Jacob & Bella’s Blossoming Friendship

Apr 7th, 2009 | By | Category: Featured Articles, Question of the Week, Site News

Next week we will be discussing Kassie’s favorite topic (sarcasm noted) Jacob andd Bella!  I have a feeling we will be chasing little bunnies named Taylor, but I will try my hardest to keep Kassie on the topic at hand!

So let us know…

What ‘friend’ quality do you MOST like about Jacob? And, do you think Bella was leading him on all along?

  1. Rikki says:

I think the best quality is that he is unintentionally funny. Somtimes like at the end of Eclipse he says serious things that kinda sound corny/funny but their not ment to be. He has that blossoming child in him even though he is 16. One more thing is that he is immature but it hears people up when he is. Like in New Moon he has sooo much sarasm it racks Bella up (more like keeps her from the thoughts of Edward).

Heyy Guys!!!!!(Just a heads up I’m totally team edward and this is REALLY hard!)

Jacob’s best quality, in my eyes, is his sense of humor! Bella was heart broken and needed a friend. She tried to reconnect with her friends after her deep depression, but they really didnt feel as devoted to become freinds again.(Jessica’s reaction to Bella in Port Angeles)Bella needed a comic relief to her life(she was getting ver annoying!) and Jacob provided that! I know hes not a class clown and is crackin jokes one after the other. His sense of humor is very subtle and I admire that in him.

As to Bella leading Jacob on, i think both parties are guilty! Bella it think it was more subconcious like their deep conversation and her need for Jacob not as much as a want. Its almost that her exsistance would be meaningless without him. Jacob I think was more the PDA type like holding hands, hugging, and putting his arm around her. A prime example was when Jacob and Bella were in Bella’s kitchen and Jacob had Bella’s face in his hand. it was almost as if they were going to kiss(i hated that!) WHEN EDWARD(who Jacob thinks is Carlisle) CALLS AND THINKS THAT CHARLIE IS AT BELLA’S FUNERAL!**GASP!**

Love the podcast keep it up!

  3. Rachel says:

I love Jacob! i think one of the best things about Jacob is that in comparison to Edward Jacob is such an upper (Edward is sort of a downer ever though i do love love love love him) Jacob is so funny and happy all the time

  4. Mimi says:

    OOOH!!! I like this question!!!!
I was actually just rereading New Moon the other day for the 13th time and I realized I actually CHANGED from Team Edward to Team Jacob [of course, this has nothing to do with the fact that I imagine Taylor Lautner when I hear Jacob Black 😛 ]

I thought it over and said, “You know, Jacob isn’t nearly as bad as I always thought he was…”
Then I noticed that he had many qualities that my best guy friend in the whole wide world has, not to mention amazingly good looks being one of them. 🙂

So, finally getting to the actual answer, my favorite Jacob quality [other than his looks, of course] is his outgoing-ness. I don’t know about some people but all of my friends love a guy who is easy to hang out with and can make the first move.
I absolutly HATE it when I have to be the one to introduce myself to a guy.

Now, about Bella, I realized after rereading New Moon that I really don’t like her that much anymore, and I swear it’s not because she has almost everything I want!!.But it’s treally bacuse she has everything and taked advantage of it. Jake is such an amazing friend people would kill for!!! If I had him [and in a way I do because my friend I mentione before is so much like him] I would do everything in my power to make him happy and be the best friend that I could. I think even though Bella in a way told Jackob how she felt, she was still leading him on. She held his hand and acted like he was the best thing that ever happened to her. Even though I realize she needed him, she shouldn’t have, used him. If it wasn’t that Edward left, she wouldnt even have went to find Jacob.

Sorry its so long! I love the show! Keep up the good work!!!!!
Mimi- no longer team edward , now team jacob! 🙂

  5. Sonia says:

Mimi, it totally had to do with Taylor 😛
And I see your point. Jacob does have many good/nice/intresting/sweet features. But I’m still Team Swtizerland/Edward/Jasper .<
    ILY MIMI! 😀 <3

  6. TwilightGirl says:

Hi Kallie and Kassy! I love love love LOVE your website/podcasts! To answer your question, when it comes to Jacob, Kassy I’m like you… kinda. I just want to say , I HATE JACOB BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hate, hate hate hate!!! Warning: Spoilers ahead. He imprinted on Bella’s DAUGHTER, (I wish Seth wouldn’t have got in the way when Bella almost killed him in Breaking Dawn…)and abandoned her in New Moon!! Edward left to keep her safe.. well, Jacob did too, but he did it the second time which makes it worse, I don’t know, I’m bad at making up excuses. And I do think Bella was leading him along. ( I liked it,except that it was hurting Edward too… so I didn’t like it.) As you can see, I am a hardcore Team Edward fan. If however you’re a Jacob fan please don’t kill me. There’s really only one thing I like about Jacob. His sense of humor. I’ll admit it, he can be so funny! I do know that people like Jacob are real than Edward(because they’re probably all taken… grrr) ,but I can’t help it to love Edward more! Also-sorry to bring something non Twilight related-but if you’re ever looking for a good read the, FableHaven books are really cool! Not very much romance, but cool.

  7. Reema B. says:

Hey girls. Okay, I’ll keep this short and simple.
I absolutly love Jacob because of his BFF qualities. He is a great and loyal friend, who is caring and sensitive, but not too soft. That is my favourite part about him… and he knows how to have a good time and have fun.
No, I dont think that Bella was leading him on. She made it very clear to Jacob that she loves Edward and only loves Jacob as a friend or a brother, nothing more. I know that a lot of people think that Bella was selfish and cruel, but I think we would all do the same–you’d want an awesome boyfriend like Edward, but everyone needs a loyal friend too, like Jacob, she just wanted them both, but in different ways. That is why she freaked when she had to choose between vampire and werewolf.

  8. hayley-reigh says:

I think it’s great that he just knew stuff about bella she never told him. Jacob just understood her completely, they had that connection. Such as when he yelled at mike for turning on the radio because he somehow knew that bella hated music. and he knew that bella was in pain but he didn’t push it. he protected her even though he she didnt feel the same way about him. he was a good friend because he was willing TO BE HER FRIEND when he wanted so much more.

annnddd i think that bella lead him on but she was totally unaware of it…because bellas just an idiot when it comes to guys.
    let’s just face it.

  9. Kasha says:

For the first part of the question, I would have to say his loyalty to Bella above and beyond normal friendship. He knows how much in love with Edward she is, and that she will probably never love him the same way, and yet he lets her use him to stitch her heart back together, no matter how jagged the pieces are.

As far as did Bella use him… I think she did, although she did it untentionally. She saw Jacob as a tiny ray of sun in her dark and dismal life, and she clung to that ray like a drowning person clings to a life preserver. She realizes later on that Jacob would probably read more into her actions than she intended, and she loved him so much (as her friend and life-saver) that she was even MORE heartbroken at the fact that she was about to break Jacob’s heart the way that Edward broke hers. She in fact does acknowledge that she was using him… she just couldn’t help herself- Jacob was tied into her heart in too strong of a way, and she was to unsure of herself to set Jacob free.

And ladies, I am SOOOOO glad I found this site! It’s so great to have “grown-ups” who love Twilight as much as I do! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

  10. Renatah says:

In my opnion, one of the best qualities of Jacob was that, specially in New Moon, he knew what make Bella fell bad, like listenning to music and that stuff, and was beside her helping her to get better. Althoug he wanted to be more than a friend, he was really great to her, and I fell like she wouldn´t be totally normal again when Edward came back, if wasn’t for him.

And yes, Bella kind of used him, but I don’t think she realize she was doing it. It would have been better to Jacob, however, if she had seen this by the time, and stop doing it, so he wouldn’t have so many hopes that she stayed with him at the end.

Love your site! Keep the good work!!

  11. Alice says:

Well, Jacob is just so good it is hard to decide. But I would say his caring nature and the way he lights up peoples days. Now there is something you don’t find in everyone. And he’s such a sweetheart, he cares more for Bella than himself…at times. He is just good, period. And I think Bella was leading him on. She knew from Twilight when Jacob came to visit her again that her flirting had worked too well (as she said) and if she knew Jacob liked her she should not have spent so much time with him. You cannot do that to guys (no offence to the guys of this world!) but you just can’t. No girl and boy can be best friends, its not possible. And if it is there is always that hint of flirtation about the pair, like they want to be together but can’t. Like something is holding them back. So, yes Bella was leading him on and then in Eclipse when she could not choose between the two?!?!?! She is meant to be true to Edward, what the hell is wrong with her? She loves Edward, sure keep Jacob as a friend, but a distant friend. Not a best friend she keeps leading on to like her. Yes, as you can see Bella is not my most favourtie character of the Twilight series. And though she may have done it unintentionally she should have known better as a mature woman what she was doing to him and how much it would hurt when she ripped herself from him.
Oh yes, I agree, this is the best website ever!!! I’ve been on heaps other but this is the most outstanding amongst them all!!!
    And I agree with hayley-reigh:
“annnddd i think that bella lead him on but she was totally unaware of it…because bellas just an idiot when it comes to guys.
    let’s just face it.”
You go girl! You are totally right!!!
Sorry to any who disagree but as hayley-reigh said it, “lets just face it.”

  12. LAURA says:

Hi!!!!!!!! I love the podcast!!!!!!! Ye are so funny!!!!!! Okay well, Jacob is not one of my favourite characters but I think he is very interesting! But he is very loyal and I think Bella was wrong to lead him on in New Moon when Jacob left her for a while after he became a werewolf Bella realised she needed him but not the way she neded Edward! In Eclipse when Jacob tricked Bella into kissing him is when i really saw how immature he was but that might just be his age. After that I really became Team Edward and Switzerland because that was really horrible of him and if I was Bella and I found out that he taricked me into kissing him, I would be infuriated!!!!!!! I would go off with the amazing Edward Cullen and never forgive Jacob until he deserved to be forgivin!! But I still think that Bella was at fault when leading Jacob on !!!!!! So ya my answer was pretty complicated but I hope ye understood it!!!!!!

  14. Meggie says:

Jacob annoys me very much but his best quality for Bella is his ability to brighten her day. He kind of makes you forget the task at hand and just have fun. As for Bella leading him on I don’t think she was until Eclipse. Jacob is just an egomaniac and would think any girl was leading him on. He deluded himself into thinking Bella was interested in him and in the end I think he forced her to be interested.
    Love the podcast!
    XOXO!
    Meggie!

  15. Amanda says:

see, i never thought jacob was good at all. i knew he brightened her day and made her feel better but i always felt like he only did it to get her to fall in love with him too. i never thought he truly cared b\c he couldnt just accept that she was never going to love him like she loved edward. so it was like he brought all his “pain” upon himself. i think of him as nothing more than selfish and immature.
but i did think that bella led him on. she should have stayed away from him in eclipse. it could have saved all three of them (bella, jacob, edward) lots of heartache.
    i got your back kassie!

  16. fally wally says:

TEAM EDWARD ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!! I really don’t like Jacob at all and don’t really see the qualities that my guys friends have. I just don’t like him (PLEASE BE CHEERING RIGHT NOW KASSIE) So sorry team jacob pople, but he’s just a big gross, sweaty, obnoxious beast. and don’t say ” ohhh, I like beasts” okay. NOW PLEASE DONT HUNT ME DOWN FOR SAYING ALL THAT STUFF
    LOVE YOU GUYS LOL

  17. Jena says:

Once again, love the show ladies! Kassie, I do have to say that I love that you have to podcast from your closet. I talk on the phone in mine!

I think the best friend quality about Jacob is the fact that he TRULY cares about Charlie and Bella. I say Charlie first, because Jacob watched Charlie and Billy’s relationship grow all those years when Bella was in AZ. So, I’m sure Jacob had an insiders scoop as to all of Charlie’s pain over Bella’s emotional state when Edward left. Second, I do not know many current teenage guys out there, but how many would REALLY invest the time and energy into a girl who is sullen, sulky, constantly holding herself together, rarely talking, etc.? I do believe that Jacob saved Bella’s life.

I do not think that Bella led him on intentionally. Yes, she flirted with him in Twilight to get the information she wanted. But honestly ladies, when have we not at least tried to use flirting to get what we want. In New Moon, she repeatedly states that she can’t love anyone but Edward, it’s Jacob’s choice not to listen. Near the end Bella does debates with herself as to whether or not she wants Jacob as a boyfriend, knowing it would be an easy role to fit into. This is where I believe that Bella’s sanity is finally saved, she is no longer looking for reckless excuses, but is looking forward to a possible future. Then Alice shows up and the rest is written history.

  18. brynne says:

I’m emo. I hate life. i hate twilight. dont talk to me!!!!!!
ur ugly! im ugly! we’re all ugly!!!

  19. quietneed says:

I really did not care for New Moon. I didn’t think that the Edward or Bella characters were true to the personalties established in Twilight.

At first, I thought that Jacob seemed like a sweet, supportive friend. However, the relationship, and the Jacob character, had no spark after he started morphing into a wolf. Of course, I imagine that would’ve given him a LOT to deal with and made him a little grumpy. It just wasn’t interesting.

I skipped right to the end where Alice came back. Until Edward came back into the picture, New Moon was a dull read.

Jacob’s best friend quality is that sometimes he is a wolf and he can’t talk, criticize the Cullens or otherwise annoy me. That is when I like him the best.

  20. Team Switzerland says:

Hey Kallie and Kassie.. ( : You two are so funny, and I love to listen to you..
    Okay – to the point.
Jacob is ALWAYS happy, uhm.. yes.. Uhm.. No.. He is not.. BUT, he’s not like Leah (Eclipse) who’s grumpy all the time, but he is very kind and tries to at least smile, even though he has no reason for doing it.. 😀 Okay I can still see that I’m reading Breaking Dawn, right now. ‘Couse I’m thinking of Jacob as grumpy. I have to think New moon..*new moon-new moon-new moon*
Right.. I think I got it now..
OKay. So.. Jacob is a nice guy… He’s helping and comforting and smiling when Bella needs it the most. Even though he has feelings for her, he’s trying to be just the friend she needs and wants.. Which is not always very easy.. And Jacob is always there for her..! He always stick to his promises, or, he tries at least, which have to be good enough. Shortly told; he is a good friend.

I think Bella leaded him, without knowing it herself. They acted like a couple, and she acted, sometimes like she wanted it to be something more, than just friendship. But I do understand her: It’s so hard to be without real friends, and when she meets Jacob again after, I suppose 6 months, and she realizes that he is the best friend she can ever get, it’s hard not to get “feelings” for him. Not “love-feelings” but strong-strong-strong bonds that keep them together.
Sometimes I wish that Edward never came back.. Because Bella and Jacob almost kissed (!!!) in the kitchen before Edward called, and they were interrupted, it had been so much easier… I suppose Bella could live a good life with Jacob. But maybe not truly love him as much as she had loved Edward, but love him enough to marry him and live her life with him.. I am Team Edward, BUT (!!) in that point in New Moon I got a little annoyed with Edward.. If he left her, and made her ruin herself completely just to come back 5 months later, what’s the point leaving in the first place..!
(Soo, that was just some of my desperation who came out.. Sorry..)
So Kallie and Kassie, I love your podcast.. I guess I’ve said so already but you two are just so great that you deserve to hear it again and again and again..
Keep the good work up.. I’m looking forward to the next podcast.. 😀

  21. Muna says:

In my opinion, Jacob’s ability to care for people without becoming overbearing (like Edward) is his most likable quality, along with this is Jacob also is a reliable guy, a guy rooted in reality making him down to earth and someone you can find in life. His character doesn’t make him an impossible standard like the Mr. Darcy’s and Edwards of the world.

I think Bella led him on, but I think she was too hurt by Edward to even notice she was leading him on. I also think that because Bella wasn’t really able to tell how much Jacob adored her until a little before they go to the movies with Mike she continued to act the way she had been acting with Jacob, where she was walking pretty on the line that divides friendship and romance. There relationship with one another (Bella&Jacob) only helps to reiterate point of Jacob being in the series, which was for her to understand her emotions better and fortify her feelings for Edward. Because with her doubt she was able to create an extended metaphor about her relationship with both Edward and Jacob, showing how her and Edward’s love has the ability to transcend her doubts.

    Hope that made sense.
    🙂

  22. ChloeKay says:

Okay, so as far as jacob goes im not much of a fan. But he does have good moments. I can see him being my best friend but i would never ever consider him to be anything more. I think bella’s decision on this was the best one. One of the things i like about jacob that edward dosnt have is he dosnt blow everything out of proportion. in edwards defence, he loves her so much he just dosnt want her to get hurt. Which is a quality i like in a man. Also jacob is very loyal. He sticks to who ever hes with at that point.
Anyway I LOVE THE PODCAST! Keep us the good work!

  23. Carrie says:

I like Jacob (but I’m team edward), and I think he really is a good friend to bella. Jacob reminds Bella that the world does not revolve around her (she’s self centered sometimes) and she needs to be her own person. Bella really irritates me sometimes, with her being soooo reliant on Edward and the whole “I’ll die without you” thing. I get it, but come on. Jacob reminds Bella that she really shouldn’t feel like she needs permission to see him (in New Moon). Then in eclipse, he tells her that he wouldn’t have stayed in the tent with her like Edward did, because its stupid and is only making the situation worse. This is why Jacob is such a great friend.

    Love the podcast!
    -Carrie

  24. Meggie (again) says:

Also I have some insight on the second half of the question!
It’s kind of creepy how similar the situation I am in is to Bella’s situation. I have this boyfriend and we are totally steady so it’s all good. But I also have this guy friend that I’ve known since like we were born. I suspect my guy friend has a crush on my (his sis told me he didi) and he always likes holding hands when we hang out. It doesn’t bug me so I don’t stop him, he knows I have a bf. So am I leading my friend boy on? If so Bella is too…

  25. jacob lover says:

Yes yes yes cedar i totall think like u!(thats pobly y wer bff)

  26. Lana Langston says:

You hear this lots of time but I love ur podcast!!! So funny!!! And you girls rock!! Okay i have to be honest Jake is a JERK! I HATE Jacob in New Moon and Eclipse only though he was alright in Breaking Dawn, though he still isn’t my fave character in the series. I haven’t read New Moon since October and refuse to read or re-read it because i hate the middles section with Jake is so long and annoying i kept flipping through for when the Cullens especially Edward or Alice came back. I only like the beginning and end parts of New Moon. Jake is a a wonderful, supportive friend for Bella when she becomes depressed. He is a good listener and helped Bella by keeping her distracted with fun outdoor activities preventing her from moping and there for her in her time of need. Despite Jake being a good friend he had an hidden motives for being there in her time of need besides being her closest friend he wanted to be the one that bella realizes she’s destined to be with who will give her a better future than Edward. Bella kind of was leading him on but Jake was taking advantage of her at her most vulnerable state which is wrong! Bella never said or did anything to stop Jake from taking advantage of her since she was mopping around brokenhearted with Edward leaving her.

  27. Lana Langston says:

O and i forgot to add I was still TEAM EDWARD while i read the whole series! I’m also Team Seth, Carlisle, and Emmett!

  28. laCullensCantante says:

my ‘favorite’ thing about jacob is his complete immaturity i mean i know so many guys like that its just natural for me to like that about him because all the at my school are just awesomely immature!!!

as for bella of course shes not leading him on; she just spends every minute she can with him, tells him she needs him, keeps them touching constantly even in innocent ways, not to mention the fact that she feels so much guilt shes willing to let him believe that they could be more later therefore shes obviously not leading him on

kassie totally with you on this one i cant stand jacob

  29. Shelby Whitlock says:

Jacob’s best quality (notice not “redeeming” quality, that would be saying he has more faults then good things) is his loyalty and honesty. Yes, he can be blunt, but don’t we all need someone like that? Someone who will actually tell you the truth when you ask if you look fat in this or whatever, and when they compliment you, you know it is for real. I sure could use me a Jacob. lol! Jacob is also loyal, he was always there as Bella’s “shoulder to cry on” and always comforted Bella when she moped around about Edward, when Jacob was obviously better for her and right in front of her face.

I think that when Bella and Jake met, she was totally leading him on (duh), but later I think he understood that she didn’t love him the way he loved her. I don’t think he knows she thinks of his as a brother at this point though, but he knows she loves him ina far different way than she loves Edward. Jacob isn’t stupid, but he definitley tries to play stupid sometimes to get Bella feeling sympathetic to his cause. After all, the girl he loves is moping around about her ex who dumped her, and he’s picking up the pieces, and she still doesn’t see that. Put yourself in his shoes and everything he does makes a lot more sense (even making her kiss him later). I do think everything he does is fair though, Edward has such an advantage in the “battle for Bella” that Jacob needs to take every chance he can in order to at least finish within a mile of Edward (new satying I know, I made it up just now).

Hope you read my answer! Love you guys!

-Shelby Whitlock (Jacob is second best, after Jasper lol)

  30. wendy08 says:

    Good question.
To let you the truth guys im not a Big Fan of Jacob but i would love to see him happy.I think the best quality that Jacob has is that hes always loyal to Bella and to whom ever no matter what but he did always had his moments when he opened his big mouth to Charlie.Everyone spills who doesnt right. And hes other quality is that hes always there for you no matter what it is guy problems or things.Hes there to help you out.in the good or bad.i would love that in a best friend.who wouldnt!!!lol
    And now Bella
well i think that Bella did lead him without noticin what she was doin because like everyone knows she not an expert on guys but she didnt meant to do that.but she did tell him dat she loved edward and she loved him to but no da way he wanted so its he fault that he got hurt.so thats wat i think

    Love your podcast!!

    -Wendy M.

  31. Michelle Patrick says:

Well unfortunately for me, I really couldn’t get into Jacob. All girls know that they are most attracted to the bad boy. Jacob was the nice guy. The solid guy. Almost too predictable, too desperate and needy. It’s great to be wanted and to be persued. However, when a guy is soo desperate he becomes less manly plain and simple. That’s what it was about Jacob. I literally skipped over and through a ton of New Moon. I just couldn’t read it. I love Taylor Lautner. He is a cute, guy who seems to have a great head on his shoulders and is solid. His character however, really turns me off as a woman.
Bella did totally lead him on. I think many girls in her position would. I imagine how deeply, deeply sad and despondent she was. A loyal, guy who is always there for you completely fills the gap when the heart is broken! You can’t blame Bella for this. She was brokenhearted.

  32. Dilly says:

    Hey, LOVE the podcast.
I don’t really like Jacob that much. He’s cool and all but i don’t really like is completely care free nature. At the begining i really hated him but then reading New Moon the second time I began to think that he’s not that bad and he is just trying to make Bella happy. I didn’t really like him in Eclipse and i really didn’t like the scene in the tent. He was a jerk. lol

Yes! I think all through Eclipse I kept thinking that Bella was leading him on and that wasn’t fair to him. Most people knew that Bella was going to pick Edward eventually and Jacob was just there to fill in her spare time. Haha. I agree with Muna, and i don’t think Bella realized she was leading him on. She just wanted some company and comfort to keep her mind off Edward.

    TEAM EDWARD ALL THE WAY!!

  33. Kiwi says:

    Hi Ladies

I love Jacob, without him the series would be all a bit blah, we all understand that Bella loves Edward but it is nice to see that maybe he is not her only soul mate. I love the fact that Jacob is a real friend, and he is funny, i love his little quips at Rosalie and his chapter titles.

Did Bella lead him on? I’m not sure because if Edward didn’t come back (see my new supporter speculation) I truly believe Jacob and Bella would be together. She did also admit at the end of Eclipse that she did love him. If she did I don’t think she did it deliberately.

  34. Sylvie says:

The thing that impresses me about Jacob is that, unlike Edward, he won’t sugar coat anything. He will tell Bella exactly as it is and nothing less, even if it has the potential to scare her or hurt her. I think this is what should be expected from a true friend, complete honesty. That plus he is all about having fun, never stressed out. I always hoped Jake would stay a part of Bella’s life… but not as more than friends. Go Team Edward!!

I don’t think she led him on. I truly think she needs his friendship just as she needs Edward’s love. It’s not her fault if Jake decided to expect more than she could give. She has always told him that she didn’t see him in that way, even if at one point she considered it.

    Congratulations on a great podcast…

  35. Beck says:

I think Bella was using Jacob in the beginning. I think she needed a “rock” to hold on to, and Jacob was all too willing. Then when he turned werewolf, and seemed to turn his back on her, she needed him all the more because it made the feelings of rejection more poignant for her. Like a drug, she kept going back for more, because even though he seemed rejecting, he was still there.
On the other hand, I think Jacob is a very loyal very good sort of guy. He not only feels loyalty to those who he cares about, but a huge loyalty to his pack, even the ones he doesn’t like. He’s a typical teenage boy in many ways (chauvinistic, all-eyes-on-me, reckless, etc), but he also is wise beyond his years at times. To me, he’s nothing compared to Edward, but taking Edward out of the picture, he is a great guy.

  36. Megan Q. says:

One of my favorite things about Jacob was his acceptance of Bella. He could have been like her friends from school and gotten annoyed at the fact that she seemed to have “gone crazy”, but he didn’t. He treated her normally, helped her to find her way back. He was good for her, a loyal friend that she needed during that difficult time.

As to whether Bella was leading him on or not, I don’t know. She made it clear to him that she was broken and could only offer him her friendship. Bella tends to be like Edward, taking the responsibility of the world on her shoulders, and since she tends to be focused on the feelings of others, I could see her blaming herself for “leading” Jacob on. She doesn’t like to hurt anyone, even if what happened wasn’t her fault, and so her taking responsibility for it falls true to her character.

I love your podcast and this question of the week, because I have a guy friend who has very similar friend qualitied t Jacob. One of Jacobs best qualities was is how he can make Bella happy and be happy, funny, and go-lucky. My guy friend also used his humor to lift me out of a semi-depression, and I’m forever gratful. He did it by just being funny and supporting me, which is exactly like Jacob. For Bella, Jacob s sense of humor and uplifting actions were just what he needed, so to me these are definatley his best frined qualities.

  38. Bee says:

    Good question!
I think that Jacob can make Bella happy, after everything that she’s been through (although I think Bella is a major whiner and needs to stop with the whole “my life sucks” thing. It’s boring and annoying to read. But that’s another story). I mean, if you can find a friend like that, you’re pretty lucky.
I love the podcast. Thanks so much for doing it.
    Love you guys,

    Bee

hey Kassie and Kallie! you guys HAVE to talk about the Mortal Instruments series, i LOVED them! and a Twilighter’s Pandora suggestion is Hey Monday. onto the question of the week…

i think Jacob is awesome because he accepts Bella the way she is. he knows that at one time she was a happy sunny person, and yet he still accepts her as a kind of boring mopey person. i know that having a mopey best friend would annoy me. so i think it’s great how Jake can put up with annoying zombie Bella. and as for if Bella was leading him on…yes. i’m with Kassie! she never made it perfectly clear that she would not love him like he loved her. she did make a couple of weak efforts, but nothing that would completely deter Jacob and make it clear that she didn’t want him.

so, yeah, that’s it. lovin’ the podcast!

Hey Kallie and Kassie! Love the podcast. This is my first time writing in so YAY FOR ME! 😀

Gotta say, not a Jacob fan in the slightest. While reading “New Moon” and “Eclipse”, I found him cocky, arrogant and immature and unlike some who said that “Breaking Dawn” changed their view of Jacob, I have to say it did nothing. The funny thing is that in my life, I have a best friend who acts exactly like Jacob. ????????? figure that one out. LOL
I guess that I would say that Jacob’s best quality is his loyalty, whether or not always desired. Although Bella loved Edward and turned into the walking dead when he left, he still put up with her because he knew how much she needed someone whether she knew it or not. I did think it was wrong that Bella “toyed with his feelings”. All she wanted was a friend but she knew that he wanted her to be something more. So, I don’t understand her reasoning behind it. Although I HATE Jacob, I still think that it was Bella’s fault for making Jake fall in love with her. What was once friendship got turned into something more due to Bella’s stupidity.

Hi ladies, love the podcast! Don’t be afraid to let it go on and on, because I could listen to you guys for hours!

So my favorite friend quality about Jacob is his optimism and cheeriness. I am a really optimistic person, but I have my bad days. When I was feeling sad, I would love how cheerful Jacob was and he would help me get over my bad day.

Also, I don’t think Bella was leading Jacob on. She continually told him that they were nothing more than friends and that no matter what, she would love Edward. It’s not her fault if he was persistent enough to misinterpret her actions.

  42. Stephanie says:

Yea i dont really like jacob im soooooo team edward but the best quality with jacob would have to be how he replaced edward for her safety in a way and that he also was comforting to her but i still hate him

    TEAM EDWARD

  43. Jen D says:

Bella was soo not leading Jacob on. In New Moon they reference areas where Jacob put his arm around Bella and she has thought on it about how it feels good, but weird at the same time!! And Jacob just starts holding Bella’s hand…like Hello!!! She didn’t really do anything to provoke that kinda behavior from him. He was just lovin him some Bella and assuming that she was gonna up and forget her true love!! **Team Cullen** But as a friend, Jacob is pro!! He is there when Bella needs a shoulder to cry on…or an extreme source of heat!! If Jacob were my friend I would best like his never-ending resillience…I mean he is in love with a girl who is not in that type of love with him and he still does not give up….he still thinks he can get lucky until he imprints on Renesmee…..I mean wow…talk about loyalty!! Love the show!!

  44. Sarah says:

My favorite quality about Jacob was his happiness. He was always happy and he was good to Bella, that is before he became a werewolf. I think Jacob was a truly good person until he became bitter with Bella after he became a werewolf. Though I can understand where his bitterness came from, it still bugged me that he became so mean. Even though I am still (and always will be) on TEAM EDWARD I am glad that he became a source of happiness for Bella when Edward left. I am reading New Moon again and I might begin to like Jacob a little bit.
As for Bella, I do think that she was leading him on, but not in a bad way. She told him several times that she couldn’t and would never date and that she didn’t feel that way about him. He should have learned that there wasn’t a possibility of them being together and that he should stop trying to win her over and just be happy being with her.

    GO TEAM EDWARD!!! 🙂

hey kassie and kallie! love the podcast, i always look forward to listening to you guys!
kassie, i know you just hate the whole bella and jacob relationship with a passion lol and don’t get me wrong i’m team edward all the way! however, i looooove jacob! he’s just so warm (no pun intended) and he’s a great friend. he has such a great personality: he’s funny, he’s caring, and he’s the kind of friend who asks you how you’re doing and will actually listen to the answer. he really cares about bella. even though i was dying for edward to come back while i was reading new moon, i’ll have to admit, their friendship was like a breath of fresh air because after edward leaves you think that there’s no hope for bella to even breath again. i love how she thought of him as her personal sun! so sweet! but i do think they wouldn’t be good together. they’re great friends for each other, but nothing more. bella is really mature for her age and jacob can be a little irresponsible and childish. by the way i should mention i LOVE taylor as jacob!
as for bella leading him on…i don’t really think she meant to lead him on because she really needed him. he was all she had for those few months that edward was gone and that’s clearly why she all of a sudden started spending more time with jacob. any boy would misinterpret a close friendship like that. but, she did tell him over and over that she loved edward and she could never love anyone more. i do think that bella realizing she was actually in love with jacob as well was unavoidable. he was there for her in the darkest point in her life and she couldn’t help but love him for being there to pick up the pieces. anyway, keep up the great podcast =] you guys are adorable

  46. Nicole The Great says:

    okay,
i think edward and bella are just perfect for each other (i want you to know i have not read the books but have lissened to them on cd (just the 1st one i have them all just havesnt lisned to them) cuz i have attention deficite and would never be able to read tht many pages) but i think jacob is a noble and good friend to lie back on. but the passion between bella and jacob is none they have no passion and intensity about there relationship. the extream intesity about bella and edward is what makes there love for each other addicting and interesting. edward has so much passion toward bella thats its unbeliveable. so team edward all the way!!!! Nikki

  47. April says:

I think that what I like most about Jacob is his loyalty to Bella. I am completely team Edward but I do feel bad for him sometimes because Jacob doesn’t once desert her. And the one time that it seems like he doesn’t want to be her friend anymore he goes to her room that night and tells her he’s sorry and tries to explain why he said what he said.
I think at first Bella was leading him on. Her only intention was for him to help her with the motorcycle and finding ways to hear Edward. But then after she spends time with him she realizes that she actually does enjoy being around him. However she always knows that she doesn’t want to be anything more than friends and when it becomes clear that Jacob is interested in more than friendship she doesn’t do alot to make sure he knows she doesn’t feel the same.
    And I looove the podcasts!!!

  48. Elise♥♥♥ says:

I like Jacob because he shoved the fact that Edward was so wrong when he left in Edward’s face at the school. I hate to say it, but Edward deserved to feel bad about leaving Bella. Also, he was always there for Bella. When she needed him, he was there to be her friend, even though he knew she didn’t love him and he did. It took him a while to get used to that, but he got over it eventually, which is all you can ask of a friend.

I don’t think Bella was ever leading him on intentionally. If when she punched him in the jaw for kissing her wasn’t a strong enough message, she also made it clear she loved Edward. I think any ‘leading on’ was casued by Jacob’s imagination.

    Luuuuuuv the show

  49. Avery says:

While some of us *cough cough, Kassie* don’t necessarily love the Bella and Jacob relationship, you can’t deny he is a good person. If Edward was entirely out of the picture, I think we would all be able to see how kind Jacob is. I would love to have a friend like Jacob because:
    -he is fun and adventurous
-he is doggedly loyal (pun intended 🙂
    -he is caring
    -he is sunny
    -he loves Bella

I’m Team Edward, but am also a Jacob fan. Thanks, love you guys! You should definitely read this on the show.

  50. Jackie says:

I am an edward fan all the way, but you cant deny the impact jacob really has on bella.
jacob is her only escape from the heaviness of her world. the only way she can feel a little bit better about her life.
he’s so far from the cullens, she can be comforted by something that doesnt remind her of edward at all.
im glad she had someone who comforted her and made her feel like she wasnt alone.
