David Slade Correction

Jun 15th, 2009 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Movie News

FEARnet has posted an updated version of yesterday’s interview with David Slade.  It seems that the director was misquoted about the “15-year-old girl” statement.  The original quote was It was tough for a middle-aged man to get into,” he admits, “since they are written for 15-year-old girls.”

Here is their correction:

“It was tough for a middle-aged man to get into,” he admits, “from the point of view of a 17 year old girl.  But once I got past that, I found them to be really good stories.”  He is especially excited about the great script from Dexter writer/producer Melissa Rosenberg.  Right now, they are still in preproduction, with plans to start shooting later in the year.”

  2. Emma says:

ok this makes me feel a little bit better that he like melissa’s script.

  3. ashley says:

boo! him he is trying to kis up up to us by being fake cause the true him pissed and continues to piss us off!!!! u all know it!!! come on!

  4. Robby says:

Err come on, really? As much as I love to think every person in thw world is honest, I truly think that this is just a bunch of bull crap.

How is that even a misquote? Even if it’s a “misquote”, how can you possibly misquote that? Of all the things that’s “misquoted”, it just so coincidentally happens to be the one thing I was bothered about.

Really, they are trying so hard to make him likable and it’s doing the total opposite effect. This is why I like and respect Chris Weitz in the sense that he doesn’t waste his time in trying to prove himself to the fans with words (excluding that one letter he had up in the very beginning). Instead, he focuses on the actual movie itself – trying to make it the best movie possible with his actual skills. Yea I know Eclipse haven’t started filming yet so I can’t really say much about David’s skills and effort, but I’m just sick of this “la la I’m nice because I’ve claimed to have read the books” stuff we’ve been reading in interviews.

Don’t get me wrong, I am very open to him being the director for Eclipse – but I don’t want pretty words and pretty promises, I really want to see Eclipse work out. I want him to actually show that he cares about the series (if not, then atleast Eclipse) from his effort and skills he puts into the movie.

Ok, that sounds better!!! I was pissed when I read the article yesterday, but it’s ok like that…

  6. Kate says:

Isn’t this the second time a “misquote” has happend with him? It seems kind of fishy. Maybe its him misspeaking, not everyone else misquoting.

  7. Hannahg says:

This doesnt really make me feel any better. If he though they were just ‘TEENAGE GIRL’ books, why the hell did he take this project on in the first place? I can totally see him opening the books up and being bored.
He does horror movies for crying out loud! I think he was the worst choice for a director for any of the twilight movies!

Im really worried about what he’s going to do to eclipse.

  8. Judith Akufo says:

I’m still not feeling him, Honestly, why does he have to be corrected so many times?

  9. Bea(FanOfTheMonth-March/April/May) says:

im not gonna judge him until the movie!

  10. Jessica says:

There are ALOT of emotional issues addressed in Eclipse- I’m worried!

I think he’ll be great with the action stuff and I can’t wait to see the new born fight from what he will bring to the screen, but what about the struggle of the love triangle- which is VERY important! 15 year old readers…..LOL……does he know this audience or not?!?!?!?!? We are not all 15 nor are we all 17 year old girls, but alot of us remember being young and in love for the first time.

It will be SO VERY unfair if he doesn’t get that and doesn’t connect with the emotional landscape that is Eclipse- if a middleaged man isn’t up for it than maybe Summit needs to address that issue first and foremost!

I can forgive the foot in mouth syndrome, because I suffer from that condition myself, but I am not directing a multi-million dollar event that millions of fans are waiting for- maybe he should just shut up and concentrate on bringing our characters to life in the most close to source way- I’m sure we have plenty of 15, 17 and on up girls/women who would love to give him their “perspectives” if it would help him relate better.

I reallly don’t know what to say.

  12. AMY KATHRYN says:

I couldn’t have said it better Jessica! Definitely worried, but holding out hope!

  13. Luna Eclipse says:

Yeah right… He didn’t get misquoted, he paid someone ALOT of money to say he misquoted.

  14. Ray says:

OH my gosh! I totally was thinking that too Luna Eclipse as SOON AS I SAAW THIS! So, I guess I can’t really judge until the movie, but I’m just not feeling for him. I’m worried about Eclipse because that’s my favorite book! (besides Twilight) So, ya I bet he totally paid someone a LOT to say that cuz everyone was totally mad at him for saying that and he wants to win the attention of the fans. So, I am totally worried, but since I don’t COMPLETELY know, I am still hoping that there is still hope out there in the Twilight Universe for Eclipse to be the great movie that it deserved to be!

  15. Brandi says:

I dunno…… I sure hope it really honestly was a misquote. Although it is fishy that he has had a lot of those lately???
