Meghan: What we’ll do is just start here, you’ll do one question and keep going around…

Letters to Twilight: No pressure!

(Laughing)

Meghan: So alright, go for it!

Stephenie: Wait! Wait, wait, wait! Do you all have your tape recorders on?

All: (Nodding and saying yes!)

Stephenie: First question, because we are going to deal with this right now, is Midnight Sun! Right? So we don’t have to…

All: (Lot’s of blabbering…)

Stephenie: I know that’s what everyone cares about.  I also know that the right answer would be for me to say “Oh yah, it’s done! And it’ll be out next month!”  But that’s not true.  It’s also not true that I’ve got a ton of work done on it, and that’s what I’m working on.  What’s true is that I’m really burned out on vampires.  And, I don’t want to write it badly.  So I want to wait until I’m excited about the material again, and I’m excited about Edward, and that it’s something that’s motivating.  You know, when a story is keeping me up at night, and I’m waking up at 4 am in the morning and thinking ‘Yes! That is what is what should happen in this moment!’  Then that is when I can write with happiness! So, right now it feels like homework… it really does.  And when things feel like homework they go very, very slowly for me.  So it’s still not a “It’s not gonna happen!” I want to do it when I can do it right.  You know, I have my share of human stubbornness, and I have to tell you, it’s a little bit hard when people are like “This is the only thing you can do, and it’s the only thing we care about!”  And, you’re kind of like a three year old, you want to be like “I’m gonna do what I wanna do!” Yah.  “You’re not the boss of me!”  So my mom has backed off a little bit.  Actually, I was at The Fray concert, and I was hanging out with the guys backstage.  They’re really cool, and I was talking to Isaac about it.  He was like, “I really want you to do that!”  And I was like “Oh my gosh!  Come on!”  You know I can’t get away from it anywhere.  And, we talked about stubbornness and reverse psychology.  I have this great thing he signed for me, it says “To Stephenie, Don’t work on that stupid book! Nobody wants it anyway!”  I have it by my computer.  That really is the right direction to go with me, because I’m like “Huh!  Maybe I should do it!  I’ll show you!”   Psychology!  Anyway, that’s Midnight Sun!  so, that should disappoint everyone!

Twilight Series Theories: I don’t think so!

Stephenie: Ok!  so now we’re done!  (Laughing) So, I’ll see you guys later!

All: (Laughing)

Letters to Twilight: That’s totally understandable.

Twilight Series Theories: I would rather wait.

Twilight Source: We’re not reading it until it’s done.

Twilight Series Theories: I haven’t read it!

Letters to Twilight: You haven’t!

Stephenie: The people I worry about are the haters. You know, that like to talk about what a horrible writer I am and all that stuff.  When I do write it they’re going to say “Oh, this was worse than the first half because now she did it badly!”  No matter what I do it’s going to be that way.  There’s a mental block there.  You know what people are going to say, so I have wait until it’s just me and the book again.  Then I can feel excited about it!  You know, sometimes I’ll sit and think about the car chase, that we don’t get to see from Bella’s perspective.  I have that one completely mapped out in my head.  That one wouldn’t be hard to get down. Stuff like that, it gets exciting. Cars.  Ya know!  The first car he steals I have picked out, and then the second one.  It get’s messy!  It’s gonna be great!  You have to get excited about things!  But, that’s Midnight Sun!

    • bnr84 says:

    • jess says:

btw you can read up to chapter 12 with her permission as its on her official website so yeah if you want her permission to read more go on her website because its technically permission

  2. Marietta Scaltrito says:

It is a shame betrayal played such a role in stopping Midnight Sun. Stephenie Meyer should finish it in her own time and space. My only criticism is that she should not be at all concerned about the people ready to pounce on her books with negative comments. She is too good for that and should know you only have to answer to yourself and meet your own standards, not the rest of the world. I’m sure Ms. Meyer never expected Twilight to soar with the stars and with that kind of fame, there is no shortage of envy. Please finish Edward’s story – it is fascinating and worth waiting for!

    • Deedee says:

I agree … Stephenie needs to remember that there are TONS of people out there that love her work and can’t wait for the Midnight Sun book to come out. We will wait patiently (or not so patiently) until she’s ready. 🙂 Those haters out there aren’t worth worrying about… there’s always someone out there full of negativity… but hopefully Stephenie wont worry about that too much and get excited about this book and finish it … for her true fans. 🙂 (And there are LOTS of them.) 🙂 I can’t wait for it to come out!!! I’m hoping it’s sooner than later.

  3. Scott says:

I’m with Marietta on that one. Stephanie Meyer should forget the “haters’. Seriously, you can not please everyone! Forget the haters write the book your way and focus on Twi-hearts! All ‘Twilight’ fans that heard about “Midnight Sun” are most likely ready to jump out of their skin! Twilight is a fan of kids from most likely 5yrs-50yrs of age! Finish “Midnight Sun” thinking of of the Twilight fans not the haters!

  5. lakki♥ says:

As much as I want to tell Stephenie to just forget about the book, I simply cant. See, I’ve read the partial draft on her website out of pure addiction to Twilight. I’m 32 and once I started (very recently), I simply couldn’t stop. I finished the entire series, including Bree Tanner, in 5 days. It was like death when I finished them all. Then I found Midnight Sun, and it was like reading an entire different book, because Edward’s viewpoint is so different to Bella’s!
Well, I would be the first one in South Africa to buy Midnight Sun if it ever gets published – Guaranteed. I’ve started on the first book again, and I’m picking up on lots of little things i’ve missed before.
Hopefully the addiction subsides, though I don’t know if it will – with Eclipse starting today. And since Stephenie doesn’t receive fanmail, I hope that she’ll at least read these comments – She’s a star!

    Thanks for Twilight, Stephenie!

    • Allison says:

Am totally with you LAKKI. I too am 32, a mother of 2 and only recently was hit with the Twilight bug. Before Twilight I had only read 4 books in my life. I first fell in love with the Movies Twilight & New Moon. (I never even knew the books existed before the movies) I finished all the books including Bree Tanner in 8 days, I simply couldn’t put them down and would have finished them much sooner if I didn’t have the expected destractions and breaks that are needed as a stay at home mum. The books are soooooo much better than the movies!
I too felt like something had died when I finished them all. I soooo wanted there to be more. I was sooooooo excited when I heard about Midnight Sun, and then totally devistated when I read it was not finished and un likley to be finished in the near future. (espically under the circumstances) I feel like we the fans are being punished for some other idiots actions. While I can understand SM’s dissapointment I would have purchased the book reguardless of the leak on the internet. I am about to start reading Midnight Sun (Well the first 12 chapters anyway) Such a shame I can’t have them in a book form (really limits when I can read it on the computer)
Stephenie if you do ever get this feed back (as we the fans have no other way to contact you) THANK YOU! for your Twilight saga :o) You have given me a love of books that I have never had before. ( I have used parts of my brain that have never been used before)….who cares what your critics say, you have been the only one who has given me a reason to read and that alone should silence your critics.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You Stephenie for sharing Twilight Saga with me and the world. :o)
Can’t wait till the full Midnight Sun is published. I would also LOVE to read more of the whole story I simply didn’t get enough and would love another book in the series with more of the Cullens, Bella, Edward, Resemee & Jacob. Feels like there’s more of the story I’d love to read.

      • Allison says:

Just Finished Midnight Sun (Well the first 12 chapters anyway) Loved it!
Loved getting a better understanding of Edward. Always buged me that he didn’t do anything more to the guys that tried to attack Bella, didn’t seam like he would have just let it go so someone else could be the new victom. I was soooo glad to read he had everything organised with Carlisle. Would love to see all the books from Edwards point of view, even from Alice’s view point would be very interesting. Anyway now I’m empty, will have to start reading all over again and no doubt will pick up more the second time round. Eagerly awaiting the finished Midnight Sun Release and of course The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide to be released later this year.
        Thank You Stephenie Mayer 🙂

      • Deedee says:

I’m 39 years old and it’s so nice to know that I’m not the only one that was sooo sad when I finished reading all the books. I just read them this past month and (it didn’t take me very long to finish them all.) I was so upset when I finished them and didn’t have another one to read next…. I’ve started reading them again! My husband thinks I’m nuts, but I can’t explain how I feel. when I’m reading the Twilight Series – I get into a “happy place.” And I yearn for more. I can’t wait to read Midnight Sun when it comes out (I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it DOES come out some day.) 🙂 🙂 🙂 Thank you Stephenie for putting some “excitement” in my life that I needed.

  6. Oregon Jo says:

One of my friends texted me the other day, “Don’t focus on the 1 guy who hates u. U don’t go to the park and set your picnic down next to the only pile of dog doo!” There will always be critics of Stephenie’s writing. But writing is just one way to tell a story. And obviously her story is what has driven this whole crazy Twilight thing – the movies, music, internet connections, groups of people who are all brought together by the shared power of the story she’s been telling. The Truth is that this story resonates with people, and it transcends a couple of books. We don’t want Midnight Sun because it’s going to be this piece of brilliant prose (although it may well be!) We just want to re-connect and go deeper with a story that has become ours. If Steph’s got writer’s block, then maybe Midnight Sun could be shared via another mode of communication entirely – Midnight Sun: The Musical, The Radio Drama, The Mini Sereies or The Graphic Novel perhaps? 🙂

  7. MN Mom says:

Thank-you so much for asking the question!!! I’ll keep hanging on till Stephanie is ready to return to “Midnight Sun” and write it from her heart. I do, however, hope that happens sooner than later — but no pressure, Stephanie! THANK-YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR CREATIONS SO FAR!!!

  8. Rebecca says:

It makes me so sad that the voice of the haters is more powerful than the voice of the lovers. Seriously, I sat at a movie theater this week for 5 hours waiting for the start of a movie and I have NEVER done anything like that (well, not since New Moon anyway). Doesn’t that speak volumes above the few jerks that can’t be happy for someone else’s success. I do want the book to be great and I will be waiting eagerly for it’s release!!!

  9. […] write it badly. So I want to wait until I’m excited about the material again…”. [TwilightSeriesTheories via SCI FI […]

  10. Beck says:

I can’t wait to read the full version of Midnight Sun. I am also new to reading the Twilight books and this is the first time I have ever picked up a book and not been able to put it down. They are written so well. I have never read anything that I wanted to keep going and going. I wouldn’t worry about the haters, I am sure there are more people out there addicted to the books then there are that don’t like them..!!!!!!! I am hoping the whole series will get written in Edwards point of view. How amazing that would be…!!!!

  11. Carrie Jones says:

There is a line in the on line Midnight sub draft that implies Edward’s mind reading doesn’t work in the rain or perhaps water in general.. that the rain shuts the noise out. I might be taking that to literally just found that really interesting. but I digress:)
I know everyone feels the need to stress about if Stephanie will return to these characters soon, but she’s painted herself in to a corner a bit with the subject matter. These folks don’t age, so the cast is here for her now, if she’s going to pursue this story further I’d imagine there is not a lot to worry about, she’ll have to do it sooner rather than later. She has left herself so much to work with I have a blast guessing how she’ll follow the threads. Vampire venom is deadly to Wolves…..gheesh!

  12. ilec says:

Edward’s viewpoint is fascinating. Twilight the movie redone from his viewpoint would be even better than from Bella’s. Imagine, each book then movie enjoyed again from Edward’s vantage point….Eclipse woulld be even hotter…
To me, Edward is the most compelling character. I hope SM will rekindle her vampire flames and give us Edward’s view of each book before moving forward from the end of Breaking Dawn. Whatever happends after Breaking Dawn, SM, please keep the Cullens a large factor in the story…and not just make the book focused on mostly Renesemee and Jacob. Anyways, SM, thanks for posting the first half of Midnight Sun…I am reading it as slowly as I can. It is such a imagnitave path you’ve created, and I don’t want to stop walking….

  13. Lara says:

I’m 25 years old. I know the stress about a story that… make us tierd. because we can see it over and over again in our heads. They life and make part of our days, and I can imagine the torture …. but SM feeded a world with a such amazing story…. that I’m just thirty to have more. I would love to say “yes, of course take your time.” but me and my lill sister are dieing to know the other point of view of the story …. we have inclusive created a 5th volume in our twiested minds (she is 11 and for some reason a vampire slayer should show up!) ok just to say what I think **grins

  14. Gissy says:

Oh god!! For real i want to read it so badly, i wanna have it in my hands looking at the pages of the great writer Stephanie Meyer, i mean she brought to life all this and just knowing that there is one undone it makes me anxious!! Take your time Stephanie!! do it! ill be waiting!! and ill be buying it with the same excitement like i bought the other ones =D

  15. Ileen Cuccaro says:

Well I must say I agree with a lot of you including Corrine. First off I would like to say that although everyone thinks that Twilight was the worst movie, I disagree. This is the one that started the phenomenon, I thought the cinematography was superb, the story simple, the music played a large part and told some of the story with no dialogue. I also thought Edwards role was stronger. Kristen to me does not do the part of Bella justice, no one can see the total fascination that Edward has, except maybe that he can not read her mind and there-fore that is the draw. Her acting is sorely lacking in all the movies and I am finding it difficult to see the attraction that anyone can see to make her his true love or obsession. There is simply no personality, not even laughter… but they were somewhat equal in their Love for each other. Of course I saw the movie before I read the book so maybe that was it. The other 2 movies I read the book first so was looking for a lot more.
Now as far as NM goes, I still found it ok, although Edward should have been it more, it was like he was an after thought. I loved the way they did the holograms, but there should have been a few scenes to see what he was doing and coping. That would have made the movie better just for those reasons.
Now Eclipse, The second and third time I saw it were better than the first, maybe it was the excitement of looking forward to this movie with such anticipation. Of course at this point I have read all the books and thought that the story line was just not followed correctly. I can attribute my first viewing to the millions of packed pans in the theatre screaming ect, LOL.
But to me the biggest is that these screen writers and Director are just putting their own spin on the movie. The fans want the book version not the screen writer or director version, that is where the true love of this saga comes from.
I left the first viewing so disappointed, I felt like the whole movie was one big long string of movie trailers just slapped together. I want with a friend of mine who did not read the books and had no clue what was going on. I had to explain to her which is not the way a movie would be perceived, the movie should be understood even though you have not read the books.
First off I feel like they are marginalizing Edwards role and making Bellas bigger. We love the romantic side of him but also they are making him look weak and her stronger, that is not how the book is written. The added scenes in the movie that was not in the book including Riley and the Mom scene, these were implied in the book there-fore did not have to be in the movie. It was an unimportant part, the Riley scene could have been 30 seconds if they wanted some history for him. They then left out a ton of dialogue and important scenes from the book, that would have given the movie the continuity and flow that was required. Instead of one big movie trailer.
When Bella and Edward had the scene with Jacob with the motorcycle that was a cluster&%$$$. It was supposed to be Edward giving Bella the helmet and Jacket and also take Bellas Motorcycle back to Jacob for her to ride with him then for him to sell. He put it in the back of his truck for her. It was also meant for Jacob and Bella to continue their friendship and Edward being OK with that. That scene was a joke and made no sense.
Some great scenes missing of course is more accurate dialogue, Alice kidnapping Bella, the proposal, when Alice asked Bella does she not Love her and getting ready to plan the wedding. It was just the end part where Edward is asking if it is ok that Alice was doing it.
Most strongly is that Bella saying she wanted to become a Vampire because she does not belong in her own world is ludicrous. That was not the way of it at all. She wanted to of course because of him. They changed the whole meaning of that in the Movie as if it were a feminist thing. And her saying that she wanted to hyphenate her last name when Edward said Mrs. Cullen was obtuse as well.
I could go on and on about what could have been done better. Including the shooting of it, too many closeups, the leg scene I did not even know what was going on till the scene was over. That scene should have been zoomed out, Rosalie’s Wedding dress scene should have been the same.
The part where Edward gave her the heart shaped diamond for the bracelet should have been explained better knowing it was being passed down from his Mom. Also the proposal should have really exemplified his old fashioned principles better. Ah lest I forget the end scene with Victoria it appears that Bella saved Edward when she cut herself, that is not true from the book, Seth was already ripping Reily apart and Edward was almost done with Victoria so that scene should have been done differently instead of making Bella look like the hero. Pus they should have been torn to pieces as per the book to actually kill them.
I know this is long and I have condensed but wanted other twi fans to understand how I feel about this.
The entire saga and Books are huge and I can say that the fans would have loved them that much more if they were true to the book, instead of interpretation by the screen writer or director.
I can only imagine that they will make Bella like the Queen of the freakin Vampires when they do breaking dawn.
She does not have the acting ability nor the personality of a heroine to pull it off, The movies need the other characters to fulfill this last book. And stop with their interpretation already.
So to end I have seen this movie 3 times already, will see it again and most certainly buy it when it comes out as I have done the others as well as all the sound tracts for all the movies.
The sound tract for this movie was really great and should have been more a part of the movie as Twilight was in the first. All in all I Love the wolves CG, Everyone has a bigger role which is great the effects are good.
So I guess you could say I love the movie even with all its downfalls because I love the books and the characters. Well except Bella, sure wish I could get my hands around her.
I would love to see Midnight Sun from Edwards point of view, I think his is a lot more interesting than Bellas

    • Elspeth says:

I completely understand where you’re coming from with the whole Kristen acting thang. And I know tht the movies are nothing like the books but the directors just can’t put everything from the books in, they have to condense and adapt it in a way that compliments the books but makes sense on it’s own as well. I also would LOVE to read all the books from Edwards perspective as I also think that he is much more interesting to read than Bella.

      • Dennis says:

Elspeth, I also see where you are coming from, but whatever you say the movies are still rubbish. As a Canadian, I really don’t understand Robert Pattinson’s failed attempts at an American accent, and compared to the books the strength of the characters just seem to get worse as the films go on, not stronger like the books do. I completely disagree that the films compliment the books. People who haven’t read the books have no idea from the films how much more there is to the characters and the story in general. I was very disappointed with the films and I always will be.

  16. Terry says:

Steph should take as long as she needs. These books have been wonderful and she deserves a little time off. As to how she could continue the series if she chose, there’s still plenty of material out there. The Volturi are still around and holding a grudge. Rennesme will reach maturity within seven years of the ending of BD, so there’s always that storyline that could be pursued. Her and Jacob moving from child and adult into a real adult relationship.

I don’t know how everyone else feels, but I’d like to see more of Wanda and a sequel to The Host.

Of course those are just my opinions…

  17. Cassidy Galloway says:

I seriously hate that her first draft stopped right before the meadow scene…but I guess that scene from Edward’s perspective is tough to write…even for a genious like Stephenie! I can’t wait ’till it comes out!!!! I am a writer myself and I agree that is DOES feel like homework if you’re not exited about what you’re writing…she should forget the haters and do it on her own schedule…until then, I’ll be patient even of it gets really hard!!!!

  18. leigh cornwell says:

hi im just saying i think that she is the best writer that i have ever come across i can really get into the books and go into a world of my own. i didnt really bother at first but then my friend gave me the first book and after reading half of it i was hooked i am now in love with twilight. i am looking forward to midnight sun because i read all 4 twilight books i 2 month and need something else lol i just hope she takes her time and makes it as long as possible lol. i dont think she should worry about all the haters i think they seacratly like it lol. good look on the book or books and im looking forward to it and will be the first to get it lol love leigh xxxxx

  19. Michele says:

I am a 40 yr old woman who is amazed how much I fell in love with all the Twilight Books… They were all written beautifully. Believe me it takes a lot for me to get wrapped so deep into a story…especially to complete each… and read them all more than once was just unbelievable. Especially vampires & werewolves. BUT I did. A year or so my youngest tells me about Midnight Sun and how she heard you stopped writing this beacause of it being leaked…Not sure if this is an accurate statement or not however I refused to read it for that simple fact. However I have just read it today and although I hear you need to be motivated & inspired before you begin to finish it…I feel compelled to tell you what a great writer you are- I also understand the reverse psychology things you speak of …But I’m not doing either… Just wanted to share my grattitude with you – you have made me want to read once again. Made me feel like a part of me is still young. I would love you to complete Midnight Sun… as you have brought so much life to Edward… this book is undeniable one of the best stories I have read. So I am keeping my ears and eyes opened with hopes of you being awaken once again to the charecters you made so many of us fall in love with.

  20. ann says:

Three years ago I have heard of the Twilight books but I simply wasn’t interested. I was long past those kind of books… or so I thought. Then one night I rent the first movie and I was never the same again. I’ve read thousands of books, both fiction and non-fiction but I was never touched the way the series did affect me. Even with the tons of books that I’ve read I can never claim to be expert in knowing how well a certain book is written or the genius of the writer. All I can say for sure is that Stephanie’s writing has touched a chord deep within me that no book has ever done… not even close. The Cullens will forever be part of who I am no matter that they were just product of Stephanie’s genius. I can not think of a more apt description of a gifted writer than being able to create imaginary people that would become part of the lives of real people for a long, long time… if not forever.

I, too, have read Midnight Sun – and I am grateful for Stephanie for giving us a glimpse of what Edward was going through. The book, though, unfinished is like a gift – something unexpected like a sort of miracle – because through the Twilight series Stephanie has given us so much already.

I, too, felt so much sadness when I had to put down the last of the book – like you lost someone you loved very deeply.

I hope that in time Stephanie will find in in her heart to complete the book and thus give us the miracle of her writing once more. And yes, all of the books in Edward’s point of view would be an incredible thing to look forward to.

  22. Kate says:

I love all the Twilight saga, and have read Midnight sun (the approved one on her website!) twice. I am not blowing smoke here, Stephenie is a great writer, compelling and gifted. We are all drawn to the story and love these characters. I read a ton, and love all kinds of literature, and I give her high recommendation. She is imaginative and knows where these characters go and how they think and shares it with us through the beauty of the written word. SO thats for the any haters!

I really hope she will get past her burn out (understandable as it could be for her) on the vampire world. She alone has figured out to create their world in a way that appeals to all generations. I seriously hope she gets the FULL excitement and inspiration again to finish this magnatizing story and then continue to shed further character development of Edward/vampire perspective through the entire series. It really completes it and helps us understand the whole picture. Its a gift, and I really wish we could all encourage her to feel the readiness to write. As well, that it would flow in creative process as if it were flying on to the page and into our hands- quickly!

  23. K. Anderson says:

I think we all feel so touched by the Twilight Saga because it was like we watched Bella grow up and it was like she was someone we really knew.Victoria became our enemy Alice became our eccentric best friend and sister-in-law And i think thats what would propel us to read Midnight Sun its like being there to see how Edward reacts to these situation we so greatly gravitated towards with Bella’s side although i would love to be holding the completed Midnight Sun in my hands i think SM should do it her way =)

  24. shaylee says:

I really hope Stephenie finishes midnight sun i have read the chapters on her web site and i think the book will be great. i think that midnight sun will be better than twilight because from edward’s perspective you get more out of it and you understand it more. PLEASE Stephenie can you finish midnight sun i can’t wait till it is finished. In writing midnight sun you get more of an idea of edward and what he was going throught please finish it. i have read the first twelve chapters and i think it is awsome.

  25. Jessica says:

I just wanted to say thank you Stephenie your a very gifted writer also I’d like to ask whatever your working on just make sure your happy doing it =)

  26. Claudia says:

HEY Meyer I’ll will wait for ”Midnight Sun” so take ur time!!

  27. Rani says:

    Dear Stephenie
Loved all your books including The Host (especially The Host). I am eagerly waiting for you next novel. Whatever the title or subject – it will be just as beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
    Regards

  28. Cherine says:

I can’t wait for Midnight Sun to be out! Really hope that SM will share Edward’s POV for the other 3 books too. There are so many things I wanna know:

    New Moon
    – His mental anguish when:

Who knows, Twilight may even be made into a TV Series in the future. Would love to hear what questions other fans have regarding Edward too ….

    • Maddison says:

I completely agree! There is so much I would love to see from Edward’s point of view. If all the books were rewritten from Edward’s pov I would die of happiness, but sadly i seriously doubt it’s ever going to happen since Stephenie can barely get motivated to finish midnight sun because she is getting bored with vampires and that would be a huge project to undertake. But i agree it would be amazing…

    • Maylene says:

It is fascinating reading Edward’s point of view on Midnight Sun and I pray that Stephenie Meyer would be inspired to finish writing it and also write versions of her other twilight saga books as well. All Twilight fans would surely support her and purchase these books. These were the best books I have ever read and I look forward for her future publications.

      • Elspeth says:

I would love that too! I think it would be amazing to hear all about Edward’s struggles with self-control. Everything is so much clearer through Edward’s point of view and it gives a new depth to the Saga.

  29. Kate says:

I totally understand that she wants to wait to be motivated so the book will be good but I’m going crazy waiting! I read the chapters posted on Stephenie’s website and it is so cool seeing things through Edward’s eyes and the scenes we missed when it is told from Bella’s point of view. It absolutely killed me when it was over because i wanted to finished the story so badly! But even though we have to wait, it’s comforting knowing that there is hope that one day we will be able to read the completed midnight sun! And seriously Stephenie don’t worry about the haters because obviously they just don’t get Twilight. There are so many people who absolutely love everything you do and have confidence that you will write an amazing book when you’re ready and all of us will be anxiously waiting 🙂

  30. Karen Powell says:

I recently had surgery and as I was recovering, got bit by the Twilight bug! I’m in my 40’s and LOVE all the books and movies. I watched the first two on my dvr and pay per view. Then made my 11 year old niece “take” me to see Eclipse. I just finished reading Breaking Dawn and can’t wait till the next book!

  31. nicole says:

Latley ive been thinking about midnight sun a lot and i was thinking that I would do almost ANYTHING to read the finished copy! Stephanie Meyer is an awesome writer and as soon as the date comes out for Midnight Sun, I will be counting down every second of it. Twilight is amazing and I would do almost anything for her to finish Midnight Sun.
    Please finish 🙂
And THANK YOU for creating such a phenomenal series!!

  32. Asmi says:

I just wanted to say that Stephanie Meyer u r a awesome writer……………………… plz finish Midnight Sun as soon as possible………as for me I always wanted to know Edward’s point of view in the story n i cant wait to read the book………………
Please for Twilight-fans publish it soon…………………….
Waiting eagerly for the book ………………………………….

  33. Ann says:

I hope you do finish this series Stephanie. I am an avid reader. I was very skeptical to read this about vampires. But from the first 5 minutes I was so entrigued. I cannot believe how wonderful this story is. I am in love with these books. I have not read the unpublished midnight sun and refuse to do so. I am waiting patiently until you finish it and publish it. Although I am so ready to read it. I just hope you find the motivation soon to complete it. I feel so bad for you that this has happened to you and broke your line of concentration and excitement on your Twilight project. But in your own time I pray that you will get back your excitement on this project. Just remember, you have millions of people waiting on you to finish it. Forget about the negative people. In every line of work they are out there and who cares what they say. All of us fans need an ending to this story we feel in love with and that is all in your hands. So please take your time but please finish it sooner than later.

  34. Donna says:

The beauty of Midnight Sun is that we finally understand what was going on with Edward, I mean from Bella’s perspective he hates her then she’s the most important thing in the world to him. It was so abrupt, without Midnight Sun, Edward, though delicious & dreamy, is a little 2 dimensional, this makes him understandable and more manly. Before reading what was posted on Stephenie’s website, I thought he was kind of a pushover, even after reading the other four books.

As a recovering writer (journalist) I totally get not wanting to work on a story, I think most writers are at their most creative when they’re procrastinating. So I would urge Stephenie to go ahead & procrastinate by writing other great stuff. And I hope she’ll give us the rest of Edward’s story eventually. He is far too interesting & much sexier when we get to know his perceptions. After reading Midnight Sun I had to re-read the others (again!) & found myself more caught up in wonder at what Edward thought about what was happening.

If on the very off chance Stephenie should read this, “Don’t let the bastards grind you down!” and thanks for creating this amazing fantasy world! Very few authors capture the whole world’s attention, congrats & keep it up!

  35. Monique says:

Im a student, currenly busy with my last year of studies. But most of you will understand that students have a lot more time to do stuff than people with full time jobs, kids and so on.
When i watched the first movie, not even on cinema, at home… (at the begining i didn’t think that much of it).
Then it hit me, can’t explain, but it realy hit me hard! I watched the movie, and i rememberd i heard someone say there were books written on the story, so if i wanted to know what happens next, i can go buy the book…..
Sorry Stef big mistake!!!! I should have never gone to exclusive books to buy new moon! But i did! Went home, and started reading, i can still remember the time. I got in my car the morning after watching twilight again, at 10am… South african time! Was back at the student house at 11, made myself a cup of coffee, got back in my pajamas, got in bed, and started reading…. If i can remember correctly i got out of bed only, to go make coffee, to go to the bath room and once to go make someting to eat “fast”. I stopped reading that night bout 11pm, put the book on the bedside table, turned out my lamp and slept. Woke up at three am, put on the bedside lamp, took the book and started reading again. Finished with the book at exactly 10am a day after buying it. Went to go brush my teeth and hair, got in the car and went to buy eclipse and braking dawn….. And did exactly the same, till i was finished with braking dawn! The next week i started again, but i went to by twilight the book before begining again. The same happend with midnight sun, i should have never started to read the draft!
I could kick myself, because that same thing that hit me the first time around came back, but with much greater force!!!! You gave me the reason to wake up at 3am in the morning to read, i hope i can have that again!!!! I will also be waiting for the real Midnight sun, and i realy hope that, that same force that hit me the second time around comes knoking on your door, and it that it hits you with lots of love and ideas!!! So that Edward and all the people in your twilight world becomes new and exciting again…. The stories i make up in my head is just not good enough, they actually suck!!!!!!

  36. Cassie says:

    All I’ve got to say is . . .
No matter what Stephanie writes, I’m hooked til’ the end (and further, usually.). If she doesn’t want to write about vampires, that’s totally cool with me. As long as it’s as detailed and intriguing as her previous works, I’ll be happy. I would like Midnight Sun to come out eventually, but for now, it’s okay that it’s unfinished. I just hope it doesn’t remain so forever, because I loved the manuscript. It has even more magic than Twilight, and you can finally see exactly why Edward loves Bella. But if she moves on to another project, it’s fine by me. I loved Host, too, and any other stand-alone books would definitely be welcome!

  37. anggie says:

I read the Midnight Sun draft at Stephenie’s website… and I cannot wait for the next chapter ! please write the series of Twilight Saga from Edward side … so excited about it …. I read the 4 books twilight saga already for 5 times! …LOVE it soo much ! go on Stephenie !…

  38. Asmaa says:

I just want to say that this : English is not my first language and before twilight I have never read anything written in English outside my school books .. I just hate spending time on the dictionary and am kinda of the type that has to know the meaning of every word in the story to understand it perfectly .. one day after watching new moon I got very curious and wanted to know what happens next so I started reading twilight the books .. And I haven’t stopped reading them since then ,, and I started to read all different kind of books written in English .. Discovering a new world out there but still I have to read a bit of twilight before I start anything new.

  39. LeeLee says:

i just wanna say….stephanie should in no way be worried about the haters. like 8 bajillion people LOVE the series and it got picked up for movies and its all mega successful. there are way more lovers than haters. eff them. keep doing what you love, girl! (and ps….that series keeps me sane when i volunteer for months at a time in the bush in africa with no tv, phone, internet….without them id probly be a naked savage in the bush. thanks!)

  40. Shannon says:

I am a lot like a lot of the other people on here, whom have recently become obsessed. I saw the first two movies, and decided I would wait for all movies to be done to read them. Well after I watched Eclipse I couldn’t wait anymore, I started bugging everyone that had read the books to find out what had happened. I am 31, and a single mom, I stayed up way later and made excuses for my daughter to watch another movie so I could keep reading. When I was at work all I would want to do is get home so I could continue to read. Stephanie you are a phenomenon. I understand that you need to get back into the story, but I wouldn’t worry about the haters out there. Even if the the whole story of Midnight Sun got leaked, I guarantee that the majority of the Twilight fans would still be buying so we could read that over and over again. Edward’s point of view is so much more, and I love getting to know the Cullens better. It would be really cool as well if you continued on when Reneesme got older with Jacob, and where all of them have landed. And if the two of them had kids, my mind has imagination, but I would love to know where yours go to. But thank you Stephanie, for bringing reading back to me.

    • Ellie says:

I always imagine the future of the characters in books and the Twilight Saga especially, I am intrigued to know how Edward would have handled Bella’s pregnancy and how he sees her as a vampire. Another thing that I am truly wanting to know is where he went and how he coped during New Moon. I have imagined all of these things for myself but, like you Shannon, would love to know how Stephanie’s imagination would create these different points of view and how they differ from what I imagined myself.

  41. Ellie says:

I am slightly obsessed with all of the books and I think it would be amazing for Stephanie to right each one from Edward’s perspective. But of course it is impossible for her to that straight away and like the rest of you I am waiting excitedly for Midnight Sun to be completed. I haven’t read any further than the second chapter because I can’t read something that is not finished. But I don’t mind how long it takes to complete it because | can guess that she is slightly bored and pressurized by her audience. I don’t even mind that each of the books from Bella’s perspective don’t get written from Edward’s, but has anyone else ever wondered what Breaking Dawn would be like through Edward’s thoughts? Reply with your thoughts. And thankyou Stephanie, you have provided me with days of enjoyment.

  42. Lisa says:

Ive only recently got addicted to twilight im a 33 year old mum of 3, i read all the books in 4 days all the way through the books i always wondered about edwards feelings what he thought and how he felt, when i found your draft copy of midnight sun on your website i was completely engrossed yet again…… i read it all cos i just couldnt stop. i would just like to say that stephannie you are a wonderful writer and what happened with the midnight sun was a terrible thing and i completely understand why you stopped writing. i would also like to say though i think completing midnight sun would be a big in your face for the people who want you to fail. i know some day you will get your feelings back into writing edwards story and when you do ill certainly be getting a copy. 🙂 but would really just like to say your awesome x

  43. jamie says:

Fan of her books yes. love them all. On her website I couldn’t resist reading what she posted of midnight Sun. I as well would enjoy the complete saga told from Edward’s point of view. But I would want it from Stephenie wanting to do it. I am sure she was hurt and angry about the situation surrounding the manuscript. We will all just have to wait and send good karma her way and hope she find her love of vamps to overpower the burnout. And who knows maybe if she gets a break from the vamp stories it will churn her creative juices for finishing the entire saga from his point of view.

  44. Mechelle says:

OMG I love the Twilight Saga… Sorry to say that first the saw the movies..Twilight, New Moon and then I was going to see Eclipse but got sick and didnt go so then I saw the book breaking dawn and decided to buy it… I am not a reader unless it draws my attention.. I could not put breaking dawn down.. I am married with three kids and this is my escape.. I could not put the book down and when I did I was always thinking about the story. Now I am going to see Eclipse but first I shall read the book. I wished that I had started with the first book and then went in order. Stephenie is such a great writer. I went to her website and read Midnight Sun….OMG I love it she has got to finish it. I hope that she starts another series of books I will definitely continue to read her books

  45. vickifb says:

I would just like to say that although I have read the draft of midnight sun on SM’s website I am not sure if she should finish it. The twilight saga is precious and well loved and I, like everyone else, will be forever in love with the cullens, however after reading the host, I would really love to read something brand new from her. I read the short second life of bree tanner, and although it was very interesting to read that part of eclipse from a very different perspective, it did not have the magic of the other books from the saga. I personally feel that the cullens story has been told and that their future lives should be left to the imagination of the readers. it would be very sad for the original books to be spoilt by further books wrriten, not with passion, but because of the pressure SM would be under to continue the franchise.

  46. Brittany says:

I think Stephanie should finish the midnight sun book. There was a reason, she began writing it in the first place. There is a passion and connection with the series that, she created. Twilight is an amazing series. There is so much creativity and love in the books. I believe that Stephanie is an amazing person, as well as talented. If Midnight sun is finished and released, I would definitely be purchasing it. I am thoroughly inspired by her creativity.

  47. Laura says:

I am a forty-year-old English Professor who has become obsessed with the Twilight Series. Stephanie, you have gotten my students to love reading in a way that I have never seen before. Then, you hooked me. I read all the time, but I don’t like to re-read. I, however, have read each of your books at least three times. Edward is a miricle. What he teaches us about self-control and self-restraint is so profound. Your books make this a better society, and so you are my hero. Besides, these books are shot through with eros–and that’s a quality missing in this culture. Please give us more tantalizing Midnight Sun!

  48. Alexia says:

I am a 24 year old single parent. I have always had a slight obsession with the paranormal and fantacy world. When i first her about the the Twilight Saga and saw the insanity which was the Twihearts, I was curious however i did not act on my curiosity. I first impression before reading the novels or seeing the movies was another Teeny-bobber series. Boy was i proven wrong and glad for it. i saw the movie Twilight and New Moon before i read the books and fell in love right then. And when i was given the oppurtunity to Read the novels, I couldn’t stop. Im a repetitive reader and what ever i like ill read numerous time. With Twilight, it was an addiction. I finishe all four novels in 5 days which is fast even for me( a speed reader) 🙂 I am not in the process of reading them all over agian. I havent loved reading this much since I first got into Fear Street in the sixth grade. Thank you so much Stephanie for sharing this amazing story and your wonderful talents with your fans. My mom always told me that It doesnt matter what other people say or think as long as you’re happy with yourself and your accomplishments nothin else matters. You are an amazing writter and again I thank you for sharing your works with us your fans. The Midnight Sun Draft was awsome. Cant wait for it to be complete.
Patiently awaiting you next work. 🙂

  49. Emma says:
