just so sweet of him. Especially because he does it so that he can make bella happy in any way possible.
As for Bella leading him on, Im unsure. On the one hand i dont think she was because she did love him, and she acted how you act when you love somebody. However, i also think she did lead him on because she always knew she would be with edward, and even in new moon when she thought she would never see edward again, she knew edward was her true love and that jacob would never be enough for her.

Jacob’s best friend quality was his bright personality and warmth. Bella frequently commented on Jacob being her own personal sunshine. That was my favorite quality about him. He brought a smile to Bella’s face when no one else could. He also kept Bella together and helped her heal until Edward came back. Even Team Edward (me) was annoyed at Jacob in Eclipse, we cannot ignore that fact that Jacob was exactly the friend Bella needed.
With Jacob what you see is what you get. At a typically immature 15 or 16 years (I can’t remember exactly), he is innocence and sincerity. He acts from his heart. He’s not yet jaded to stop and consider what he should do. He just does it. Unlike Edward who weight the pros and cons of situations and evaluates potential outcomes. Jacob is what he is, the sun, and for now you don’t change him. His emotions have not yet weathered with time. I love his spontaneity and his steadfastness. I personally have valued my friendships with guys more often than with girls. Guys can be more forgiving of the things you criticize yourself for. Jacob is just a good guy plain and simple. But for Bella, his is not Edward and that too, is what it is. Love the podcast, have yet to miss and episode. Wooooo, Hooooo!!
Jacob’s best quality for Bella is that really understands her, and is able to compliment her. Her dark moods are lightened by his cheerful nature and his humor. In all things not related to his relationship with Bella, he seems to be able to shrug off the bad and deal with life as it comes. He knows how to have fun with her without overthinking it. He doesn’t perseverate on all of the millions of things that could possibly go wrong when he’s with her and just enjoy the moment.
Did Bella lead him on? Man. This is the thing about Bella that just really infuriates me about her. She tells him that they are just friends in what she says. But in everything she does she gives the impression of much more. She spends every waking moment with him before Edward comes back. She lets him hold her hand even though she knows that it means more to him than it does to her. She sneaks away from Edward to see him. She snuggles with him. She does things in such a selfish way to keep him in her life even when she knows that he won’t ever mean as much to her as Edward does. Even when she is married and pregnant. She knows that she has this hold over him and uses it so very selfishly. She doesn’t let him move on. She DEFINITELY leads him on. She hurts him and Edward in the process. IMO, she doesn’t deserve either of them in Eclipse.

now i’ll be honest; when i first read new moon (and even more in eclipse) i did not like jacob that much but changed my mind after breaking dawn and seeing things from his point of view and in his friendship with bella particularly in New Moon was his ability to read Bella totally.
he knew when to not say things, when to change the subject and most of all he knew instinctively not to say his name to her. BEST QUALITY EVER! He kept her going when she needed it and thank goodness for us as the readers because months of Bella’s mopping around Forks. bad times.
I don’t think Bella lead Jacob along on as such but she wasn’t exactly thinking about anyone else at the time. she was all about Edward and her broken heart; either trying to heal it or trying to hide it from everyone else. HOWEVER bella must have known what she was giving him the wrong idea at some point because she comments on how she thinks Jacob might be thinking about taking the friendship further but does nothing but mention it a couple times.
HELLO, this is a teenage boy you’re talking to Bella. REPETITION IS NEEDED!

I liked Jacob in the Twilight movie and book. in the book because since your feeling what bella feels, its not wierd talking to hiom an din the movie becasue she is more herself with him than anyone else. i liked the smiley kid he was and i liked his section in breaking dawn and nowe i know how he felt about bella and i just really thoiught htey had a good realtionship like jacob said, effortless.
First of all, Im mainly an Edward fan, but there are times when I am team Switzerland, so i can see both sides. Jacob always finds the will to forgive and apologize, which i think is great! Most people find it extremely difficult to forgive and forget or admit what they did was wrong. Even though there are some instances where Jacob takes some time with his apologies and such, this quality demonstrates a mature side of Jacob, which is a side of him you dont see a lot! Jacob being able to do so is what mends Bella and Jacobs friendship, because if neither one of them was able to forgive and apologize, their friendship would have been over a LONG time before the series ended. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Jacobs sense of humor. You dont always see it in Bellas perspective, and definitely not the first time you read it, but Jacob makes remarks that may be snide, but are none the less funny. Mostly, you see it in Breaking Dawn when its Jacobs book. I love it how he starts the whole thing off with “Life sucks and then you die — I should be so lucky”. Even though he is serious, it is funny because of the truthfulness within it, and how he always seems to be able to make fun of his own suckish life. The third and last thing I love about Jacob movie style is that he is HOTHOTHOT!!! (and i cant wait to see taylor with his shirt off in New Moon)
Well, first of all i love the podcast and i listen to it al the time.. its the first thing i do when i turn on my computer…(go to your website and listen…LOL) Secondly, the friedn quality i llike about Jacob is that he is a kind person and that he protects her from herself and when they are using motorcycles… but what i dont like is that he BLCK MAILS her in eclipse saying he would kill himself without a kiss…and well i am NOT team Jacob because him and Bella get on my nerves… and yes, i do think that Bella is leading him on by holding his hand “to no hurt his feelings” and also by letting herself be hugged in a way that has too much passion… then the second time they kiss (when he black mails her) she throws herself into the kiss, and she was currently with Edward and well she was going to get marreid to him… what do you think about that? I have a question for you guys.. i was reading this magazine called “life and stlye” or something like that and it says that Bob is jealous of kristen and Taylor… it also says he crys and that there is physical stuff in there… what do you think.. please tell me.. thanks and again i love the show…
Ummmmmm. I dont really care for Jacob. I guess the best friend qualtiy(s) about him are that he is always there. During New Moon (of course) he is there as Bella’s sholder to cry on. In Eclipse, he is there to keep Bella safe from Victoria ( my favorite bad vampire, becaue she never gave up). Lastly in Breaking Dawn he is there through Bella’s pregnancy just to keep watch over her. He is kinda in a way like a little puppy dog. (I just had to say that. hahahahaha) No matter how much you hurt them/him they always come back!
Was Bella leading him on. Heck yes. She led him on. Period. She makes him think he has a chance with that kiss in Eclipse ( the one on the mountian side, not the one where she broke her hand), then she took it all away from him. Hmmmmmmmm. In a way it was kinda a good thing she led him on cause then he wouldnt have stuck around for so long and he wouldnt have imprinted on Nessie (Gawd I hate that name but it is quicker to type.) until later. Ok Im done.

Taylor I love but Jacob ewwwwwww. theres is nothing good with him he is a not good person cuz he hates Edward. and No I really dont think she was leading him on. he new that she was heart broken and only wanted a friend, but noooooooooooo he had to go get all complicated!

I am on team Edward. Reading all of the books, up to Eclipse, I hated Jacob because he was trying, unsuccessfully, to take Edwards place. After reading Breaking Dawn and then rereading the series, I understand Jacob better. I loved reading from Jacob’s perspective. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like from Bella or Edward’s perspective. I love that Jacob is so relaxed. It is so easy to be his friend. The one flaw that Edward has is being overprotective. Jacob is so funny.
UGH! She was TOTALLY leading him on! Stupid girl!
I love how Jacob is just always there for her and just how whittty and sassy he is. And he just seems way comfortable to be around.
