Carter Burwell Returning to Twilight Saga to Score “Breaking Dawn”

According to Indiewire, Carter Burwell is set to compose the score for Breaking Dawn

Coen Brothers and Spike Jonze regular collaborator Carter Burwell is set to return to the ‘Twilight’ since working on the first film to perform scoring duties for the final installment of the series, the two parter ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn.’

There’s been no official confirmation from Summit, but it definitely makes sense seeing as, we reported a few weeks back, that Burwell has worked with Bill Condon in the past. (Side note: In that same article, I mentioned how I’d love to have Dario Marianelli compose the score for Breaking Dawn and funny enough, the Indiewire article states that he’s scoring the upcoming adaptation of Jane Eyre! Not too shabby! ) Also, earlier this week I’d been browsing around various composers’ IMDB pages, and noticed that Carter Burwell had a suspiciously clean slate for 2011, so methinks that his return to Twilight is indeed going to happen.  Now we wait for the official word.

What do y’all think?  Are you happy that Burwell might be returning?  Or are you like me where Twilight maybe isn’t your favorite score but you don’t want to dwell too much on it and are hoping to deal with the fact that Alexandre Desplat isn’t returning because he’s in fact very busy this year?  (Was that a run-on sentence? By golly, it probably is. hehe) (Another side note: Yes, I’ve made my opinion on the matter quite known. Desplat’s score just broke my heart when I first heard it and during the subsequent times I listened to it.  Have I mentioned before that New Moon is my favorite of the films? 😉 Oh, I have?  Well, it needs repeating! haha )

Sorry to burst your bubble…..New Moon and the score was my least favorite…..I’m very excited for Carter Burwell’s return….I still listen to both the soundtrack daily and the score often over all others. I believe I’m not alone.

  3. Elvira says:

Honestly I think we need someone fresh.

See, I like that idea too! I don’t want to go into this knowing what to expect from a score–which I guess negates my sentiments above about having Alexandre Desplat return :D–I want to be shocked, amazed, astounded and caught off guard! Is that asking too much? LOL

    • Karli says:

Agreed. Someone fresh would be preferable. Burwell’s score was my least favorite. Loved the New Moon score.

  4. Katie in Ft. Worth says:

Hmm, not real excited by this. The New Moon score was the most beautiful and haunting melody. Carter Burwell’s was kinda weird with all the unusual instruments, but maybe it will be better the second time around. The Eclipse soundtrack was pretty, but I kept expecting to see the Fellowship show up on the Cullens’ doorstep.

    • Stefanie says:

On the Eclipse soundtrack: LOL Me too! Maybe it’s too engrained into my subconscious but there were so many moments in the Eclipse score that were too close for comfort to the LoTR ones! (I do love the “I’m All Yours” blend at the end of Eclipse though 🙂 ).

  5. Natasha says:

well i loved the twilight score i believe that the strange instruments kind of set the tone for the strange vampires people say that the first twilight is the worst of all the movies but i disagree i love it still to this day i watch it whenever i can i do love new moon and eclipse but the first twilight was strange and exciting in a way none of the others carry the same elements that the first one did…… but i also agree that the score for new moon was my second favorite it was lonesome and reflected the emotions of bella so well… so on that note i expect nothing but the best to be chosen as the score for the final installments im excited to say the least
