Meghan: What we’ll do is just start here, you’ll do one question and keep going around…

Letters to Twilight: No pressure!

(Laughing)

Meghan: So alright, go for it!

Stephenie: Wait! Wait, wait, wait! Do you all have your tape recorders on?

All: (Nodding and saying yes!)

Stephenie: First question, because we are going to deal with this right now, is Midnight Sun! Right? So we don’t have to…

All: (Lot’s of blabbering…)

Stephenie: I know that’s what everyone cares about.  I also know that the right answer would be for me to say “Oh yah, it’s done! And it’ll be out next month!”  But that’s not true.  It’s also not true that I’ve got a ton of work done on it, and that’s what I’m working on.  What’s true is that I’m really burned out on vampires.  And, I don’t want to write it badly.  So I want to wait until I’m excited about the material again, and I’m excited about Edward, and that it’s something that’s motivating.  You know, when a story is keeping me up at night, and I’m waking up at 4 am in the morning and thinking ‘Yes! That is what is what should happen in this moment!’  Then that is when I can write with happiness! So, right now it feels like homework… it really does.  And when things feel like homework they go very, very slowly for me.  So it’s still not a “It’s not gonna happen!” I want to do it when I can do it right.  You know, I have my share of human stubbornness, and I have to tell you, it’s a little bit hard when people are like “This is the only thing you can do, and it’s the only thing we care about!”  And, you’re kind of like a three year old, you want to be like “I’m gonna do what I wanna do!” Yah.  “You’re not the boss of me!”  So my mom has backed off a little bit.  Actually, I was at The Fray concert, and I was hanging out with the guys backstage.  They’re really cool, and I was talking to Isaac about it.  He was like, “I really want you to do that!”  And I was like “Oh my gosh!  Come on!”  You know I can’t get away from it anywhere.  And, we talked about stubbornness and reverse psychology.  I have this great thing he signed for me, it says “To Stephenie, Don’t work on that stupid book! Nobody wants it anyway!”  I have it by my computer.  That really is the right direction to go with me, because I’m like “Huh!  Maybe I should do it!  I’ll show you!”   Psychology!  Anyway, that’s Midnight Sun!  so, that should disappoint everyone!

Twilight Series Theories: I don’t think so!

Stephenie: Ok!  so now we’re done!  (Laughing) So, I’ll see you guys later!

All: (Laughing)

Letters to Twilight: That’s totally understandable.

Twilight Series Theories: I would rather wait.

Twilight Source: We’re not reading it until it’s done.

Twilight Series Theories: I haven’t read it!

Letters to Twilight: You haven’t!

Stephenie: The people I worry about are the haters. You know, that like to talk about what a horrible writer I am and all that stuff.  When I do write it they’re going to say “Oh, this was worse than the first half because now she did it badly!”  No matter what I do it’s going to be that way.  There’s a mental block there.  You know what people are going to say, so I have wait until it’s just me and the book again.  Then I can feel excited about it!  You know, sometimes I’ll sit and think about the car chase, that we don’t get to see from Bella’s perspective.  I have that one completely mapped out in my head.  That one wouldn’t be hard to get down. Stuff like that, it gets exciting. Cars.  Ya know!  The first car he steals I have picked out, and then the second one.  It get’s messy!  It’s gonna be great!  You have to get excited about things!  But, that’s Midnight Sun!

  1. Carolyn says:

I read the part she published on her website and loved the concept!! I want her to finish it, but I totally agree with her that she should do it in her own time, when she’s ready. I can wait. It will be worth the wait, I’m positive.

    • bonnie says:

No matter how long it takes her to finish Midnight Sun, I’ll probably read the first half about 50+ more times. And I know I’ll not be disappointed.

    • anu says:

I just loved the Twilight saga. i’m really eager to read the later half of midnight sun. but of course you should take your time. may be you should continue the Twilight series with Renesmee and Jake

    • Dan says:

I totally agree, she should do it when she gets the inspiration to do it right, Edward’s point of view is amazing i like it more than bella’s, you can feel the pain that is inside of him, I can wait stephanie as long as you finish it!

    • mel says:

Yeah, I do understand where she is coming from, and yes it is her choice of when to right it… But its also my choice if I am going to pine for it, and that I am DONE doing.. I am sick of being on pins and needles LOVING twlight, everything Twilight, Twilight Twilight… Maybe someday she will put it out when I’m like 40 and I’ll be like OH Kool…

      • shannon says:

u need to get more patients. calm down, breath. it won’t come out when you’re 40. give her some time. u don’t want it to be crappy. so, suck it up! 🙁

      • liumey says:

I love the twightlight saga the book version and i especially like the way the her books comes to life on screen. I can wait for her to finish midnight sun but if you like vampires you can also read charlaine harris (sookie stackhouse novels) they are very good. As for her finishing the books it should be up to her and i can bet you that even if she takes a long time to write them curiousity will make you read it.

  2. fortheelove says:

I agree with Stephenie. How she wants to be driven by excitement, not the feeling of homework. It’s like us…there’s a completely different feeling between being required to read a text book and the excitement of reading the Saga.

    • Jess C. says:

I totaly agree with you. I love reading but when i had to read a book for class I never wanted to read it cause it was forced.

    • shannon says:

that’s soooooo true! i know when i write if my sister tackles me and i have to let her see it, it isn’t fun anymore because she’s not surprised. 🙁

  3. Coralys says:

I think she never going to write it. Actually, i think that the saga is so close to finish ( the movie) she should’nt write Midnight sun anyway. I’m not interest to read the same again. Maybe something new with edward sounds better. But i am sure she going to do another saga with jacob, nessie and leah

    • drghada says:

you would be right if it was just repetition of twilight with a different narrator.but it is not like that , it was very interesting that I was totally absorbed and I couldn’t leave it till I finished it .. it was like a different life that you see from different perspective .

    • shannon says:

      r u crazy?!!!!!!!! when there wasn’t anymore to read, i cried! 🙁

  4. Ashley says:

I agree with Carolyn and forthelove…I don’t Stephenie to write it until she is ready. However, I have read the portion that she posted on her website and loved it. It gives such a great perspective on Edward and his thoughts on Bella. I think when reading Twilight, you are so focused on Bella and her thoughts about Edward that you don’t think much as to what his thoughts are about Bella…the fact that he is completely intrigued by her because she is the one mind that he cannot read but the one mind that he most desperately wants to.

So yes, I hope that she does eventually finish Midnight Sun, but not until she is completely ready.

  5. kijo921 says:

Yes, we all neglect or purposefully procrastinate when it comes to “having” to do something versus wanting to. I’m willing to wait for Midnight Sun as well. I’ve made myself NOT read Eclipse b/c of the movie. I don’t WANT to sit there and compare/contrast them. That takes away from the uniqueness of the director’s POV. That may be what Stephenie is feeling right now, too. She said she was burned out, so to speak, on vamps so she’s allowing others to do her bidding while she observes/oversees what’s she’s done in print. Sometimes I think she’s being “a little girl” about it and when she can outright admit it… that just makes me like her more. I say, do something COMPLETELY different, Steph! Run with it!

  7. naya says:

I agree with her to finish it when she’s ready but I really hope that time comes quickly. I really want to hear the rest of Edwards thoughts. I’m also wondering if she’s going to do that with all of them and not just this one. If she does end up writing about all the other books in Edwards perspective I would totally go out and by them. I want to hear his thoughts for once instead of Bella’s no offence its just that I really want to know

    • Dan says:

I totally support your opinion i would love if she writes all the saga based on edward’s perspective and I will totally buy them all.!!

      • laur says:

I totally agree! If she wants to write them all in Edward’s POV then I would go out and buy them all in one night, and then read them over and over. If Stephenie wants to wait, then I’m behind her decision. I know what she means about not being able to continue. I write on Fan Fiction, and if passion for the story/characters isn’t there, then it’s going to be bad, and no one will want to read it, and you won’t be happy with your work. So I completly understand.

    • Mary loves Rob+Krist says:

i dont think it’ll happen 4 da other books b/c she gives specific reasons why she couldnt write all da other books in Edwards perspective b/c there are certian things that bella goes thorough especially in new moon and breaking dawn that would be difficult 2 write in edwards POV b/c she would be feeling wat he was feelin at the time and she wouldn’t have been able 2 handle that b/c it would have been 2 painfull 4 her 2 write. she says in an interview that she cried all thorough writing new moon b/c every emotion that bella was feeling, she was also feeling.

  8. SMeyerFan says:

I have read the four books of the Twilight Saga, and all books related to the Saga… Including “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner”. I loved the books! All of them. But, after reading Bree Tanner (which I also loved) it made me think about the Saga differently. I think it would be great if books were written about each character! Carlisle, Esme, etc… Maybe titled “Before Forks” lol Just an idea 🙂 I know you must be burnt out on the vampire thing, but just think about it?? Or don’t!! LoL As for Midnight Sun, sure it would be a great read, but if it never gets written I’ll still be a huge fan!

  9. WOLFGIRL40 says:

I have read what she has put on her website. If she just leaves it like that I would be happy. Its really cool. Anyway, you rock Stephanie. Don’t let people push you into doing anything you don’t want to do

  10. tish says:

I read the part that she published on her site and im very excited to see it contiuned when stephine feels it is the right time to do so however i have to admit that im more curious to see if she will do all 4 books from edwards pov or atleast the first three and i have become a huge fan of her writting i also read host and will continue to read what she writes so hopefully we see midnight sun finished but you never know maybe there is another dream that will bring an even better saga along

    • shannon says:

i’m not sure if there IS any saga better than the twilight saga, but she;s stephenie meyer, so we’ll find out!!!:)
(i still hunt with vampires, though!)

i love the twilight saga…i haven’t completed a book in years…since i had kids…you know how things go…but when i heard about the movie and saw it…i thought i should read the books because the books give more detail…and its better than watching a movie…though i do enjoy watching the movies and all the character do the very same things i imagined in my head while reading the books…i feel in love with reading again…and i love your writting…i haven’t read midnight sun and i don’t want to until it’s completed…hopefully…and if its not that ok…i wouldn’t want to read anything that shephenie meyer didn’t put her all into…i know she still has alot more stories in there somewhere and can’t wait to read them…i love your work

  15. esme cullen says:

i read the part of midnight sun thats on her website, it blew me away! it was amazing! she has to do it for all twihards everywhere!! Stephenie if you read this please please run it!!! your amazing and the only thing i do at the weekends are read your books. i read them daily and it would be great to read twilight from edwards point of view. you did this kind of thing with the short second life of bree tanner and it was a success. it went straight to number 1 bestselling book. i love your books and really hope you publish the complete copy of midnight sun. it would be a great addition to my twilight shelf!!! you still have a least one more story in you!!

    • Sporkfairy says:

Psh.. i don’t want her to finish that stupid book, i wont read it any way! Psh.. lamesauce! 😉 😛

  18. KSmithGray says:

Stephenie, I’m so not going to read Midnight Sun. It’s totally not the only book I’m looking forward to reading. You should put it off as long as you possible can. Write about unicorns or something…

😉 I love you. Take your time. All good things are worth waiting for.

    • shannon says:

WHAT IS WRONG WHITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i DO want her to take her time, but NOT looking forward to midnight sun?! U NEED TO GET YOUR HEAD CHECKED!!!!!- NOW! 🙁

  19. drghada says:

    dear Stephanie
first : you are an amazing writer and person.
second : I would like to thank you for” midnight sun ” it was like I am not Bella any more I was Edward and all the thoughts and feelings were new and interesting. I read it 3 times still not enough ,then the 4 th time I compared most of it with Bella’s twilight.
please just finish it and ,please try to write the rest of the saga, may be like very short stories of the important events that need to be clarified from Edward’s perspective .I assure you that all the twihard fans who really understand the saga and the characters in it are eager to know and feel more .. take all the time you need but I think it is not the time to close Edward’s drawer yet…please .. thank you for the happiness you gave us, hoping for more.

  20. Melanie says:

I am about to start chapter seven and I am hooked. Edwards point view is amazing. I have read teh Twilight series over and over. She should write this but on her own. Without people bothering her.
    Gotta say you rock Stephenie!

  21. Dani Marie says:

I totally agree with Stephenie and everyone on here! I can imagine that you are burned out on the whole vampire thing. Like you probably hear on a daily basis….Stephenie you are a FANTASTIC writer and I love being able to come into your world. I hope you do at some point continue to write about the Cullens/Jacob. I also hope you have thought about The Saga in Edward’s perspective (i’m sure you have) Just don’t stop writing no matter what you write about! And again thank you for a wonderful escape!!!

  22. Anoniymous says:

She can take as long as she wants , without her anyway we’d never get to read it, so we should be patient and wait for her to finally focus on itnagain , love twilight

  23. JoanneMaria says:

    Later for the Haters!!!

    Steph, we love you <3

  24. please, stephenie! as long as it’s before Dec. 21, 2012!

i’ve read all the books and love them all… i could wait for moonlight sun… i have also read that online… steph take your time it’s really up to you when you are ready… take care…

  26. becca says:

im tired of waiting for midnight sun. im moving on to another writer. as this one is to burned out to write. i have gaven all of my twilight book away. to much life to lead to wait for a rich person sulking.

  27. Sheri says:

I do understand why Ms. Meyers would be burnt out, however I think it’s sad to let what other people choose to do in their life effect you so strongly. Her original reason (or the one I read anyway) was because someone leaked Midnight Sun, this is why she chose to stop writing it. I can understand being burnt out much better than the original reason. Although, I would like to say that it’s sad to disappoint fans because of one person’s idiocy. My favorite part of M.S. is that it doesn’t just let you into Edward’s character, but all of the Cullen family really.

  28. Hannah says:

i understand what she is saying that it would feel like homework. but i realy hope she does something because she is my favorite author, and there’s only so many times you can re read the twilight saga before you know everything. i realy hope she continues midnight sun i have only rewad the first 5 pages and im already addictided. it gives you a much better understanding of alice and edwards powers. and it also lets you know m,ore about jasper, i used to not like him but now i feel sorry for him.

  32. sabreena says:

from what i’ve heard the basic summary of midnight sun is twilight in Edward’s perspective….i find it to be very innovative for this outcome of the saga though i wonder if the book is going to come out soon and if there will be more leads mimicking the following books in a different character’s view? thanks for hearing me out =) Sabreena from Dar-es salaam, Tanzania

  33. Jolene says:

You’re right Stephenie. Don’t finish it. It’s not worth the homework. I can’t write when I feel I have to either.

i read all the books 3 times in my lingo and in english, the translation is good but the english is so much better.
this gave me the prospective that SM’s writing is so good that it cant be translated… think about that.
after reading midnight sun ( what was posted in her website ) i was amazed it was so much better then i thought
but if the feeling is not complete about the continuetion then i will wait till it comes back.
after reading MS it started to give ideas about the others. like in her new bree tanner book, i wonder what happend to fred and if the cullens found him, if he joined them etc.
my point, bringing life to things i didnt even think about shows how talented she (SM) is.
